I suppose they assume you either speak Korean, Vietnamese or you just pick off the pictures. I was not impressed with the menu situation and let me say...the garlic, spices and other seasonings sure pull you in to every spot. I had to eventually go with one and I ended up at Surasand in Colonia Juarez. The staff is very polite and supportive-although they don't know the ingredients or items on the menu themselves. I do very much appreciate the effort and understand being that they (the staff) are not Korean themselves. The place is welcoming, not to noisy and has several private spots. The restrooms are really really nice and a little more roomier than any other this city. They have toilet paper and it's clean! Nice staff, pleasant dinning environment and never a bad idea to try something out of my comfort zone.

Tonight I decided to bring a date. Worst. Idea. Ever. First off, we were ignored when we walked in. Finally someone finally came and seated us. My date had never had Korean BBQ & both of us were excited. Him to try it & me to expose what I thought to be one of my favorite restaurants in CDMX. We decided that I will get the BBQ & he will get the Bi Bim Bop. This way he'll have an opportunity to try 2 different things. My Spanish is t as good as it should be, but I'm still learning. Thankfully my date is fluent. He asked the waiter if the sides are in included with the BBQ & what they are. The waiter literally said he doesn't know. Seriously? You work there! He soon brought out the sides, and we excitedly waited for them to bring the portable grill, just as they've done every time before. What they brought was PRE COOKED beef!! What the actual F??!!? My friend asked why they brought pre cooked meat when their menu clearly shows raw meat. The waitress who brought the food said that we'd have either had to specifically ASK for the grill, or both of us would've had to ordered the BBQ. Nowhere on the menú does it say that. The whole idea of Korean BBQ is to cook it yourself. If I wanted precooked beef I could've gone to any restaurant. It doesn't end there. We asked for only TWO more side dishes. Sweet potato and kimchi. And the waiter MEVER brought them out. We gave up on the side dishes and decided to just leave. We asked for the check and even THAT took forever. And as he took my credit card, for me to pay for something I didn't order, he had the audacity to ask how much of a tip we'd like to leave. Not knowing what he was saying, my friend answered for me. Nothing. Frankly he should be happy we paid at all. Heed my warning and AVOID SURISANG!!!! It has changed for the worse!! Staff couldn't care less about you, your food, OR what you ordered. Again: AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!!!!

Service is always good, an endless supply of Soju and several flavor options. We always do the BBQ at the table which has never disappointed. The side dishes that are included are typical Korean, and never lack flavor. Their red salsa and Kimchi are always wonderful. We typically order another dish or two including the Ramen, which is always good, but the BBQ here is what shines. They also have some very good Ice Cream options for dessert, my favorite is the Corn Ice Cream which is served in a Corn Husk, and the Coconut Ice Cream which is served inside a coconut shell. We love Biwon and will continue to return!

I honestly do not know how they got so many positive reviews. My friends and I got the soup and it tasted awful. I feel like even the instant soup pack is better than what they made. Maybe this place tastes good for the locals because they never had real korean food before but avoid this place at all cost. I tipped 5% at the end and the waiter came back and asked more for tips. Like please ask yourself what did you do that was above and beyond that earned those tips. I rejected to tip more because the food was awful and they never checked on us how the food was.

After a week of…read moredelicious Mexican food we were feeling something a little closer to home and decided to go for Korean. Unfortunately the place was basically empty when we arrived but we are so glad we didn't let that change our minds. The decor inside was definitely a lot of fun and totally instagram-worthy... something along the lines of Alice in Wonderland meets Biggie? Which definitely reminded me of the Ktown vibes found in Los Angeles. As for the food, I'm always pretty skeptical of non-Koreans doing Korean food or Korean food outside Korean-populated areas (it's something about the texture) - but this place came pretty darn close! Of course the menu itself seemed to be a kind of Korean-majority fusion cuisine with broad Asian influences likely designed for the Mexican palate, but for a bunch of New Yorkers it was still pretty comforting to get a hot bowl of (modified?) bimbimbap on a Friday night in the middle of CDMX. The four of us each ordered something different -arroz frito con bulgogi, hamburgesa mexicoreana, duo de pollo frito, and noodles con veduras. The portions are pretty generous and the flavors definitely hit the spot we were craving for. Needless to say we were all extremely satisfied with our meals. BUT... that's not the end of it. We also decided to order from the Sweet Girl Moves dessert menu, which was probably our best decision of the night. This particular friend group isn't the most ~adventurous~ when it comes to different foods but they all loved the dessert, which were all very interesting flavor arrangements but nonetheless delicious and very creatively presented. My friend ordered the popcorn-themed one and almost practically burst into tears of joy. We definitely left the establishment very happy and well-fed and would recommend it to anyone visiting or local in a heart beat!
