Had the pleasure of visiting one of my favorite spots in Orlando ( or was) last week for my girlfriends birthday dinner. We were looking forward to a meal that would spark our taste buds again like the first time but I'm not sure what happened this time. We called ahead of time to make reservations and the lady on the phone was able to put me in the waitlist no problem. As soon as we arrived, I was greeted by the owner a little too forward and rude for my taste. He said we don't do reservations very adamantly and told us to sit down at an uncomfortable 2 seated table near the entrance. Our server greeted us and tried his best to make the experience a little more tolerable. We started off with the calamari and mozzarella sticks. They both tasted very plain and lukwarm. Theorizing the sticks were pre packaged frozen. Not a great start to our soon to be epic meal. Shortly afterwards we ordered fettuccine Alfredo and lasagna. The lasagna was swimming in cheese and sauce, not much noodle to go around. Tasted a bit off. The Alfredo was okay but not amazing like I was expecting. Tried hard to see it on the simpler side of things and appreciate the home cooking style it was presented but the taste was just not there IL pescatore was a fond memory from the past and it struck my heart the first time but this time it greatly and surprisingly misses the mark. Can't stop, won't stop. I really, honestly try to limit my carb intake. But damn if this Italian place doesn't humble me and my lofty goals. If I come here it's all over, give me all the garlic bread and lasagna! Have been dining here for lunch lately and it's that small, comfortable place that does a great job at Italian food. The fried cheese sticks, amazing. The lasagna, topped in melted cheese and baked to perfection, is irresistible. Sometimes I'll just opt for spaghetti and meatballs and that is perfect too. We've been searching for an authentic Italian restaurant in Orlando since we've lived here and it's been hard trying to find one. The dinning space in II Pescatore is a typical standard restaurant, the service was very attentive and meals came out really quickly. I order the Stromboli ($9.95) and boy this thing came out and it was massive...TWSS. They didn't skimp on the fillings either it was full of mozzarella, ham and sausage. Their marinara sauce is pretty tasty too. My guy ordered the Pollo Di Stefano ($16.95), he enjoyed it but I thought it was just okay but it had a cream sauce with sausage, mushrooms and olives. Our friend ordered the chicken parm ($15.95) and he really enjoyed it. Both dishes come with a side pasta and a side salad to start. I really liked the side salad with Italian dressing. They give you free loaf bread to start, I was little sad that it wasn't garlic rolls. We ended with the cannoli, although it was good, I think it was a little small for the price ($4.50). I love this place! I went here with my friend and we each enjoyed our dishes. She ordered the gnocchi with pink sauce. I ordered the Chicken Marsala. It tasted just like me dads! . I was introduced to this restaurant during a company get-together years ago. Since then, I've brought my wife and in-laws and now we're all hooked. Every experience here is top-notch and the food meets it equally. It's a smaller establishment, so it can feel a little crowded very quickly depending on how busy it is. On our last visit, my wife ordered the chicken parm and I ordered the funghetti. Her chicken was juicy, crispy and delicious with a generous amount of cheese and sauce. I have been frequenting Il Pescatore since Stefano opened it. He has moved on and opened up 2 restaurants since then. Lucky for all of us, the menu and recipes haven't changed much since Stefano's departure. You want great Italian food near downtown Orlando, swing by and order anything on the menu. Everything that I've eaten here has been exceptionally delicious and prepared to perfection. The specials (especially the chicken ones) are my wife's favorite. Many of the staff have been working here since Stefano owned it and remain due to the friendly clientele and the location. I've tried pretty much everything here, but my all time favorite is the Calamari Fritti. This dish is battered to perfection, cook to a beautiful golden brown and served with delicious marinara. The calamari is consistently tender and flavorful. The dining room is cozy with booths around the outside and some tables strategically placed down the middle. It's decorated in Italian seaside fair, giving it the feel of being at a seafaring city of Sicily. Do yourself a favor and stop in for lunch or dinner, you won't be disappointed. read more

I could say that they have the two best Tortellini I've ever eaten, leave it at that, and end the review. Spoilers to anyone reading, because that's what this review is about: The best tortellini I've ever eaten. There aren't many restaurants that have me returning for a second meal in less than a week, but here we are. My first time around, my partner and I started with the Mozzarella Fritta. Mozzarella sticks, basically. And while their marinara could use something to set it apart from other marinaras, the sticks themselves were fantastic. The kind you can tell were made in-house. The breading was well seasoned, the cheese melted and gooey, and a lovely start to the meal. The house salad was fine. I'm not a big salad guy, but it was good enough that I was happy with it. The basket of bread was more on the level of our appetizer, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and good enough that I wondered if I was being charged for it. I wasn't, but I wouldn't have minded. For our main courses, she got a 12" pepperoni pizza, and I got the Tortellini Di Stefano. I'm a New York pizza kind of guy so it wasn't 100% my thing, but for anyone into the smaller Italian style pizzas, you'll be happy with it. As for my Tortellini Di Stefano, it was perfect. The meat sauce was thick and meaty, they don't skimp on anything there, especially the tortellini. There were enough of them that I left the meal full, and I don't do that often. They were