A lovely restaurant with a good feel that leaves people warm and happy. Looking around I see children, adults and parents all happy and comfortable in this warm traditional atmosphere. The food is good, properly made with none of the mass production nastyness the discerning can tell the chain restaurants use. I was really torn as to what to rate this place - I went there last night and had a fantastic night with excellent food and impeccable service but there was something a little odd about this place. I had been told this place was a Champagne and Seafood bar but there was not a drop of the sparkly good stuff in sight - although I did have some lovely Rossinis! It describes itself as a "seafood boutique" which is fair enough as there was a hell of a lot of fish on the menu but to tell you the truth I think they may have go this place wrong - it's trying to be classy and in some ways it works but with a club/bar in the basement it seemed a little chavy. I did really enjoy myself and yes I felt it was a romantic meal but and there is a but I can't give this place 5 stars - not yet anyway! read more

Two lovely, properly local restaurants to eat in form the Il Bacio Stoke Newington pizza restaurant empire. The pizzas come with a variety of interesting and standard toppings including one with Italian sausage (proper sausage not just the salami that I was expecting) and rosemary and there is a long but not too long pasta menu. Salads, starters and garlic bread are also available although I'm always far too stuffed to even attempt dessert. They also operate as a traditional pizza delivery restaurant, great for those days when it's just too cold and too far to walk the few paces from my house to the restaurant. The only thing I have against this place is that I don't like the cheese they use as standard on their pizzas, I think it's kinda plasticky and so always have to pay the Buffalo Mozzarella supplement. read more

The pizza is the real deal, not the kind of deal that chain pizza store would offer, but the real thing. The décor is full of Italian pictures and paraphernalia that makes you feel relaxed. The restaurant is licensed and has a great selection of wines. The food is very reasonably priced as well. Torn between three and four stars, I err on the side of nicety and go with four. The 80s tunes loudly jamming out of the speakers when we walked in had me all like, 'Ooh yeeeah!', and a host immediately led us to a table, gave us some menus and brought some complimentary crisp bread and olives (I'm a big fan of complimentary food). But, rather horrifically, the loud 80s jams descended to loud Celine Dion and then snowballed out of control into an alarmingly resounding rendition of Beauty and the Beast. I soon realized how foolish it was of me to appreciate the loud volume of the music when I first walked in and liked the tunes playing. --- [Tale as old as time] me: THESE ARE NICE OLIVES. [Tune as old as SOOOONG] him: nomnom, yeah. [Bittersweet and STRANGE] ... [FINDING you can CHAANGE] me: WHAT DID YOU SAY? [LEEEARNING you were WRONG.] me: Oh please god no... [oh. OH. OOHH. OOOOOOHHHH!!!]] me: What did I do to deserve this?! --- We got a reprieve when the music shortly thereafter changed to that of the wordless variety, but its volume remained the same. I ordered a special of the day: homemade ravioli stuffed with pecorino cheese and mashed potato on a bed of tomato sauce with cherry tomatoes, basil and parsley. Robert D got a stalwart margerita pizza. The food was simple and delectable, but I couldn't get over the loud and somewhat questionable choice of music and the fact that the service was mechanical (albeit prompt). I saw quite a few people coming in for takeaway pizzas, which doesn't surprise me, as Il Bacio sure knows how to put out simple, light and delicious food. It certainly steers clear of being a high-street trattoria, as evidenced by its myriad food award stickers on its doors and windows. So my four stars are primarily for the food. Love the pizza here so much that I haven't managed to get myself into Datte Foco to try theirs, even though I am dying to. Il Bacio never lets you down, its good food everytime, no matter what you it. I have always gone for the pizzas, big love for one with goats cheese on it, not that I have a clue whats its called though. The wine is good too. The decor and art work are a little random, but not terrible. And traditional Stoke / Dalston style, there is a massive picture of a prodigal boy child taking pride of place (see Somine for further examples of child photo art examples)! read more

