Popei's Clam Bar - Bethpage…read more Stopped into Popei's for a little Sunday Funday and was actually surprised by how empty the restaurant was when we arrived. We had a 4 PM reservation and were greeted right away by a very nice hostess. One thing I immediately appreciated--the TVs! The NFL game I was watching only had a few minutes left, so I was able to catch the ending before getting down to business. Our server, Gaby, was great. Funny, outgoing, attentive, and had excellent communication with us throughout the meal. We shared a few laughs along the way, which always makes for a better dining experience. Now let's talk about the mozzarella sticks... Our son decided to give them another shot. The last time we were here, we thought they were just kind of average. Today was a completely different story. Perfectly fried, great flavor, and an AWESOME cheese pull. Huge improvement! My wife and I shared the onion rings, which had a nice thin batter, were perfectly fried, and were absolutely delicious. For entrées, we went with a burger, skirt steak, and snow crab legs. The burger was very good, the skirt steak was again very good, and the snow crab legs tasted fresh and were delicious. Even though it wasn't crowded when we arrived, the inside still had that lively, welcoming atmosphere that we've enjoyed on our visits here. Overall, another wonderful experience at Popei's Bethpage. Good food, great service, plenty of laughs, and definitely a place we'll continue coming back to. And Joe R. -- you're a man of your word! You said you'd step up those mozzarella sticks, and you absolutely did. Well done, Popei's. Another enjoyable Sunday Funday!

Management skills -…read more Extremely disappointed with the way this restaurant handled a situation that was entirely their mistake. I arrived after missing the 3:00 p.m. lunch special, so before ordering I specifically asked the waitress if the dinner special was still available. She said yes. I then asked a second time if it was still $29.99 for one appetizer, one entrée, and one dessert. Again, she said yes. Based on that information, my guest and I ordered our meals. When the bill arrived, it was over $104. I immediately questioned it because it didn't match what I had been told. The manager came to the table and informed me that they no longer offer the dinner special. The waitress then admitted, in front of everyone, that she had told me the special was available. At that point, the restaurant had a choice: stand behind the information their employee gave a customer or refuse to take responsibility. They chose the latter. The manager's response was simply, "Sorry, you have to pay for everything," followed by, "The waitress will have to pay for her mistake." That is not my concern. As a customer, I relied on the information your employee provided--twice. Had I been told there was no special, I would have ordered differently. Expecting a customer to absorb the cost of your employee's mistake is unacceptable. What was even more disappointing was the complete lack of professionalism, empathy, accountability, or any attempt to resolve the issue. No effort to honor the quoted price, no partial discount, no goodwill gesture--nothing. Great customer service isn't about never making mistakes. It's about taking ownership when mistakes happen. This restaurant failed completely. You didn't just lose a loyal customer today--you lost future business and countless referrals. I will never return, and I certainly won't recommend this establishment to anyone. Accountability starts with management. Today, your management failed

As new customers who recently moved to the area, we shopped at ShopRite in Bethpage twice, and…read moreunfortunately, both visits left us disappointed with the checkout experience. During our first visit on a Monday afternoon, the store was fairly busy. When we reached the checkout, the cashier offered no greeting, no communication, and rushed our order through the register. What surprised us most was that there was no assistance with bagging our groceries. Having worked in the supermarket industry myself, I found the lack of customer service and basic courtesy disappointing. We left the store confused about whether customers are expected to bag all of their own groceries, as no one explained the process. Because of that first experience, we assumed this was store policy and were prepared to bag everything ourselves during our second visit. This time, the cashier was somewhat friendlier and at least greeted us, but the checkout process felt very rushed. We had 43 items and were actively bagging our groceries while my wife completed payment. Before we had finished organizing and bagging our purchase, another customer was directed to the checkout lane behind us and began moving our items aside to make room. The customer appeared frustrated, and the situation made us feel rushed and uncomfortable. Once again, there was no assistance from the cashier and no explanation of how customers are expected to manage bagging while the next order is already being processed. What made the experience even more frustrating was observing several employees elsewhere in the store appearing to have free time while customers at the front end were struggling to keep up with the checkout process. If the store's policy is for customers to bag their own groceries, that should be clearly communicated. If it is not the policy, then additional assistance at checkout would greatly improve the customer experience. We understand that retail is challenging and that stores must operate efficiently. However, customer service, communication, and courtesy still matter. Based on our first two visits, the checkout experience felt impersonal, rushed, and unnecessarily stressful. We hope management will review the front-end operation and consider ways to make the checkout process more welcoming and customer-friendly for both new and returning customers.

The fried calamari and jalapeño appetizer was delicious, except that I got more rings than tentacles. I would have preferred half tentacles/half rings, and there was a little too much breading for me. I also ordered the tortellini en brodo with some pancetta thrown in. I sprinkled some grated Parmesan cheese and fresh ground black pepper on top, and the flavors melded beautifully. I enjoyed a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon with my meal: Primitivo Di Manduria, Carlo Sani 'Oro' Riserva, Puglia. It is a full-bodied Italian red wine with a flavor profile of red jam, dark fruits, chocolate and spice--up my alley! I enjoyed it so much that I plan to buy a bottle at the first liquor store near me that has one for sale. Alex was very nice and accommodating, and the restaurant was clean. I will be back.
