The Ibis Styles is a refurbished Ibis just to the north of the city centre, behind the museum and art gallery. It's in a reasonably quiet area but central enough - about 10-15 minutes to the railway station depending how fast you walk.
The hotel itself is essentially a budget option, with a few nice features. The foyer has a reception, bar area and breakfast area all in one. Rooms are accessed by lift. The rooms themselves are quite roomy (a bit empty-looking, actually) and I had a huge super-king bed. There was a hanging area, desk and decent sized bathroom with a shower.
Good points were the bed (comfy mattress) though the pillow was very firm. The room was bright (you need to like lime green) but the window was small. Everything was very clean. Tea/coffee was provided with a kettle.
Downsides? Wifi was poor, and the electric heater clicked loudly, as it went on and off during the night. The curtains were poor, too - hard to get them to close neatly so outside light came through. Shower pressure was adequate but there was plenty of hot water.
Breakfast was really a contInental choice with a small hot counter of beans, sausages, bacon and scrambled egg. It was adequate, but the scrambled egg was dry to the point of being crumbly. The breakfast area was very small, so would get busy very quickly.
Staff were friendly and very helpful throughout, and the best point.
Overall? It's a perfectly decent budget choice, if you accept you're getting what you pay for. read more
