This review is for a private session with Christina who covers urban hip hop. A couple of things to note.. Call in if you're looking to attend class soon, but stick to email if your inquiry isn't urgent. It does take some time for them to get back to you because they have so many people to get back to. I reached out via email because I wanted to take a hip hop class for fun but lack dance experience. The best thing about a private session is that tutors cater their lessons to suit your level and pace. After further consultation about the type of dance style and music I was interested in, they helped me book an appointment. I also wanted to note that I was being rather difficult due to a change in my schedule and went back and forth about attending the class. I initially asked for a refund but ultimately decided to attend and the staff were really understanding about it. A class costs about $100 not including other add-ons (music video editing and filming). If you decide to schedule a private session you should have the following information prepared -location you want the session at (you're responsible for renting the studio space if you choose Manhattan) -dates and time preferences for the session (classes are based on instructor availability which typically means most weekends during the afternoon or evening) -style of dance and music suggestions (instructor ultimately decides on the routine and song but you can tell them what you're looking for) Once you're booked you'll get a confirmation email and payment instructions. Payments must be made at least 2 days in advance before your class. GETTING THERE: You can take the F to Parsons and hop on the Q65 bus if you don't want to take the LIRR. I believe the F, 7, N, and Q can also take you there but expect to do a couple of transfers if you don't live in the area. I'm hours away from the flushing location but I made the trip based on reviews. I'm not confident enough to perform in groups and decided a private session would be a good way to start. I heard how welcoming and friendly the instructors and students are at this place so decided to give it a shot. THE LESSON: I just finished my private lesson with Christina and I feel empowered. We danced to Ariana Grandes God is a Woman which was originally prepared for one of their intermediate classes. Her choreography really had me feelin myself. I have two left feet and at times got really nervous trying to be technically accurate but Christina was so patient with me and gave excellent tips on how to loosen up and enjoy dance. She broke down all the steps clearly, slowly and then we practiced on an off with music. I definitely want to continue practicing and come back for lessons again. Also, as a heads up be sure to ask if you can record the session because they typically only record when you're done with the entire choreography. For those of you who are beginners as well, live close to Manhattan, and want to try group classes she recommends Ness and Fernando (my spelling might be inaccurate) if you're looking to learn upbeat hip hop style dance. They teach on Wednesday and Friday. Overall, this class really helped boost my confidence and it was worth the cost and trip. read more

I LOVE DANCE. And I love this studio. I've taken dance classes here and there, but I've never *committed* to a dance studio like this, until this year. I learned an entire routine from start to finish (taking 1 hr classes for 4 weeks) and there's nothing like that sense of accomplishment & fulfillment you get afterwards. I really enjoyed the "KPop Diet Dance" class too. It's basically a medley of different KPop songs and it's a high energy, lots of moving/jumping, and tons of fun. I would recommend this class if you're checking out the studio for the first time. A few other tips/notes for first timers.... 1. They change their schedule every month, and they post it 1-2 weeks before the month starts. Other than pilates, yoga, and KPop Diet Dance, if the class name has a song name/artist, it means you will learn the entire song from start to finish. Make sure to start at the BEGINNING of the month for those classes or you'll be helplessly lost. 2. The price is right. For the quality of instruction you get I really think it's a bargain. I ended up with the 1 class per week option, which came out to be $70/month or $17.50 per class. The instructors are AMAZING - so friendly, talented and helpful. The pricing model also changes based on how many weeks of classes there are in that month (e.g. for 5 weeks of classes, you'll end up paying more vs 4 weeks of classes, since you get additional classes.) 