Traditional sami food inspired by modern ways of preparing dishes. All ingredients are purchased or hunted in the adjacent area - making it authentic.
For starters, I had the Gampa-suele a dish containing reindeer blood, souvas (reindeer meat), messmör and lingonberries - a task mix of traditional Swedish and Sami food. I also tried the Rimmad fjällöring - which was delicious - if you're into fish - get this one!
For main course I had Gurpi Trollkorv - reindeer meat with vegetables. Many interesting flavours and the sausage had a prevalent smokiness in its character. I also had (yes, I like to eat) Halstat kåtarökt renhjärta - smoked reindeer heart with various vegetables and mountain plants/veggies - even more tasty than the Gurpi - I especially liked the moose meat served on top!
I was going to try the ice cream flavoured by a mountain flower but my stomach was not hungry enough - however it's supposed to be delicious!
All in all, the restaurant is definitely worth a visit for someone wanting to get some finer dining in a Sami setting - I will definitely be back next time I'm visiting the area.
The staff is very friendly - the only negative comment is the warmth - it was next to unbearable so make sure you bring some lighter clothes underneath your warmer gear - no worries, the dress code is informal. read more
