So, it's been a little over year and things keep getting better! My teenage son never wants to miss a lesson! A self defined 'metal head', my son is ecstatic to have a teacher like Greg, who teaches him fundamentals and advanced techniques of his chosen genre! To see a young man engaged and remain enthusiastic year over year is a testament to the efforts of Greg and everybody at IR Guitar Lessons. The studio is really cool! With a nod to the classic, it is also intimate without being intimidating! It has zero corporate vibe, but is professional and contemporary. Ian and Adrianna have done it right! Keep up the great work guys ... and thanks for feeding my kids stoke for the music! - a - a - a - a - a - Good things are happening here! Have a kid with a passion for music? Get them in here! Ian, Adrianna and their team are on point!

Saturday morning, grabbing the guitar while still in PJ's... loving this!

I.R. Guitar is amazing. Ian is super responsive, amazingly understanding of all things scheduling related, and the instructors are more than you could ever hope for (even the substitute teachers!). We found I.R. Guitar about 6 months ago and I'm still pinching myself that we got so lucky to find such great teachers!!! It's impossible to put into words how deeply their kindness and availability imprints onto our kids (and ME!). For something that is associated with "practice" we are in awe of how I.R. Guitar manages to keep the entirety of the experience positive and an aspect of our life that we look forward to each and every week. My now 7 year old began lessons at age 6 and his teacher is so amazing that I convinced my now 15 year old to also start up guitar lessons with the same teacher. We have one playing acoustic guitar and one playing electric guitar. Our teenager had to bow out due to the riggers of Sophomore year and both the teacher and Ian have been so understanding; but, my teenager will return during the summer months (and he actually voices how much he misses the lessons pretty regularly).

    Getting ready to rock out.

When I arrived, I greeted the receptionist politely and even asked how she was doing, but she seemed completely uninterested, almost as if I had wronged her in some way, despite this being my first time ever interacting with her. I understand that everyone can have off days, maybe it was hot, maybe she hadn't had a chance to eat yet, but if that's the case, I would kindly suggest the school consider installing an air conditioner and maybe even a small snack bar for the staff. Front desk personnel are the first point of contact for any organization, and it makes a lasting impression. Unfortunately, in this case, it was not a positive one. Thank you.

If I have any writing skills at all, it is due to the excellent English and History teachers I had here. All my science knowledge (which is very limited admittedly) is via Head-Royce. How many schools have teachers that got a PhD from Yale or UC-Berkeley? Very few I imagine- HRS was one of them. In short, the academics here are excellent. And socially I was pretty content. Sure, there is no football team, homecoming, etc, but I don't feel deprived whatsoever for not having any of that. Still friends with people from HRS, even though I graduated over a decade ago. Certainly made some life-long bonds here. I feel very blessed to have been able to go here, and wish more out there had the opportunity to do so.

Because the summer camp runs weekly, with several rotating and parallel themes, the kids were able to land on the same interest and available week. Shocking, I know! The camp's extensive schedule works for vacations and professional work hours. Even though some kids had already attended previous summers, each of them enjoyed the experience differently when friends were involved. They can escalate to be the most rambunctious bunch or wander as cerebral or silly, chatty tweens. The social pace was great, and this camp has a seamless inclusion vibe. For some weeks and cohorts, the group veers younger, like 2nd- to 5th-graders, and some older, like 5th- to 8th-graders. Mike, the camp director, does a great job with the groupings paired with an experienced counselor. We were lucky to have school teachers as lead. Given this was my child's first experience with Urban Adventure, he absolutely loved the exploration and riding public transit (BART, SF MUNI - bus, trolley, and metro, AC Transit, Cal Shuttle, Ferry). Going up to the ferry observation deck was exhilarating and inclusively fun with friends who could access the elevator. Although my child has been to many of the museums and features when he was younger, he barely recalls them at all. We did so much pre-pandemic and, over time, lost those family events to sports purgatory. So glad my child got to re-experience with his peers. Lastly, my child has suddenly shown a burst of independence in reading maps, following directions, examining transportation timetables, accounting for museum and business hours, and actively thinking about plan B, C, or other contingencies. He was so excited to demonstrate that he ended up giving my husband an Urban Adventure experience today. The kid sent a slurry of calendar invites with the various SF locales. While they play local tourists, I actually have time to type up a long-winded review. My child attended both Biology/Natural Science and Technology/Physical Sciences. Many thumbs up!

Topaz, Fairyland's Community Engagement Manager, is kind, organized, and patient. In fact, she probably deserves a promotion and commensurate salary increase. We were originally waitlisted for Maker's Wonderland and Farm to Table. To my horror, the email notifying us that our daughter had been offered a spot for both camps went to spam. Thankfully our neighbor tipped us off and I wrote to Topaz right away and she managed to get our kid in for three weeks of camp. And she couldn't have been nicer about it.
