Now, today, it stands here like it has for hundreds of years. Amazing. You are thrown back to a time when life was so very different. Words and paintings on the walls tell you how they saw the world and them selves. For a while you sit there experiencing the importance of the line of history. Then locking the door and hanging up the key like it always has been done by visitors.

And he, one of the most beloved kings in Thailand, visited Sweden in 1897, invited by The Swedish King. King Chulalongkorn went north and up the river, enchanted by the nature. One hundred years later a royal pavilion was built where the King once paid a visit. It is a fantastic sight to see. No one is to blame for thinking; it must be misplaced. But it's not. In this wilderness it stands deeply rooted like in a meditation. Not far in the background the slow moving river completes the picture and the magic impression. Outside Thailand there is only one royal Thai pavilion. It carries the name; Chulalongkorn Memorial Pavilion. Wonderful!

We stayed just a few minutes away from this wonderful National Park. We entered from the south with…read moreits huge parking lot, which was almost full on that day (but free of charge). There are some good and useful information signs just at the entrance and a handful of (smelly) bathrooms. And pretty much your first and last chance to get rid of your garbage. We followed the well marked Höga Kustenleden trail up to Slåttdalsskrevan, the famous crevice which cuts through the mountain for about 200m. The trail itself ist pretty flat but with some steep stairs / sections once in a while. Some parts you'll walk on wooden panels/boards. But it's nowhere near wheelchair or stroller accessable. Good hiking boots are a must, since it can be wet and damp even on a dry summer day. Some sections of the trail are covered with stones in several sizes, so bring a good balance with. We traveled with our Engllish Bulldog and she made it to Slåttdalsskrevan and back, even had fun doing so (into the Slåttdalsskrevan I went alone though, the climb was to high and steep). The trail mostly leads you through the forest, so there's not much of a view. But the nature is amazing, especially when the forest opens up a bit and the rugged and foggy landscape shows itself. Even though it's a well visited park (free of charge) it never felt crowded. It's just you and the nature. And it's not a too tough hike, but bring some water anyways and clothes to change afterwards. A fantastic park and very much one of the highlights we've visited on our Sweden Road Trip.

Great landscape in a lovely village…read more We made a quick visit to lovely Skeppsmalen. Not much to do in the village, but a very picturesque place. Charming. But the real highlight is down at the shore, just at the foot of the lighthouse. The landscape here is quite amazing, with nice rock formations. Lots of picknick spots and some short trails for a quick walk. There's even a small bay with a bit of a beach, perfect spot to spend an day or a half. The place is not much visited yet, at least not on weekdays. So if you look for an easy accessable but impressive piece of nature, then this is really a good option. Parking is just at the beginning of the village (no cars allowed at the lighthouse). It's a short walk.