3. You don't need to reserve classes in advance! I found this to be a huge plus, especially after going through ClassPass and their strict cancellation policies. You simply commit to however many classes you want that month, and you have the freedom to choose which days to come in. Overall, I absolutely LOVE this studio and all the people in it. I've been a member since 2012 and gosh time flies with this awesome community. Note I was very stiff and shy then. I lOVE DANCE has completely made me more open in terms of confidence and trying different styles of dance I never thought I would be into. There are many styles to k-pop and hip-hop, it challenges me to try whenever a new month comes with a new choreo and song. I love the variety I LOVE DANCE provides for everyone. If you're a beginner, definitely give it a try! The teachers are amazing; They will definitely help you if you have any questions. If you're shy, still DO IT. I kid you not, I was so shy then, but making friends and knowing the teachers who are willing to help me and who are SUPER NICE, they made the experience so much more enjoyable and comfortable. My first class at ILD (I Love Dance) was in September (2021), and I have been wanting to go to more classes whenever possible. This place had professional and friendly dance instructors, as well as K-pop classes and Hip-hop classes. When I first started, I would take one or two classes for one of the songs from their schedule (Queens and Manhattan). However as I am getting more used to their schedule while also enjoying my time at the school whenever I visit, I'm interested and looking forward to attending as much classes as I can for more than one song (including the possibility of making friends). read more

First time taking a dance class and I couldn't have chosen a better place. In many ways, dancing is as empowering as it is nerve wracking. I've never danced in front of anyone before and was afraid of getting judged, but this place has none of that. If you want to let loose, have a good time, get a killer worker, and learn some dope moves, this studio is the place to be!! I did a drop in class with a group of friends for a kpop song (Hola Hola by Kard). The room was well lit, air conditioned, and had mirrors everywhere. The class wasn't overcrowded either -just enough to allow us to blend in seamlessly but still have ample space to move around. Our instructor Fernando was so fun and incredibly talented. One thing to note is that during the summer, these classes are a continuation and build up choreo from previous classes. When we dropped in, they had already learned a minute of the dance. It wasn't a problem as we merely watched them practice that before moving into the newer sections. Classes are reasonably priced at $20 for drop ins but is cheaper if you buy packages (varies around $10-$15). Remember, you are paying for the instructors' expertise and the environment. The owner's story (MJ) is also incredible to watch too! I started binge watching their YouTube channel and was in absolute awe to find out she's over 40!! (No joke I thought she was a 27 year old student or teacher lmaooo). Also didn't realize all of the admin people at the front desk are dancers too until I watched more YouTube clips :') so cool Overall I recommend this place to everyone and cannot wait to return. read more

I've been to classes in both Flushing and Manhattan, and I'm super happy to have found this place :) They offer a pretty wide variety of songs every month and not just ones by the most popular groups. I'm not the most up to date with K-pop, so it's a nice plus to be able to come across new artists and songs through what ILD offers. The instructors are all very friendly, and their energy rubs off on everyone. For my first class I was pretty nervous because it had been years since I'd been to any kind of dance class, but as several other reviewers mentioned, I never feel any sense of judgement here. They're also flexible with makeup lessons, which has been helpful because there's been times I couldn't make it to my usual time due to other commitments. The only improvement I'd like to see is to possibly be able to register in advance rather than the 30 minutes before the first week of class. Some classes are also very popular and tend to get crowded, which can get frustrating because there's been times where I'd end up in the 4th row and couldn't even see myself in the mirror. But I guess that also shows how successful ILD has continued to be, and regardless I will continue to go as often as possible! read more

A very cool & hip studio that's owned by some young Korean girls with a lotta heart for dance :) They teach k-pop dance routines regularly (like a new song each month or so), and also beginner hip hop class. They mostly have evening classes starting around 6 and goes to 9:30 the latest. There's also another location near Times Sq. Manhattan. You can find out what's the routine/song of the month and sign up for classes to dance those songs. The crowd is very diverse in ethnicity and level; a good mix of beginners and advanced. I have literally looked for a place like this my whole life. I grew up at a young age loving Korean hip-hop from groups like H.O.T. G.O.D. Shinhwa, S.E.S Turbo etc. So when I found out about this place I had immediately signed up! Month after month they play the most popular songs out and teaches you their choreography. Although at first you feel like you're having a hard time keeping up because they teach the whole song in four classes but you can always ask questions or ask them to break it down. Sooner or later you'll adapt to the speed. It honestly just takes practice. This studio takes anyone from the age of 6 to grandparents! depending on the specific classes. All the staff is really friendly and helpful. The main instructor, MJ, is really young too, full of energy and has a great personality so there's never a dull moment at dance. In general this place has an awesome vibe with great people and it's my only form