I have been trying for almost 2 weeks to get my mother of 85 an appt...with her family doctor at the Medical Center on Dollard in LaSalle. I strongly believed that she had pneumonia and would most likely need antibiotics. ​ After many attempts of trying to get an appointment with her family doctor.. even stressing the point of importance to see someone we finally decided to go to the Verdun Emergency. I have never had a problem with this hospital...but today's visit was extremely alarming to me. My mother had to have X-rays done and when she did all that and got called about the results..it ended up not being pneumonia. The doctor that saw her had said..no signs of pneumonia...it is viral not bacterial...no antibiotics needed...was told to just get plenty of rest for next couple of days and you should be back to feeling yourself in no time. So..basically it was like a bad flu etc....considering the news..we were somewhat relieved. Rest it was because it was VIRAL AND NOTHING SHOWED. About 3.5 hours later..Dr. from hospital asked if she could come back and basically..as soon as possible...right now. She goes back and had a couple of tests and sure enough...Dr. was right..she needs plenty of rest...because she HAS CANCER!!!!.. We went from....no nothing shows...it's Viral ..to Cancer...How is it possible to have not noticed this when we were there previously thinking it was pneumonia. I have no medical knowledge but when looking at an x-ray ...I am sure I would be able to see a mass in the middle and lower part of chest...We left there with the complete wrong diagnosis., to having Cancer. What is wrong with you people. How many times I wonder has this happened. Extremely shameful...disrespectful.. despicable. If you send a patient for an x-ray and you are not able to read an x-ray then you should not be giving any information to any patient but what they have or may not have because obviously way off key. No one has the time to go through all the things wrong with this hospital. I guessed it was so ancient it was built in the 1940s. I wasn't far off. 1932. And it shows. The patient rooms appear as if the only upgrade was the discovery of electricity. ALL electrical outlets are on the wall between patients on one panel. Not one other outlet in the room. So ALL medical equipment is stuffed in there. All monitors, IV machines and phones (which are completely out of reach of the patient.) Of course no a/c or fans for anyone. If I lived in a country in middle or South America I might expect this, but canada. I don't want to sound elitist but there is so much money going into the healthcare system but not to staff or facilities. So where does all that money go? I had surgery and when I left I was made to walk out carrying my own suitcase. No wheelchair. No offer of one either. I've never heard of this failure before. I got the feeling I could have passed out and the staff would have just stepped over my body The signage is atrocious. I heard multiple people talk about getting lost as I do every time I go there. And the elevators are out of the Twilight Zone. They do not go to every area on every floor. If you take the wrong one you have to backtrack. Not good at all for disabled people. This hospital needs to be torn down and designed by someone not insane or on drugs. Words can't describe how horrific the physical structure of this building is. It would have been cheaper to build a new hospital, tear this one down and rebuild than what they are paying for "redesigning " this one. Plus it would have added new beds to the system. Does no one at the top of the healthcare system have any common sense or are they getting payoffs somehow? read more

Last night I was very sick and had to go to that hospital. I was throwing up all over myself and no one came there to give me a bucket or napkins. The stuff there have no compassion toward the patient. I will never go back again. read more

