I have an old car - a 2003 Saab. The only reason I keep this car is Ivan. Whenever I need repairs, Ivan is there for me. He is very reasonably priced, incredibly honest and an all round nice guys. Each and every one of his Yelp reviews is genuine. Many times he will end up charging you less than his initial estimate if he felt that the work involved was a bit less. I recently had an oil leak. Ivan said it would cost be 300 dollars - he ended up charging me 275 and threw in the oil change for free - a full synthetic oil change costs at least 90 bucks. You can't get such an honest mechanic anywhere. Plus he knows cars. Be warned his shop looks unassuming - but he will gladly give you a ride to public transport or the nearby Markville mall. His father who helps also serves as the pickup dropoff driver and all the other guys in his crew are also super nice. read more

In an industry characterized by dishonesty, I've always wondered why someone doesn't just run a 100% honest business and everyone will send their extended family and friends there. Ivan's garage is only the 2nd garage I've known that I can fully trust to do what is "truly needed" on my car. Having had many cars for nearly 40 years, there have also been many trips to garages/dealerships. Despite good reviews and recommendations, some were obviously dishonest when talking to them (I know a bit about engines from fixing my own bikes). They may have done good work but work was padded a bit or they were working at a rate to bill a certain minimum. Dealerships... forget about that. Always trying to upsell. You meet Ivan, and especially his dad (who helps out at the garage) and you can feel the straight-up characters that they are. If you're looking for a courtesy car, cappuccino machine, luxury lounge, and patronizing coddling... then this isn't the place for you. If you want someone to honestly assess what needs to be done, give you options based on how much you want to spend and to what degree you want it fixed, and then get to it and get it done... then Ivan is the guy to go to. I went based on a few strong recommendations, driving all the way from downtown T.O. to an industrial strip at Hwy 7 and Markham road. I wanted to give him a shot to tell me what I already knew - my right front brake calliper was seizing and rubbing the pad while driving. Possible alternate options could have been a warped rotor, a seized pin, or some debris lodged in the pad. Ivan knew all those possibilities, assessed it immediately, and gave me options and advice on what to do. I already knew the answer and how much it would cost to do - both if I bought the parts and did it myself or I went to an auto mechanic. Again, Ivan was totally honest and his price was very good - very good in that it was a fair price for fair work, neither cut-rate nor overpriced. Definitely lower than your average garage but not so low that I knew he'd have to cut corners. It was an all-in price and he was going to honour it. He gave me a time, about 2 hours because the garage was busy when I arrived without an appointment. You can readily see that a conscientious work effort is the mantra of his business. I ran my own large business and was in the customer service industry for over 20 years, and reputation/honesty are critical to success. No slacker employees, no fluff overhead, but doing good work in a real time frame and charging a price that reflects the work. This is the formula for making money from volume and loyalty, not from gouging customers. He offered me a drive to somewhere close by from his charming and wise dad, and said he'd call as soon as it was done. You should definitely take the opportunity to talk with his dad; he is one of those wise old souls who know about life - the hard work, trials, and triumphs. 90 minutes later, a phone call, all done, and his dad came to pick me up. Ivan was busy with a line up of customers, too busy to glad-hand and coddle me. He simply said the work was done, all is good, thank you very much. That's the kind of mechanic I want to leave my car with. When I drove away, the brakes felt great. I took a close look at the work when I got home and it was first-rate. I will be taking my car to Ivan for everything from here on. I will highly recommend him to my extended family and friends. I will always be grateful that there are people like him and his father who run an honest business and put in an honest day's work. read more

Normally when I yelp a place I've never been to, I try to suss out any fake reviews i.e. someone who raves about a place in similar words as another poster who only have about 2 or 3 reviews collectively. I'm pretty good at figuring that out. But I honestly believe that every 5 star review for this shop is completely legitimate. Throughout the project, Ivan gave consistent updates and provided great recommendations. I've been going to Igarage for the last 2 years and Ivan's been absolutely amazing. My only feedback for this place is that its small, which isn't a big deal. Their Garage only holds about 2 cars with barely any waiting area space other than 4-5 chairs that are stacked up against the wall. You can sit and watch but they recommend you get a pick up and come back later. Or when they're not busy, one of them will offer to drop you off at Markville Mall (depending how long your maintenance is). Their hands are obviously dirty so be prepared to receive your car key back with a bit of dirt/grease and be sure to wipe down your steering wheel and shift knobs. I can see these guys work with speed so don't be surprised if your car seat comes back with a little bit of debris on it. I think they take cash only with no print out receipts. Although, you can email them and request one. Parking can be tight as there is limited space. If its full, you can jump out and let them know as they'll designate you to park it somewhere nearby (usually the lot next door). Overall, with the prices that these guys charged and customer service, I'm not gonna complain too much about the cleanliness. I'm pretty satisfied and will come back again. They even made honest recommendations on what needs to be fixed/replaced. read more

I was a regular for a number of years with this shop and I must say that I've come to find that with the work that Ivan puts in can be very sloppy. People can go there and be content with the work that he puts into their car however if I'm taking the time to write this review, I'm doing this from personal experience along with other friends of mine that have gone there in the past. In short, I feel that his prices are cheap because his work is. I've recently had an issue that was dated back to the time he was repairing my radiator which he forgot to plug back in the fan when he was done replacing. Shortly after that, my water pump blew because of that. Ivan agreed to replace it free of charge (great), however this exact issue happened twice after a year later. Without careful examination, Ivan jumped to say that it was going to be more expensive job seeing that my Head Gasket or an O ring would need to be replaced, as this issue stemmed from his carelessness in the past, he didn't see any reason to take ownership or even pay for half of the repairs for this issue. Thankfully, I took the car to another place and it is fixed. The car is working better than I've had it in a long time. The problem, was neither the head gasket nor the o-ring, it was the water pump. When upon inspection, it turns out that the surface wasn't properly cleaned before putting on the new water pump as well as speculation that the water pump wasn't replaced the second time, it was the same one. I've had a number of other issues that I can go on about with him and his co-worker Jay, but this one takes the cake. This shop may be cheaper than others, but I'd rather pay the extra to have an issue like this carefully examined, and properly fixed. Best of luck to anyone that goes there. Another business who's reviews are probably from fake profiles created my family and friends. I took my car to get the front brake pads & rotors replaced. I also had a rear brake squeak noise when I release the brake pedal. This is a very common and easy fix for civics. I thought I would test this shops "positive" reviews. After getting my "top quality" Chinese brake parts from the neighboring unit, the owner told me that I would need new drums for the rear!!! WHAT A JOKE!!! I don't need a new drum! All I needed was grease/anti-seize compound on the contact points where the brake shoes rub against the back plates. read more

Took my vehicle to the dealership to get inspected three days ago in NYC. The dealership told me everything was fine. Drove away from the dealership and noticed the turn signal flashes twice as fast. Didn't think anything was wrong since the dealership just inspected everything. Took the vehicle on a road trip to Toronto and found out that my brake light and turn light were both off. After reading all the great reviews on Igarage, I took the vehicle to get the lights fixed. They were very knowledgable and replaced the bulbs within 15 minutes for only $10. The dealership would have charged me $120 just to find out what they broke and another $20 for the part. If I live in Canada, Ivan would definitely be my mechanic. read more
