I very much believe in and have faith in Somatic Experiencing as a modality that can help one find…read morenervous system regulation, heal from trauma, and more. Dr. Peter Levine is amazing for creating this healing modality. I have C-PTSD ( Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ) and found an SEP ( Somatic Experiencing Practitioner ) to work with during 2020. Her name is " Lynne Maclean " and she and her practice is based out of Oregon USA. This was my first time working with a SEP, so it was brand new to me. During sessions with Lynne Maclean, she began calling me " Dear " and " Hun " and " Hunny " repeatedly, both during and at the end of 90% of the sessions with her. The truth is that the way that she said those words to me, and her tone of voice and facial expressions were much more like she was whispering sweet nothings to me than offering terms of endearment. I didn't know what to think of this as it was my first time to practice SE with someone, and I was grateful for the opportunity. Then as sessions went on Lynne Maclean would ask me to tap into my body sensations, during which time she said the words " sexual arousal " and " sexual excitement " in a very suggestive way. I did not know what to think of this, as SE was new to me and for all that I knew talking about this was a normal part of SE. I didn't know. But she continued to ask me to tap into my body sensations the next session, and she again suggested " sexual arousal " and " sexual excitement " again. I felt very strong red flags and a very strong intuition of being unsafe and honestly very disturbed by her conduct. However at that time, I was living in a very toxic shared accommodation household with roommate/strangers that did hard drugs and drank alcohol excessively, all while I was trying to stay clean and sober and to save my life. So, at that time, having someone to talk to on a regular basis felt necessary for me to survive. During a ~ 3 week break of sessions, in the holiday season of 2020, I decided that I had to talk to her about what she said. In early 2021 during my last session with her, I asked why she kept calling me " dear " and " hun " and " hunny " and she shrugged it off as to say that she did not know what I was talking about. Then, when I asked her why she chose to talk about sexual arousal and sexual excitement while asking me to tap into my body sensations, she became very defensive, very uptight, and she tried to deny saying those words to me. And that was enough for me, I recognized that what she was doing was sick and that I could not connect with her again. I told her that she really disturbed me and that I cannot work with her. That was that. After about 2 months of reflecting on that experience, and feeling damaged and exploited by her, and mostly by the fact that she denied her conduct, I decided to talk about what happened with professionals in the field SE. From them, it was suggested that I talk with this institute in the USA ( Somatic Experiencing International ) SEI. I spoke with many of the faculty of SEI about my experience with the SEP Lynne Maclean, in the early Spring of 2021. And after being transferred to the legal department of SEI, I learned that at that time they did not have a complaint process in place for grievances against Somatic Experiencing Practitioners. However, with my advocating and encouragement they decided that it was a beneficial idea that they implemented a greivance policy within their institute. I don't think I was the only client of a SEP to inquire with them about complaints, but I know for sure that I was an impetus for that change for them. I was a big part of the reason they chose to acquire a new legal team ( a board ) for their very first grievance policy. I did the same thing with the USABP ( United States Association of Body Practitioners ) SEI is a training institute for Somatic Experiencing students. They are not a licensing organization for the SEP's The USABP is a licensing organization for SEP's and for other body-based practitioners. In my conversations with the USABP they also decided to implement a brand new grievance policy. This all began in early April of 2021. So, for the next NINE MONTHS, I kept in contact with both organizations as they formed their new legal team of board members and went through their legal required red tapes. All the while, they were fully aware that I had no expectations of my complaint being accepted, nor of any legal consequences for the SEP. SEI knew that, if my complaint about Lynne Maclean was not accepted, I had already drafted a final letter to the SEP Lynne Maclean to let her know how my dignity was affected by her sexually exploitative misconduct. SEI knew for 9 months that my appropriate complaint would not be accepted because they can't sanction a private practice, yet they chose to IGNORE telling me so. Had they just told me intially, then no harm to me would have been done by them. SEI damaged me.