I guess I'm to use to USA hospitals were when asking a question you get an answer other than "I don't know" Socialized medicine apparently is considered good if that's all you ever have had but it doesn't come close to getting my respect. A call was made to 911 at 1:30 in the afternoon after my friend fell down a stair case and could not stand or move her leg. She was told the ambulance would be there in 3 to 5 hours. The ambulance arrived at 6:45 that evening. When someone is having a heart attack to they just send the funeral home to pick up the body? Once at the hospital she sat in emergency for several hours before being X-rayed and waited another two hours before being told her hip was fractured and she would need surgery. The next day when I called to see how the surgery went I was told she was still in the emergency room. When I asked why they said they were waiting on doctor. So I asked when the surgery was going to be done and again was told sometime, either later today or maybe tomorrow. Not specific enough for me, the patient or any reasonable person. I find it quite comical that hospitals in Canada have signs all over the place asking visitors and patients to be respectful of the staff. It would probably be unnecessary for these signs if the staff was more respectful of the patients and their visitors. Keeping everyone in the dark with vague answers or no answers at all can cause stress to those seeking help and just maybe why the staff isn't respected. I know this review isn't kind and I assure you it isn't meant to be cruel but I hope that is also does not fall in deft ears. Treat people the way you would like to be treated and everyone would be better off. I wish I could say this was the only bad experience my friends here in Canada have had but everyone from Canada I know has there own nightmare experience from waiting 11 hours in an emergency room to waiting 6 to 9 months for an operation they need but need to get in line for! Socialized Medicine just doesn't work well and if you think it does, either you haven't had the need for it's services or you have your head in the sand. I've been coming here for years, wish I could say that they have finally got it together but nope. Waiting for emergency is normal others come first depending on their situation which is fine. What isn't fine is not adding someone to the list so they sit their waiting for nothing for 2 hours. When you're going for blood test get there for 9 am or you'll be waiting a long time. Appointments are usually on time give or take 30 minutes which is what I expect in any normal hospital. The security guards are very polite and helpful as well as the cleaning crew. read more

I was hospitalized at this hospital for 8 days and had had 2 previous ER visits . I was given many follow up appointment. Worst experience ever. The people who work there don't really want to work . When I got home I noticed that the appointments that were given only had dates and time on them no location or doctors name or floor or department. So needless to say I had to call in to find out ex:63200 and spoke with Pheck ( seriously this lady needs to find a new job she was of no help and hung up on me ( telling me she was over worked and had no time for this ). After being left with no help . I came back to the hospital in person to find out what floor my appointment was on and with who. Then I mentioned that I was called to pick up a document at a specific department Day Medicine is the department and I ask if this was is it . I was told by her ( Pheck) that I can figure it out . Such a professional way to answer people . I have made an official complaint on this hospital . We are given instructions to follow by the doctor following us and when you try to do those the people who answer the phone tell you they don't know and hang up on you . Avoid at all cost don't waste your time . After over 2 weeks of dealing with them I have to go to the emergency in a new hospital to start the process again ridiculous. read more

I ended up an emergency and a little worried because of BIll 96 and I don't quite have strong enough French, especially vocabulary, for health care - yet. I'm working on it but still learning. I worked in health care in another province and know the layers of issues health care providers are working with. The staff - every single one - was patient, kind and helpful. Kudos to a great team. In March of 2015 I spent 3 weeks hospitalized there due to a bad infection. When I first arrived at the ER triage took ten minutes before I got a bed in the ER. Next morning I was transferred into the hospital proper. They took real good care of me. And eventually I was well enough to go home. A few weeks later, beginning of May, due to complications due to the medication playing havoc With my liver I was back for a month. Again the staff was great. read more

I have been here a couple of times for scans and a couple tests, but i cannot in good faith recommend this place for Blood work , i came here 2xs for blood work on separate occasions, and both my blood work came back as contaminated ecoli and i got treated both times and never had it either time, that spells danger for me in my opinion , what if it had been something worse i had been treated for ?? So unless they clean up their act pls find a clean reliable place to get your blood work done, other than this issue and well it is a bit of a struggle to understand what they are saying 9/10 times it is a decent enuf place.I guess i am spoiled as i have been used to very modern , up to date hospitals in the U.S. read more

I was in Verdun hospital for 2 days with terrible allergy attack. I want to send great THANK YOU to all the people who helped me. They kept me for night and were so kind to me. I got all the prescriptions I needed, food, care and smiles. I don't put 5 stars as I had to wait for rather long time at several doors of several different doctor's offices - and I was feeling really bad. First visit to Hôpital de Verdun emergency. Fast, efficient & attentive nursing staff. Doctor handling our case was excellent. We left hospital with issue resolved. No communication problems as all staff was bilingual. Clean environment - was impressed by consistent cleaning going on around us ... dirt seen on the floor immediately mopped up. Impressed that food was brought at noon to all waiting patients. read more
