We stayed in this hotel on October 29, 2023. As we entered the lobby I spoke to a young lady who arranged our room. The young lady told me it would be a $200 peso fee that goes to the hotel since we paid our room thru Expedia. Thru Expedia I chose to pay for the "premium room with a partial view to the beach." I asked the young lady if our room had a partial view to the beach. She assured us it did. She told us that our room was located on the 5th floor up the stairs my wife asked her if there was an elevator. She told us that the elevator wasn't working. As we went up the stairs I noticed our room was in a corner as I opened up the door the window was small and it was half ways frosted. The view was to some trees and a building under construction. You could also see the roof with the air conditioner and other objects. I was like this is not what I paid for. As we decided to go to dinner I asked the young lady in the lobby that I wanted to move rooms because there was no view to the beach. Her response was " I knew you wouldn't be happy with that room. We gave no more rooms available but if you wait till tomorrow we can place you in front of the hotel with a room that has a balcony but you will here music playing all night until 3 am." We would rather sleep in a corner instead of hearing music all night. The next day we decided to try the breakfast. Didn't realize you have to walk a block or two down Avenida 5 to go to a hotel that gas limited options. They were giving taquitos with papa for breakfast. If you wanted more you would have to pay for it. We were willing to pay for other options but the kitchen had no items. We never went back for the free breakfast we would rather pay for it in a real restaurant. Our last day we woke up to no water in our room and came to find out the whole hotel. I had to walk to the ocean at 5am to wash my hands. It was off for several hours. This hotel maybe by the beach but they really need to step up their game. I asked for a partial refund thru Expedia because of what the hotel shows for a partial view to the beach and for what I got. Big difference. They refused. I would never stay here again. read more

The illusion hotel is reasonably priced, nice location, and friendly staff. A few downsides include construction next door which is loud in the early morning, drinking water not included, minimal bedding, the cafe and poolside bar aren't open. Breakfast is included at the next door restaurant "Madré's", very nice breakfast. Thanks to Adrian, Paulina and the cleaning ladies who made our stay comfortable. read more

Illusion Boutique Hotel was perfect for our needs. No it's not directly on the beach, and sure the pool was quite a bit smaller than the pictures made it look, but we were only here for a quick night (close to Cenote Dos Ojos) and didn't need much else After circling around for a bit in our rental car we figured out that the hotel was down a road that cars were not allowed. We soon found free roadside parking and walked to the front desk. The girl who checked us in was super friendly and assured us that our car would be safe overnight on the street. We were shown to our room, which was huge, clean and had freezing cold A/C. Two bottles of water were provided as well as water coolers on each floor so we could easily refill our bottles. Wifi worked well. The hotel itself was a mere 1 minute walk to the beach and we were told which hotels were partners so we could rent beach chairs there. We didn't do the beach thing as we weren't in town for that and the Playa Del Carmen beach itself wasn't anything special. Breakfast was provided with our room which consisted of the usual continental fare. For the price I think Illusion Boutique Hotel works. If you're looking for a bigger resort type hotel I would recommend somewhere else, possibly not in Playa Del Carmen. read more

This is my statement to the police Dept where my son and I spend 3 hours. Not where we wanted to be. My son Anthony and Myself checked into the Illusions hotel located on 5th ave in Playa De Carmen on Thursday June 25, 2015. On the morning of June 27, we awoke at 7:00 am to go diving at dos Ojos Cenote. Before leaving Anthony ask me to put his watch in a safe place. The watch is a Movado Silver band with black face valued at 1,300 U.S. Dollars. I took his watch and put in along with my $1,700. U.S. Dollars in the zipper pocket of my computer bag. I placed the bag on the lower portion of my nightstand on the left side of the bed. I placed a folder on top of my bag with the Handel of the bag over the folder so I could tell if anyone had touched it. We returned from diving at aprox 3:30 pm and went to our rooms for a nap. I woke around 5:30 and noticed my bag was not as I left it. The folder was on top of the bag but the handle was not on top of the folder. I opened the zipper and saw the paper still folded. I opened the paper to see the Money and watch gone. Our Passports were still there. End of Report: I demanded the hotel call the Police but the hotel staff told me I would have to go to the police station to fill out a report. I was told the police do not have permission to come onto their property. I ask for the police phone number but was given the run around. They finally gave me an address for the police station but it was not the right place. I found a Police on the street and he instructed a taxi driver on where to take us. We filled out the report. The following day I met with the General Manager, Miguel. Miguel was so condescending to me saying," Are you sure you and your son didn't drink to much and maybe you spent the money. I told him my son and I where here on a dive trip, not a drinking trip, and his question was very insulting. He asked why I did not put the money in the rooms safe and I told him there was no key or lock on the safe or I would have. He told me no one other than housekeeping had a key to my room but when I pushed back on that he conceded that in fact not only did he have a key, but he had to admit that other managers as well as maintenance people also had keys. We agreed that he would not charge me for my room, aprox $500.00 U.S.D. and I would not write a bad review. However he further agreed not to let anyone else in my room for the remainder of my stay. On the last day I returned to my room to an open cabinet that I know I did not leave that way. So here's the review. read more

Had a fantasic stay at Illusion Boutique Hotel. Beach is a 30 second walk, as well as a ton of restaurants, bars, stores, etc. The staff at Illusions was exceptional. They are the ones who made our stay extra special. All included breakfast was delish too. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone staying in playa del carmen. The girl who does the excursions is fantastic as well. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Will be back, that's FOR SURE!! read more

AWESOME. Clean modern room, comfortable bed and AMAZING location. Steps from the strip and beach (really, just a couple of steps). Service was great too. If you are looking for an inexpensive amazing experience I highly recommend this hotel. The neighborhood is a safe lively place. My suggestion, stay off the strip for food. The first taco stand by the school is TO DIE FOR. Eat ice cream where the locals do, not on the strip, you won't regret it. Orange fast food sign 'las kekas' is where it's at on15 Ave NORTE CALLE 10s .... Try juices where the locals line up. read more
