I got service with a smile. The place was kind of empty. They cleaned the table but wiped the food and dirt onto the seats and did not clean the seats. The fajita omelette was delicious. Everything else was okay. Well you can't go wrong with a crepe and there's were good. I have never been a fan of IHOP. I visited IHOP yesterday and to my surprise, although it was "packed" I was able to be seated within 20 minute time. This location is usually a "hit or miss" based on my previous experience. I can truly say that my experience was outstanding! My server was absolutely outstanding at all times, as so we're the co-workers and management working as a team. Not a bad place for breakfast... but not good. On several occasions I have a weird time being seated. It is unclear what the dynamic is up front. There is rarely someone greeting at the door and it is usually several minutes before someone comes to acknowledge you. On my most recent occasion, our server sat us, but on the occasion before it was another server. The restaurant itself is not very clean. Very sticky in a lot of places and the bathroom could use some work. Service isn't too bad. Most servers are tentative and friendly. One time, my table of three spent 15 minutes looking at menus before our drinks were delivered. Three waters. Fifteen minutes. Blows my mind. Never had an issue with food, orders always come out right. Even when not busy, the food still seems to take FOREVER. While I gave this Ohio five stars last time around, there's white elephant in the room. Actually, it's a herd of baby elephants - no less than 6 children are in the restaurant, and with all the sleek, solid furniture, this place gets as noisy as a gymnasium. That's off-putting for most. So this review is mostly because of the manager. He had his shirt unbuttoned very low and was on his phone the entire time. While the hostesses we even bustling around trying to help the servers, I didn't see the manager lifts a finger to carry an order or take one. He went outside a few times and just didn't help. This place is beyond horrible, complete mess everywhere, bathrooms had the paper towel holder torn off the wall and laying on the counter, hostess station was messy which is the first thing you see upon entering. The floors are slippery feeling and need a complete degreasing. If it's like that in the restaurant what does the kitchen look like! We ordered our food and drinks. Ashley and others brought our food out. Ashley recognized that one of the orders was wrong immediately and took it back. My hashbrowns didn't have cheese and another server came back with a plate and took the hashbrowns to have cheese added to them. After having to drive to Lancaster to get my IHOP fix, (and before that, the last time I had IHOP was in San Jose, Ca., but that's another story:) Columbus finally built one on the east side. Oh happy days! Oh bliss! Thank you God! Yes this is breakfast lovers heaven. This is saturday morning Nirvana. Coffee, Bacon n Pancakes, oh my! Oh, did I mention that you can smell the bacon from the freeway? Bacon, bacon, I smell bacon! They must have a bacon pheromone machine that they use to lure folks in with lol. This is the Mt Olympus of the breakfast bacon n caffeine gods. The three of us drive into the lot giddy with anticipation only to find the cars spilling out to the street, no joke. I got dropped at the door to give our names preparing to drop the elbow on the first person who got in my way, while the other one went off to hunt a parking space. I gave our names then found a coveted spot for us to sit while we waited. She shoots she scores! The others arrive and we wait comfortable n cozy till they call our name. After a short 25 minute wait we are seated. The operation was a success. By now I can feel the coffee coursing warm and comforting through my veins and I am happy. I ordered the pick-a-pancake combo, blueberry pancakes (they have cheesecake pancakes, CHEESECAKE, can you believe it) hash browns with cheese n onions, 2 scrambled eggs and...BACON! Trusty got steak tips n eggs. the tips were slightly pink inside, ginormous chunks of meaty goodness. The other one got fresh fruit n a ham n cheese (for god's sake, what kind of pantywaist has that at IHOP, psssssh, seriously) The menu can be overwhelming, the choices go on forever. Just ask for one of everything. The manager says they have plans to build two more next year in Columbus. Life is good. The breakfast gods are smiling benevolently down on Cbus. Really friendly service every time, but inconsistent food quality makes this place 5 starts some days and 2 starts others. Standard IHOP. They all look a like around here. Reasonable clean. Bathrooms could use some extra attention. Like I said, service is always great, but food is hit and miss. I know because I order the same thing every time. The first time, my omelette was over cooked, the next time, my omelette had too much pancake batter in it and tasted mushy, but the pancakes were outstanding. I assume it's just the product of young, inexperienced line cooks who really don't care. And really, it's IHOP, I get it. However, I have had excellent Country omelettes in Lakewood and that is what I have come to expect so, maybe they should all ride up to CLE and take a class from those guys.