of exercise. Today actually marks my exact one year with this dance studio and I normally don't regret things but I wished I had found them sooner. Would you recommend this to others? This is a review only for the I Love Dance classes as I haven't been to their Flushing studio yet. I took hip hop and Kpop dance classes by MJ Choi in Manhattan for 3 years and was always impressed by her enthusiasm and energy. I've been to several dance studios with different instructors and can say MJ is one of those few teachers who will dance with you until the end. She also breaks down the choreography into easy steps and repeats if you don't follow, with the entire class, without calling you out. I've been to a jazz dance class where the instructor singled me out on my first day and felt embarrassed (of course, I never went back). I'm a working professional in my 30s and take dance classes for fun, not trying to be the next Jabbawockee or 2NE1. But if you are interested in pursuing dance more professionally, then I should add that MJ invites the more talented students into her dance crew for events and cover videos. She also gets tapped by major Korean media outlets and agencies for new talent so it's a good opportunity for those people as well. However, don't be disappointed even if you can't dance like Minzy or Rain. I Love Dance's annual student showcase is open to all. I should know since I've been to the last four. read more

I took my first dance classes here and went on to do them for nearly a year now. Fantastic classes, amazingly friendly staff and teachers, this is more than just a class, it's also a community. They also teach classes in Manhattan on Wednesday and Friday nights. The studio specializes in K-Pop dance routines, but there are also classes on Lyrical Jazz, Jazz-Funk, Hip-Hop, Popping & Waving, Burlesque - you name it! I hear they're even going to expand into more wellness-related classes like aerobics and yoga soon. I said it is 'good for kids' because they also have teen and youth classes available too. Some routines can be challenging since they teach choreography that is created for K-Pop groups, but teachers MJ and Joanne are great at going step-by-step so that even beginners can learn tough routines. I should have probably write a review long time ago. I have been to ILD for almost 2.5 years. I remember those days where MJ used to only teach in Manhattan and now she opens up her own studio at Flushing. Let me talk about the classes and the instructors. MJ is one of the best dance instructor that I have ever had.. She always encourage everyone no matter what level you are.. I am not a trained dancer but I just love to dance.. I have been to many dance studio in Manhattan but I didn't enjoy them because I could barely even ask any questions in the class when the instructors in the class only focus on the professional dancers..Well.. I am not saying that there aren't any professional dancers in ILD.. (check out ILD dance videos and I guarantee that it will blow your mind away) Dancing is supposed to feel relaxing and not stressful.. This is what I feel about in ILD because every members here are so welcoming and helpful.. MJ does her own dance choreography now and I love her dances. I wish I could have the time to come to flushing more often because there are so many dances such as hip hop/jazz funk that I want to take.. Sadly, my work doesn't allow me.. About the K Pop Classes.. they always teach the most recent and famous dances.. To me, I usually do not really care which song they teach as long as I get a great workout.. Some of my favorites are Stop Girl U Kiss, 2NE1 Fire, History from EXO, Good Night Kiss, Wedding Dress from TaeYang... and definitely a lot more.. They have a showcase every year.. I have participated in 2 of them and they are great experience for me.. Beginners are definitely welcome to classes and don't be afraid of dancing in the crowd.. My first dance class was with I Love Dance and I've been hooked ever since! The instructors are all approachable and really friendly. MJ makes an effort to make everyone feel welcome in her class, as does her fellow instructors. I personally wanted to try something new, and couldn't find anything K-Pop related in the area, so I figured I would try one of her classes just for fun. Personally, I thought I wouldn't fit in, but a number of students, and the instructor herself approached me and made me feel right at home. The classes are very simple; MJ goes through choreography slowly so everyone can learn and keep up. On that note, classes break down into small segments of choreography, with each class building up on the next. While the focus is primarily K-Pop choreography and dance, the studio has recently began teaching various other styles of dance and cardio, ranging from hip-hop, zumba, jazz funk, modern dance, breakdancing, and more! If K-pop isn't your thing, their expanding classes will give you an opportunity to try something else out if you'd like. I Love Dance currently runs classes primarily in Flushing, but she hosts classes in Manhattan in DANY Studios to convenience those who live closer to New York on Wednesdays and Fridays. Had my eye on this studio for years and finally took a drop in Kpop choreography class after work, their classes are at very convenient times. On the plus