There was a time, not too long ago, that Il Bacio's food was something anticipated with great excitement... I am very sad to say that this is no longer the case. I ordered a Spaghetti Bolognese and a Bocconcini di Pomodoro salad, this came to the princely sum of £11.75 and was delivered in good time... So far, so good. Upon opening the containers of my meal, i noticed that the Spaghetti was bone dry and lacking in meat, it was as if they'd just stirred a table spoon of mince into it. Upon taking a mouthful, the first thing that i thought was "wow! Il Bacio have really gone down hill", but i decided that it wouldn't do any good to complain, and promised myself that this may be the last time i order from them. Upon inspecting the salad i saw something that made me wince, the avocado sitting along the top of this SOGGY (it resembled a vegetable curry, but we'll come back to that) salad was completely rotten, black and brown and seriously resembled - and excuse the vividness of the word - snot. I immediately called through to Il Bacio and explained that i was at all happy with this, and they said that they would send out a new order right away. The new order arrived after 20 minutes, and i retrieved the previous dishes to show to the driver. I pointed to the salad and said "what does that look like?", his response was "Errr... It looks like curry?!". I told him that this is not acceptable, and he seemed quite sympathetic, but told me that he was "only a driver". I examined the NEW order, and found that they had put a little more meat into the Spaghetti, but the salad...well, there was no salad. Instead they'd sent half an over ripe avocado, sliced up and put in a box as a replacement. I handed the driver the previous order and closed the door. I sat down and attempted to eat the Spaghetti, but it simply wasn't that much better than the first - of which i'd had one bite before complaining. I will NEVER be ordering from Il Bacio again, and considering the amount of business that i have given then, not including the large amount of recommendations i have made in the past, it really is a pity that they have fallen so far. In conclusion, i paid £12 for pasta with a spoonful of meat, and half an over ripe avocado... Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere for DECENT food... The best pizza I've ever had. Had as take-away from the Stoke Newington branch. I was very hungry after a mammoth shopping trip. But it was amazing - the toppings kind of fell off , the base was soft, the cheese was delicious and it was still warm. We had a sausage and tomato one. The ingredients were all rich and soft - I would imagine this is what real italian pizza stasted like. It is strides ahead of pizza express and dominoes. Plus it is a bargain at about £4 for a pizza as it is priced by weight. Will definitley be my first choice for take-away pizza again. read more

Il Bacio makes one of the best pizzas I have ever had. As a student in NYC, I have tasted my fair share of famous pizzerias and I have even had pizza in Naples and Rome! Finding a place like this while I was living in London (a place that does not really do pizza well) for four months was a miracle. I actually miss this pizza. Their sauce is perfect, their crust is amazing and the food tastes so fresh. The toppings are where this place really shines! They change their specials every few months and come up with some really unique and tasty combinations. I was obsessed with their goats cheese and mozzarella pizza that came with avocado and grilled veggies. The only reason I gave Il Bacio 4 stars instead of 5 is because they messed up my order a few times. Erre on the side of caution when it comes to ordering something you want to slightly change. It was a bit annoying. However, the staff was always apologetic and more than willing to fix the mistake. The atmosphere is great and you can get some reasonably priced house wine with your meal. I had ordered pizzas from Il Bacio twice before and had mixed feelings. The first time was really good but the second time the pizza arrived slightly cold and soggy. They do crisp, thin crust which doesn't stand up well to delivery. However, I was hoping that if I ate at the restaurant I wouldn't have this problem and I was right. The pizzas arrived hot and crispy and delightful at our table. We had one with jalapeño and sausage, one with pear (!) and ham, and one with rocket and ham. They were all really delicious, especially the jalapeño one. The pear one was such a unique flavor, and i really enjoyed it too. The prices here are reasonable and the quality of food is very good. Just don't order delivery - enjoy a meal out. read more

I love this place, their pizzas are amazing and cheap. they also do a Nutella topped pizza, a weird mixture of savoury and Sweet that sort of works! the pasta dishes are huge, and the ambiance is really relaxed. The staff are friendly and service is quick and efficient. The place really does feel like an authentic Italian restaurant. It's always incredibly busy, especially in the evenings. If the weather is good you can sit on the outside tables, and they've got a new lunch menu so you can have lunch and dinner there if you so wish! Their take away service is cheap, really quick and a very welcome change to the usual Domino's, and they deliver to a large radius, highly recommended. read more

My one visit to Il Bacio was a delight. It was a summer evening, the massive front windows were open and the warm air was tinged with that irresistible smell of baking tomatoes, mozarella, basil and pizza dough. The waiters are all Italian and the walls are lined with images of Italy. Maybe it was the wine but it was easy to imagine I was actually in a real family pizzeria on a quay somewhere in Sicily or Calabria. Try the spinach and asparagus - called an Il Bacio - or the calzone. The restaurant delivers its delicious food around the locality for free and beats large pizza chains by a country mile. Good spot but I was expecting a bit more. Pizzas are tasty. We had the Luca which was a fun combination of mozzarella, salami, ham, jalapeños and egg. It was slightly inconsistent as there were some incredible bites and some decent bites, but overall it was very good. The lobster spaghetti was good, but not amazing. Lobster was a bit of work for not much return, but it was quite light and the spaghetti itself was really nice. Service is quick and helpful. read more

This is THE place to go with your kids in Stokey. The restaurant is cavernous enough that you could bring your prams in inside their own prams and still have room for everyone else to walk around. The staff are really indulgent with the little ones despite probably having seen every snotty nose in N16 multiple times. The kids' menu is pretty good value assuming your children will eat pizza or pasta (something I assumed all children did until my daughter refused to for 3 years--but today she almost finished off her pizza here). And the grown-up options are really tasty too (I like the Ferrari pizza best myself). read more

The delivery order we had from Il bacio was absolutely disgusting - we threw it away and made eggs for dinner, it was that horrible. Couldn't get through to the restaurant to tell them what a bad job they'd done either. Pizza arrived cold, our ravioli was 6 pieces of supermarket pasta in oil with a couple of tomatoes and our salad was hot. It's a shame as there are now a number of good Italian/Sardinian places opening up in the area and if they continue at the level of quality they are they are really going to start losing customers.
