On a cold evening we were looking for a place in Utrecht to eat inside. IL Pozzo has a large outdoor eating area along the canal but also has inside dining under the street. To enter you have to walk down some steep stairs and then a waiter or waitress can point you in the right direction. The waiter seated us and took our drink order. The decor is festive and unique and it felt like we were eating inside a cave but the unique things on display kept me looking to see what else I could see. We ordered a pizza and a filet Gorgonzola while we sipped our drinks. The meal was delivered quite quickly - looked amazing and tasted very good too. The pizza was great - awesome crust and flavorful toppings. The filet was good - a little undercooked but that's okay with me. The sauce was nice but not a standout. All in all I'd try something different next time. Definitely like the location, food and atmosphere. read more

Made a stop for a beer and were seated quickly. An older man who appeared to be a manager (may have just been a waiter) took our drink order. Before our drinks were served he reappeared to take our food order. My daughter told him that we were only planning to have drinks. He said nothing in response but appeared annoyed, and turned and walked away. Never came back to check on us or see if we wanted another drink (a runner served our drinks) A short time later when I motioned for the bill he came over with the ticket and flicked it in my daughter's face before handing it to me without a word. The older limp waiter called Gino is by far the most obnoxious, foul mouthed waiter that we ever encountered. When he heard that we just wanted a drink (witch was ok for the owner) he refused to take our order. After 15minutes we finally got to order our drinks. I speak a little Italian, and the comments from the waiter as he brought the order are beyond every form of politeness. Had a few drinks, little something to eat ( food is quite good) and decided to ask the bill. The waiter called Gino had the nerve to ask for a tip which we refused considering all of the above. This was absolutely not to his liking, he asked where we came from and took the opportunity to treat us with some Italian swearing. A frustrated, clearly not giving a damn, rasist, lazy figure. You know what? I used to love Il Pozzo. After the last two experiences however, not so much anymore. Next time I want some Italian food in Utrecht I'll just have to try a new place as both Il Pozzo and La Fontana just aren't what they used to be. The service just really isn't up to par anymore and it's become unacceptable for me. People pay good money to eat here so the very least you could do is put a smile on your face and not mess up our order. Twice. And it's not like it was just one person who messed up. It was both a server as someone in the kitchen; unacceptable. I will not be back here. read more

This was our second visit here in a 9 day stay. See TripAdvisor for my first review. This visit was with a larger crowd. Once again, Luca and the crew did not disappoint! The place was packed due to an international convention being held in the city. Nevertheless, Luca and Andre stepped up and took excellent care of what seemed like the whole inside of the establishment. Well done! Food was served quickly, correctly and hot! One of the many restaurants alongside the canal in Utrecht, Il Pozzo seemed like the place to go given how large and busy their terrace was! Unfortunately for us that also meant extremely slow service (and no it wasn't as if the waiter was doing anything - he showed us the table and spent the next 20 minutes chatting before bringing our menu!). Luckily the terrace is on a great spot and we were kept busy by the various people on the Canal on boats, kayaking, or just watching the hustle of the street above. Regardless once our food came it was actually pretty good! Decent prices, good portions, so I can't really complain too much! read more

BEWARE - they mistreat tourists. The server asked us what we wanted to drink, then he brought out the alcoholic beverages and we had to request water twice before he brought. He also never refilled the glasses. My pizza was undercooked. Then when we asked him for the bill, he kept saying "The tip is not included in the bill". I know tips are not typical here, as he didn't mention this to any of the other patrons around us. He just bothered us about a tip (for poor service) because we were mostly American. Then when we asked him to split the bill, he responded "One bill is easy for me". I explained that what was easy for him was not my concern, and to avoid a confrontation my colleague paid the bill. As he inserted the card, the man asked if he could add 10 Euros for a tip. If you are a tourist, avoid this place. The food wasn't good anyway. read more

Very good Italian very thin crust pizza with an Italian warm speaking staff. Sit right along side the canal and watch the boats go by. Very nice lunch spot. See my pictures. read more

No Itemized bill is very concerning after reading some of the reviews here and on tripadvisor that mention them trying to scum people out of money. We calculated how much we spent on everything and they ended up charging us 5€ more than that??? The food is pretty decent and they give a generous portion. Overall I would just avoid this place because there are so many other nice places to eat in Utrecht that wont scum you out of your moneys read more

The food was good with generous portions and everyone else's food looked good too. Despite the other reviews saying poor service, we were told we would be seated in fifteen minutes but it was really about three. Our waiter was attentive throughout but a little pushy with our check. 15 euros for tap water?? I had no idea we were being charged for tap water until the bill came. 5 glasses of water for us and the kids. That was ridiculous. Made a reservation online and never got a confirmation. We were told that they only reserve for the inside (where no one wanted to sit of course) but it didn't matter regardless. Would suggest for the food and being by the Canal, but bringing my own bottle of water next time. read more

Was Just in the Netherlands last week and was looking for a good meal. While walking around the lovely canals we happed upon an Italian restaurant. Having an Italian background I couldn't help myself. Walk down the steep steps to a quaint Restaurant along the canal, there I ordered the lasagna because for me, that's the tell for good Italian. When it arrived to the table it was evenly cooked and hot all the way through and was as good as my Nonnina's . I thought this might be a fluke so we went back a second night with no regrets. Had him make the pasta carbonara and I was instantly brought back to my childhood. Went back two more times once for a calzone and once again from a Napoli pizza. Again I was not disappointed. Not only was the food spot on, the dish was hot and stayed hot the whole way through. I would not be afraid to recommend this restaurant to anyone. Ciao read more

One of my favorite, easy, go to places on the Oudegracht. Servers are nice. The food is good. I love this place for just getting simple pizza. The atmosphere is great too. Sitting on the canal during a nice day can't be beat. I always make time to go to Il Pozzo at least once when I am in Utrecht. read more

Pretty mediocre place. Nice setting by the water but there are lots of other places to choose from. Service was totally uninterested and slow. Like pulling teeth to get the bill. Food was very average. Chicken pasta with standard dried penne, tough chicken and frozen reheated vegetables, gnocchi was marginally better but still pretty average. Avoid, many better options in Utrecht. read more
