Belgian waffle with fresh berries, banana, and whipped cream, topped with dark chocolate flakes from the self-serve bar
    Amanda B.

It was my first time in Belgium, so, naturally, I had to have a Belgian waffle. I didn't know there was a difference between Belgian and specifically Bruges waffles, but either way, the selection in Bruges is large. I split a banana and berry one with my husband. There waffle was at the bottom and came with a whole, pre-sliced banana, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries, and whipped cream. There's a toppings bar at the front with a free-for-all of chocolate, caramel, sprinkles, sauces, etc. I wanted to keep it simple, so I sprinkled a few dark chocolate flakes and called it a day. The waffle itself is thick and dense, large portion, and saturated in sugar, but very firm, almost crispy on the outside, and not fluffy. When eating it on it's own, I found it to be too sweet and heavy for my taste, but the fruit helped. The fruit was extremely fresh and they didn't skimp on the portion. If you have sweet tooth, I'd taste the waffle itself first, as well as with whatever your order comes with, before adding any extra toppings. They also sell fresh fruit smoothies and juices here, however, they ran out of some of the ingredients while we were there so we just got a bottle of water. Prices are reasonable and service was fast and friendly. Note that the ledge outside asks patrons not to sit on it, and it's quite a small place and no seating inside, so you'll just have to eat it in the street like we did!

Hard to eat, no place to sit or stand, forks don't cut. Ended up throwing half of ours away.

It's more traditional to get fruit like strawberries or bananas on top, as well as chocolate sauce or powdered sugar. They have lots of topping and sauce options. They also have a great warm drink menu and the hot chocolate is epic. There's a line out the door and a minimum spend per table since the place is small but it's easy to hit. Enjoy!

They specialize in XL Brussels waffle, which is more airy, less chewy, and less sweet. They have a sign in English that each person must order a drink and a waffle can be shared by 2 people max. (It's interesting that they don't have one in any other language.) And this sign is only visible when you are sitting down; they should have been transparent before you choose to dine in by pasting the sign on a different face of the column. So be mindful that eating your waffle in the store may cost more than you expected. We got a waffle with banana. I thought it's ok since I like Liege waffles more (nothing against this cafe), but my partner really likes it. The bananas costs an extra 4.5 euros, so it's not worth it in our opinion. The staff didn't cut them, so it's nice to know they are two whole bananas. But I guess the extra 4.5 euros do not include their slicing? We were not planning to get drinks but we did because of the sign. My partner greatly enjoyed his coffee-based drink. I picked one of the cheapest ones, and it was ok. The staff is courteous and efficient. There is a WC available. If I come again, I would order a plain XL waffle for take out to bypass the drink requirement.

The menu consists of their waffle creations and a build-your-own option. We didn't notice until after we ordered that all the waffles are gluten-free, dairy-free, and plant-based. Honestly, if I had knew that before coming here I would have chosen a different waffle place. Service was good and the workers spoke some English. There isn't much space inside to eat your waffles there, but it is clean. All the waffles are prepared freshly right in front of you and served made to order. I will note these are definitely a more expensive option, each waffle is about €10 and they aren't huge. I ended up ordering the Chocolate Lady waffle which included a waffle with dark chocolate sauce, vanilla ice cream, cocoa nibs, and roasted buckwheat. Waffles came out about 10 minutes after ordering. While this may seem like a longer wait, there was a large group of us and only one worker making the waffles. The waffles itself were very flaky and not heavy at all. After hearing that they were "diet friendly" waffles, in understood why. Honestly, the waffle didn't have a ton of flavor. The rich chocolate sauce atop with the ice cream saved it in my opinion. While they were lighter than maybe a traditional Belgian waffle, I don't think this is anywhere close to a traditional Belgian waffle. I appreciated the presentation and better ingredients, but I was a little disappointed. I enjoyed my waffle here, but if you are seeking an authentic Belgian waffle, look elsewhere. This is an excellent spot for people with dietary restrictions though. These waffles are also much pricier than ones you'll find in the area and they are not very filling. I loved the presentation, the toppings, and the overall aesthetic of the eatery, but the waffle fell very short. This is, unfortunately, an example of a "TikTok tourist trap" place. If you are dairy or gluten sensitive, check this place out! If not, I would look somewhere else. Chocolate Lady Waffle 5/10