side, they do offer classes twice a week that are supposed to be the same choreography, so if you need studio time to practice, you can just attend the second class. Or to save some money, take one class a week and practice at home. It was fun but definitely cramped in their one small, very warm studio. The teacher, MJ, was fun and high energy but cycled through the dance moves very quickly--it didn't seem like a beginner class at all. Minor point--demographic was VERY young. I was very nervous to attend my first class here to learn the choreography for a KPop song. The class is open to teens and adults, but definitely had more teens. There were people at all different levels of dance there. I never felt any judgment, which is what I was most afraid of since I've never tried learning choreography before. The instructor was great. She broke everything down into small, manageable steps, gave a good amount of time for practice, and answered questions as they came up. She had us laughing and working the entire hour class. I couldn't believe how quickly the time went by. I'll be going back for the rest of the month, and am finding myself excited at the prospect and not nervous. My husband and I took a lesson at I Love Dance Studio with MJ and Ying for our first dance. I requested a style I liked for the dance and MJ made the perfect choreography for us! MJ was super sweet and super easy to follow. We were able to learn the whole dance on the first lesson which was two hours. Although we learned the whole lesson during the first lesson, we felt as if MJ and Ying were so helpful that we wanted one more lesson with them before the big day. I started taking classes here about one and a half years ago after watching some of ILD's videos on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnEi11BCyZDoGYFjOsR83AQ) and it's honestly been one of the best decisions I've ever made. I didn't know many other K-pop fans till I joined, but now I've met so many fun, talented people who share my love for it. I've also become friends with a number of people I never knew liked K-pop until they recognized my ILD T-shirt and started conversations with me. =P The teachers are amazing and extremely patient and kind. You can tell MJ and her staff really care about every single student. Each month they teach a new set of songs, and even though K-pop is the main focus, ILD also sometimes teaches Hip Hop, Jazz Funk, Breaking, Popping, and Modern. Sometimes for Hip Hop MJ will choreograph to not only English songs, but other Korean songs that don't already have choreography (such as G.D.'s "That XX", Taeyang's "Eyes, Nose, Lips", and CL's "MTBD"). For the K-Pop classes, the origial choreography that the artist does is followed. Each song is taught in four classes, once a week for the month. Each class is an hour long. Each K-pop song is taught on two different days in the Flushing studio. You can take either day, since the same section will be taught on both days. Or, if you want the extra practice, you can take the class twice a week as well. You can also use the other day of the week as a make-up class in case you missed the day you signed up for. Even though 4 hours sounds like a really short period of time to learn a whole song, it's actually not that bad. The pace seems pretty fast at first, but you learn to get used to it pretty quickly, and all of the steps are broken down and understandable. Even for BTS songs! =P And the instructors will be glad to answer any questions! At the end of each month, the class is recorded and put up on their other YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJmkNZ3sU4r9SG57_mup6ww). You aren't forced to be in the video, but everyone is welcome =). It may seem embarrassing, but it's great to see how you did and watch yourself improve over time as you keep taking classes. ILD takes suggestions for next month's dances on their Facebook page, and all the information about pricing and each month's schedule is on their website. When I started here I had absolutely ZERO experience with dance or even sports, and you don't need any to join! I felt really nervous and lost at first, but the classes were SO much fun, I couldn't stop taking them! The environment is really relaxed and social. Don't be surprised seeing people doing their homework or eating there or just hanging out! Classes are offered not only for teens and adults, but younger kids too! They are super cute and always seem to be having a lot of fun. =) During the past two summer, they have had a special program just for teens and kids as well. At the end of the summer, they have a special showcase for them, and their parents and others can watch them perform what they learned on stage. For the other students who'd like a chance to perform, ILD has their regular showcase every year as well. Rehearsals take time, but the experience is totally worth it, =) Don't be shy! MJ also puts out edited dance cover videos and enter contests every so often, and she has a group of students who perform sometimes at various events and places. ILD also hosts parties every year! Their Christmas party is coming up soon! The parties usually include food as well as mini-classes! Which are great to try out if you haven't taken one of their classes before. I never knew a place filled with so many wonderful people