Another great cruise port, or spend a week…read more
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a beautiful port in the largest of the islands in the Canary archipelago. Not just fabulous sandy beaches, but lush landscaped areas, vineyards, and lots of fascinating history. History that goes back more than four hundred years.
I spent my day trying it all. I started in San Cristobal de La Laguna. The preserved heart of the city. Now blocks of pedestrians walkways and beautifully restored homes and business that tell the city's history in architecture that represents Mudéjar, Neoclassical, Modernist, Rationalist, and Contemporary. After a few hours enjoying the area, I headed to the Plaza de San Francisco market for some snacks of cheese, jamon, and a drink. Then over the hill to the local wine museum and then to Alvaro Winery for a tasting.
With a little extra time, I explored the beautiful park near the cruise port.