RefactorU throws a lot of information at you in a short time, but in a really well-structured way so that you actually have time to learn it all, and learn it all well. I'm astounded by how much I learned, and how dedicated the instructors were to supporting our experience: from TAs who come in on the weekends to offer help, to being responsive when not-totally-kosher sexist jokes were being made in class (hey, it's the tech industry, right?). They organize events with employers and recruiters to help you make connections. They know they only succeed when their students succeed, and they are all about that. My only complaint is that, being as successful as they are, they have been growing a lot, and for my personal learning style, our class was too big. We had 33 people, so there were quite a few of us sharing the instructors' attention. It was also often a very loud work environment (33 people in one room), which for me usually meant having to choose between leaving and going somewhere quiet to get work done, or being in a room where I have access to help from instructors and classmates. Overall, I'm glad I went and really impressed by what they accomplish as a school. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.

My oldest, who is now going into 1st grade, was in need of a lot of stimulation outside of the home when he was little. He was one of those very active, curious kids always seeking out new adventures and interests. The education staff took great care in feeding that curiosity from the first day. Their story book journey curriculum is a tested and proven method (see Ashley Merriman's and Po Bronson's, Nurture Shock) for early childhood education success across all areas of learning, whether it be speech, pre literacy, social awareness, personal development, gross/fine motor etc. My husband and I beamed when our 3 year old son came home with books on sharks for us to read to him from the school and started memorizing facts and reciting them to friends and relatives. It seemed he had met his match. As an elementary age kiddo he has flourished into a very kind, loving, enthusiastic and confident student. I give a lot of credit for that to Elaine, the director at Children's House. Our youngest son will be starting his final year at CHP in the fall. He has developed so much from their care by learning self confidence, self reliance and finding his own voice. He is now looking forward to being a leader for next years students and I know he will continue to thrive in this loving, nurturing environment. A point worth making is that it is a one room school house meaning the children are of mixed ages together throughout their day. I can only speak from my family's experience but it has been wonderful to watch our children flourish as they get older, growing first from silent observer, to active participant and lastly to confident leader. The one room serves as a wonderfully safe and creative environment to explore through play, art, music, and pre literacy story telling. While it is a very active and diverse classroom, each child really does find their own sense of peace and space to grow within it. Children's House Preschool has been a very, very positive experience for my family.

This year was different (2026). I purchased the 18 hour CE RENEWAL FOR NEBRASKA WITH ALL R CLASSES. There we so many typos and incorrect format questions on the quiz sections and main final test that I found it shocking. As a former educator, I am disappointed in the poor quality of questions and incomplete answer segments. Many times the questions on test never had a possible correct answer listed. If you missed an answer on a quiz, half the time the area where they would show the correction was blank or a "soup of words" that never directly gave the corrected answer. It was not a good experience as very little learning possible as the system is flawed with constant errors plus validation of identity interruptions while reading questions asking for information validating your phone number, zip code, area code, last initial of your name! Did this company recent sell to another owner as seemed so low quality with typos and many other aspects. Not the same Van Ed. Maybe someone with Van Ed should review their own material and correct their errors before selling the courses. I completed the 18 hours but spent far too much time dealing with run on sentences and poorly written questions and answers.

Upon expressing my frustration, and then my intent to posts reviews about the interaction I had with the CO-OWNER, of all people (maybe that's why he thought he could just treat me like that), these are the emails I received from Bruce: This a response to the owners response: he wants me to feel badly about someone who had a heart attack- someone I don't know- instead of realizing we had a business agreement and feelings don't factor into business. Why the course was postponed is no concern of mine. The fact that I paid for the class MORE THAN A MONTH before it began and I didn't get what I was promised is the problem. Instead, this man continually tries to belittle me and make me look bad (he says I registered for the class less than a week before it began. I've included my email receipt so you can see what a liar he is). He's obsessed with trying to make me feel badly about a health situation his friend/employee is going through, and apparently he wanted me to mention this in my initial email. When I failed to do so and focused solely on our actual business transaction he took it as a lack of empathy and still continues to bring it up in EVERY correspondence (I don't think all 3 emails I posted are showing- he sent 4 so if they do appear I'll add the 4th). It's too bad he had a heart attack, but the fact that they didn't have anyone to step in or take over teaching a certification program for adults, who all have busy lives, is bad business. Period. As for the rest, Bruce's emails speak for themselves. If you want to give your hard earned money to people like this, have at it. There are way too many other programs out there who will treat you with respect and dignity, regardless of the situation. AND who know how to conduct business.