as ILD. It doesn't take long to start knowing everyone's names, even though there are a lot of students! You'll be sure to make some lasting friendships and you'll become a lot better at dancing. Everyone there is super friendly and wants to help out in any way they can, so if you're looking to learn K-pop dances, I'd definitely choose ILD over any other studio. Just finished my first month with ILD and it's been an incredible experience so far. Honestly, I am the most shy and awkward person. I was scared of dancing in front of people all throughout high school and had 0 self confidence, but ILD has already helped me with gain confidence in myself. I have 0 dance experience, and decided to tackled BTS's Fire. MJ and Ying were amazing teachers and fostered a very supportive atmosphere. I didn't feel judged by any of the other students and I have definietely gained more confidence in my dancing. The classes move pretty fast, and there were times I definietely couldn't keep up, but a few extra hours a week of practice definietely helped. It is because of this dance studio and the director / instructor MJ that dance has now become a lifelong passion for me. I do not say this lightly. I never took a proper dance class my whole life but I was a big k-pop fan for years so when I found this school it got me motivated. After one class I was hooked. MJ and all the other instructors are welcoming and encouraging and they make learning dance fun for all skill levels. You can tell they truly care about each and every one of their students. They have also managed to create a community around their school and you are pretty much guaranteed to make some new friends if you become a regular! When I was visiting the US from Korea, I needed to take a dance class in order to keep shape. I also wanted to dance to K-Pop since I love to listen to it. It wasn't until one of my students came to me during one of our breaks to tell me to take a class with I Love Dance. And this was all because she saw their Big Bang Flash Mob that they did in NJ when the group came to perform. So I decided to check it out. For the two months back home in the US, I had so much fun with them. I have made a lot of good people there and MJ is an amazing instructor, breaking down every single move to easy understanding. It's just unfortunate that I am back here in Korea and I can't join them in class or in a performance. For anyone who has a love for dance, k-pop, or both, I definitely recommend I Love Dance. My friend introduced me to kdramas awhile ago and that led to kpop. I really enjoyed the concepts of catchy songs with choreography. The same friend mentioned that a another friend was learning the choreography to those catchy songs. I thought they teach these here! I have to check it out. I saw there youtube videos and was amazed. It took me a year before I actually took a class in their flushing location, can't believe I waited so long. It was amazing to see how many people were interested in kpop and their culture. I made friends the first time I got there. Everyone is so friendly and helpful, they treat you like family. An added bonus which I wasn't expecting was the pounds you lose while dancing! I wasn't expecting to lose weight but I did and people noticed. I love this studio. I started out just over a year ago at the manhattan location. However, it just so happened that there was a 1 year anniversary party for the Flushing location. It had been six years since I ventured from manhattan to Flushing but I had to go for this. Once I made the trip it was hard not to keep coming back. The studio was just so comfortable and the energy from the classes was familiar and welcoming. I loved that I found a studio that could let me enjoy dance and k pop all in on spot. Thank you YouTube and that random interview that highlighted this studio. It's a gem. Also thank you MJ for teaching Sistar "Give It To Me". It's truly the reason we met and I can't be happier. I Love Dance is really the only place in New York City that gives quality KPOP dance lessons. They've also branched out and do many other genres and types of dance. I started taking KPOP dance lessons with them four years ago. And I absolutely loved it. I am a beginner by all means. I've never taken any other type of dance lessons. MJ, the main teacher and founder, was made to teach dance. She has all the right qualities: patience, humor, and just overall a genuine, sweet person. She goes over steps with you if you have any trouble or questions. She makes it fun because she has a great sense of humor and will keep you laughing with her antics. I've performed in one of their showcases, and it was really a great experience as I've never danced on stage before. And then to top it all off, it's a great form of exercise! Because of my recent work schedule change, I haven't been able to attend, and I've noticed I've started putting on weight. This class was my means of staying in shape. I cannot wait to get back. The atmosphere is just great. I feel MJ's personality rubs off on everyone and it's really like a big family, where everyone gets along really well and helps each other. I loved this class because even if I was tired after a day of work, after class, I walk home full of energy and in great spirits. It's really exciting learning the choreography.