perfectly cooked, cheesy, seasoned, and the second best tortellini I've ever had. The best tortellini I've ever had would come on our next visit a few days later. This time she got the Tortellini Di Stefano, and I got the Tortellini Alla Panna, an alfredo sauce with prosciutto mixed throughout. It. Was. Perfection. There's nothing better than a good alfredo sauce, and they have a great one. The prosciutto was a lovely complement to the dish as well, adding a salty bacon-like component that sealed the deal as my favorite thing there. Friday night date night. Was going to be in the downtown area and wanting Italian food so decided to try Il pescatore. It's been on my list of to try's. The restaurant was fairly busy but no wait. It looks like a mom and pops Italian place which was a plus. My boyfriend and I shared a clam chowder for an appetizer. We also got bread and house salad with our meals, I felt like all that was a meal itself. I ordered the zupa di mare trapanese. Seafood pasta. My boyfriend ordered the tortellini di stefano. Both dishes were good. My dish had a good amount of seafood. There was fish, mussels, shrimp and calamari. Cioppino is usually my favorite go to dish and this was the closest to what I was craving. Sauce could've had more flavor. But it was a good and fulfilling dish. Had leftovers. My boyfriends dish was good but it is heavy. A lot of cheese. Our server Timmy was great. The staff is really nice but the food was not good. It is bare bones Italian. I ordered the pesto gnocchi and it was overcooked so the gnocchi was slimy instead of soft and doughy. My date ordered the spaghetti bolognese and it was more pasta than sauce. The salads were roughly prepared but as you can see from other peoples photos, they are trying to do that "home cooked" approach but it looks unfinished. The calamari was more fried than squid. There was almost no sign of the core squid in each piece. Last, the restaurant smells terrible. It was a mix of old mop water with too much bleach and stale air circulating. They could benefit from removing some of the "Italian" wall decals and opening a window or two. Good news is they aren't over priced but I still suggest somewhere else. If you really like this places food, I'd suggest Olive Garden for something a bit more Italian. read more

He said to just wait until the weekend was over and see what happened. He would call me Tuesday and verify. We could work it out then. Tuesday came and he called me. I checked my account again and the charge never went through. I paid my tab and we're all settled up. Very friendly and professional. So to update my review: They need to update their wait system. The food was really good (even the next day!) and the service was great. I still didn't appreciate our table being a slide for butts all night, but that's about it. I LOVE this place! When we want real Italian this is where we go. Staples like lasagna , meatballs, carbonara are all absolutely delicious! Pizzas are big, super flat and perfectly tasty! Last time I had the special of stuffed chicken breast. It was stuffed with perfectly cooked risotto, topped with just the right amount of cheese. For dessert I had limoncello... my new favorite frozen dessert!!! YUM! I also had a great glass of wine for only $5.50!!!! Where are you going to find that in Orlando?! Mama Mia! Finding a good Italian restaurant is not so easy! First off, weird place. I don't know if I came on senior citizen discount night, but this place needs a sign reading "65 and older". We got an eggplant parmigiana, a chicken parmigiana, a clams in linguine (red sauce), and some mozzarella sticks. The dinners come with bread and a salad that is nothing out of the ordinary but good enough to make me happy. The clams in linguine (red sauce) was amazing, I haven't enjoyed this dish so much in a long time. The eggplant parmigiana was well cooked, and quite tasty, but the chicken was no good, like, don't order the chicken. The pasta that was served with the dinners was also very good pasta, and well cooked, and topped with very delicious marinara. If everything on the table would have come out perfect, for sure I would give them 5 stars. As I write on my other reviews, I'll wait for food and I will ignore poor service (that was not the case here, by the way), but if some dishes are sub par, then the whole experience is ruined. I don't need fancy schmancy, just well cooked and tasty. Plain and simple. I will go back, of course. This place has good food. I feel the menu has a lot to offer, and I will keep on exploring. This place is such a hidden gem! My friends and I visited Orlando and was in the mood for some great authentic Italian food. Our server was extremely nice and attentive. This Italian restaurant has been an Orlando staple for more than 3 decades and Tony stands true to the original recipes starting with fresh made sauces daily. The service staff doesn't change and does a phenomenal job. AND, since this isn't a chain, they are willing to cater to personal preferences as much as possible. My personal problem is the portion sizes: they are huge, and I rarely take home any leftovers. I had been wanting to try Il Pescatore for sometime now thanks to fabulous Yelp reviews, so when my parents were last in town, I decided to take them here and we were all very pleased with this decision. Il Pescatore is in an unassuming, free-standing building that's easy to overlook. Reservations are recommended, but not necessary. The decor is typical of your usual Italian restaurant and is a little dated , but you don't come here for the decor. Our waitress was great and the food didn't take too long to come out - double win. Your meal begins with complimentary garlic bread. I ordered pasta with marinara and mushrooms dubbed "Funghetti." The mushrooms were huge, meaty and tasted so fresh among the homemade, savory marinara. I was full, but I couldn't put down the fork - it.was.that.good. My parents loved their meals too. My dad ordered pasta with homemade sausage and he said that it was on par with the best pasta and sausage he ever had long ago in New York City.
