They had a small selection from $6.30 to $22.80. I may be all about organic and natural, but I'm no fool - you can keep that $22.80 all to ya self! The staff is well versed in the products they stock, which meant the cashier was helpful when I asked her to recommend a product. Turns out she was familiar with Toms of Main. I wanted something comparable, so she helped me make an informed decision. I was also pleased to see they carry Dr. Bronners soap. If you don't know about Dr. B's magic soap, get some and have your world rocked! Aside from toiletries, they also stock locally grown produce and dairy. Dry goods such as lentils, rice, pasta, teas and coffee are also readily available. Overall a friendly store. Most of the natural or local organic items you may be seeking can be found here.

The flowers from Boudicca are reasonably priced and I have found let quite well - not Vida Flores but pretty good. It is one of the places where you can regularly get fresh duck - whole and jointed so it is a real treat. They also offer other services - knife sharpening once a month and the kitchen utensils area is always a diversion. Overall a good place to visit when the self control button is fully pushed in

I can't remember the name of the stall, but the last time I went to the markets, I struck up a conversation with a man selling different types of capsicums - I wanted to know what the different types tasted like and why they were shaped the way they were. He was so full of life and personality that we spoke for ages - he even upsold me a very unusual looking eggplant (which had a little nubbin sticking out the side of the eggplant that made it look like a Mr Potato Head doll) and gave me some free flowers. It's this kind of awesome personal service that will keep me coming back to the Britomart Markets!

I spoke to someone working out the front who directed me to the manager who was more than happy to talk to me about the farm and what they grow there. You can buy vegetables on-site or they also sell their produce at a farmers' market. He was preparing for a meeting at the time but offered to show me around the farm if I was able to come another time. As well as a range of organic vegetables they also have free range eggs and lamb. I have also since found out that Hamlin Farm provides work opportunities for people who have experienced mental illness and assisting their transition into the workforce. Awesome.

The lady behind the counter did not go out of her way to help, but was not rude either, just a tad indifferent. I was also super happy to see one of the staples we keep in the fridge that isn't always easy to come by - Braggs all purpose seasoning - very similar to soy sauce but tastes 100 times better, and much healthier. They had several in stock, all 473 ml size selling for $11.16. I am going to have to see the price at my usual retailer, closer to home, for comparison. For those of you who might have Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar as their staple - a lot of people do and for good reason - this store sell the 946 ml bottles for $13.39. A worthy store for the locals.

They've expanded over the years (and were recently lucky enough to be picked for Ponsonby Central) but the Ladies Mile store is still going strong, serving the sandal-wearing hippies and conscious hipsters alike. My main picks at Ceres are part of the Ceres Organics brand. I really like their beans and regularly use Ceres Adzuki and Borlotti beans. I'm also a recent convert to cooking with black beans, and Ceres' canned black beans are a great staple to have in the cupboard. While I do enjoy eating pre-prepared vegetarian meals a lot, I do like having Ceres products at home because they make me want to be a better cook; they make me want to make real whole foods in my kitchen and be conscious of what I eat. So a thanks for years of helping me eat better is definitely in order!
