Just began my new journey to another gym after canceling from Puregym, since the gym culture isn't…read morethe same it used to be back when it was Blink Fitness but that's a story for another time. It just feels good to see staff at the front greeting me in and showing me the ropes of the place. I have seen this location many times passing by but admittedly foregone it in favor of Blink Fitness years ago because that was close to my location. Wanting to switch to another gym brought the opportunity to come here and it is slightly friendlier compared to Puregym, at least not as cold or sterile. It is Spring Break now so of course the gym was pretty packed but for what it's worth I was fortunate not to come across people doing super sets on various machines or spending several minutes on one machine I wanted to try out. Even had short conversations with 2 gym goers. In this day and age, social connection is very valuable so it felt almost as good as getting a solid workout in. Granted the Red and Yellow theme seems a bit garish, almost as if this place was created and run by Hulk Hogan but it's a nice change of pace from the dull and monotonous theme of the previous gym I was in. The one perk the gym has that separates it from others is that Retro Fitness has it's own Smoothie bar and a varied selection of them. I chose the Mocha Mania to be my first one and it sure does fill you up. It makes for a fine replacement as opposed to going to a fast food joint after a workout. Retro Fitness is my new home and with the highest tier I signed up for, I'm ready to explore more.

I would use the 120 lb dumb bell to bench press . However during the time I'm using it , members would rack their weights where the 120s go. I would put the 120s in the spot of the rack that's open like in any other gym. Alfred would bother me to constantly un rack the weights on the 120 spot that I never used and then re rack those weights in the right place even though I never used the weights. to It's not my job to RE RACK the weights they used . If the 120 lb dumb bell spot gets taken by another weight ...that's not my problem or responsibility . No gym I been to has ever harassed me to re rack other peoples weights , I only re rack the weights and equipment I use . If someone puts a 90 lb dumb bell in the 120 lb spot on the rack , it's not My job to now un rack their weights, look for the right spot it goes on and re rack their . I been at NYSC since March of 2025 and I never once been harassed by this

If you don't know how to play, the instructors here are friendly, fantastic and make it fun to learn. Ask about joining a league (or make one and play here). I came with a very large group with Yelp, and ISSA and RAKIM (or Rahim? I'm so sorry I should've written your name down) were so helpful, attentive, and great with us. There's also a bar and a fridge with non-alcoholic drinks.

I absolutely LOVE this place! After attending a Yelp event here, I decided to join a recreational…read moreleague with some fellow Yelpers + run club friends and we are having so much fun!! This is an indoor BEACH volleyball facility - something I've never seen anywhere else. While playing on the sand does make it a bit more difficult, it also makes the games more fun because you can dive for the ball without fear of getting hurt like you might on a concrete court. The leagues last 7 weeks + 1 week for playoffs. We are currently finished with 3/7 weeks so far and it's been an absolute blast! The recreational league (which is what my team is doing) is 6 players against 6 players. They also have intermediate leagues that are 4 against 4 for those who are experienced in volleyball. My team, however, is mainly a bunch of amateurs (plus 1 amazing woman who played in college) and we are all just learning and trying our best! You can join a league one of two ways - either gather 6-10 people together to form a team, or you can sign up as a "free agent" and QBK will assign you to a team. The latter is easiest if you aren't able to find a bunch of people who want to commit to a league. The games will always be on the same day each week (we chose Thursdays but there was also an option for Tuesdays for the spring league) but the times will fluctuate. Game times range between 6pm to 9pm start times and last for 1 hour. When playing, you'll play 3 games total, each ending when one team hits 21 points. Even if the other team wins the first two games, you still play the 3rd one as the number of games won each week goes into a running total which helps decide who goes to playoffs. Also, they have cameras up on each court and if there was a good play or epic moment, you can have someone run to "press the button" and it will save the last 30 seconds of the recording onto a app which you can download later. My team and I are always pressing the button, making sure to save the footage of hilarious wipeouts or epic moments when we score. The staff is so friendly and helpful! It's been nothing but great since the very beginning. My team and I are already talking about doing another league when this one ends because we are having soooo much fun!

For $50 a month, you get unlimited access to almost everything this gym has to offer: free weights, treadmills galore, stair masters, elliptical machines, even ski and row machines! They also have an entire area dedicated to barbell training as well as lifting machinery downstairs. Whats more, they offer group classes that are INCLUDED in your monthly membership. We're talking yoga, cycling classes, Zumba and Pilates, just to name a few. If you want to get even more out of your training, you can pay additional fees for their specific "small group classes" (kick boxing is one of these) or go solo and get personal training sessions. They have spacious locker rooms equipped with showers. There's also a sauna in each locker room, which is an added bonus. While you might not find the luxuries dolled out like at a CrossFit or Lifetime Gym, New York Sports Club is a serious upgrade from a Planet Fitness without breaking the bank. On a personal note, my husband and I toured/tried out 4 different gyms before deciding to sign up for this one. I recommend getting an introductory pass and trying it out for yourself!
