In Tours we stayed at the L'Univers. Our room had been renovated, apparently in the 70s? Our room was spacious and clean but just a little weird. The hotel apparently had received many very famous dignitaries during its heyday and they were all memorialized in a mural in the lobby. But I think it's fair to say that the hotel had passed its prime. And its bar was really bad. We were also put off by the fact that the hotel's parking, which is a block from the hotel, was closed due to a pending giant sidewalk sale and as a result we were forced to park about three blocks away in a municipal parking garage. (As an aside, the garage was the da Vinci Garage and our hotel attendant kept telling us the name of the garage but suffice it to say French people and Americans do not say the name "da Vinci" the same way. We had no idea what we were looking for!) The hotel should have told us about this inconvenience when we booked our rooms. We might have decided to stay somewhere else. I'm not sure what other hotels Tours has to offer, but I'm not sure I would heartily endorse L'Univers. It wasn't bad. It just wasn't commendable. read more
