I just had my very first facial ever, and I honestly don't think there's a better human on the planet to have experienced it with than River. From the moment I walked in, she made me feel completely at ease -- calm, welcomed, and genuinely cared for. There was zero awkwardness, zero pressure, and absolutely no rushing. Twice I was sent home without receiving my service because they had not told me in advance what I needed to do to prepare my skin. Professionals communicate! The third time this happened I asked the girl to go and check with her boss. She was gone 20 minutes. When her boss came to talk with me I asked what happened to the young lady. Coming from Oregon with over 8 years in this field it was to good to be true- meaning the curriculum is good. Defiantly is one of a kind. But how the handle problems is disgusting. Wow. I had no idea about this place- now, I'm obsessed. Absolutely does NOT seem like a school at all! Smells amazing you hit the door. Super helpful and sweet starting at front desk. They do just about every service you can imagine. From spray tans to pigmentation and mole removal, to laser hair removal, facials, tattoo removal... and there is at least one instructor in the room at all times who is highly skilled and informative. I had cherry angiomas removed from my abdomen and a freckle on my face that's always bothered me. The laser pinches a bit, but nothing too serious. Ashley was so comforting and massaged by legs each time they hit a mole with the laser to distract me from any discomfort. I'm going back for IPL Photo facial, and laser hair removal the prices are incredibly reasonable and service is better that what salons change 4 x for. read more

My skin has never felt so soft and refreshed!! The experience was tailored to my specific skin needs and the atmosphere was professional and relaxing. Second, I attended IMAj for a microdermabrasion session. It felt like tiny cat licks! I was given a full hour luxurious treatment and will definitely be booking more! Lastly, I attended the Lash Class where I was given the opportunity to receive a complimentary full set of lashes (normally $150 or more any where in Scottsdale) so that a student could learn and practice their craft. Being entirely new to the process, the student and teacher were very knowledgeable and explained each step to me. I have visited IMAj twice now, both times seeing Staci. My first experience was for a facial. I had some bad red spots on my face before going in and the day after my facial, the red spots were barely visible. During my second visit, I decided to try the tattoo removal, once again with Staci. I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical that I would see clear results after the first visit. In less than 24 hours, the ink from my tattoo was clearly raised to the top of my skin and will soon be flaking off. I will be going back to see Staci for a few more treatments to have the tattoo removed. On a side note, during my tattoo removal the owner stayed with us during the entire procedure. He was not only kind, but very down to earth. In talking with him, I only noticed the pain from the laser a few times. Before I knew it, I was on my way out the door. Received my esthetics and laser license here and after talking with coworkers about schools they attended I am very happy with my decision. Great facility and steady stream of clients to practice on. Good instructors that help you prepare for state board as well as finding a job after school. I also had a lot of fun learning and Really enjoyed my time there. My only regret is paying extra to learn sculptor. I have heard a few people have success with making money with it after school ends but I personally did not find the results to be impressive and they were very temporary from my experience. I encourage you to try it out on yourself before paying to learn it to see if you beleive in the service. Also if you are planning to pay for the laser license, keep in mind it is extremely difficult to find work as a laser tech after school unless you have at least 2 years of laser experience. If I could go back in time I probably would of saved myself several thousands of dollars and just got my esthetics license. But, I suppose it's nice to have the laser certification "just in case", but somthing to consider depending on your budget. read more

This school is a joke. Between the incessant turn over in staff and the overall lack of professionalism, students would be well advised to seek their education elsewhere. One thing that is VERY important and should be noted (although you won't be notified by IMAj Institute) is that the school is NOT Federally Accredited. The IMAj Institute does not accept federal funding and therefor is not federally accredited. You (the student) cannot claim tuition from a school that is not accredited. And you thought you had to fork over your life savings for corrective skincare and laser procedures, ha! Not at IMAj Institute in Scottsdale. Okay, it's a school so there is some give and take on your part but you can get procedures like laser hair removal, microdermabrasion, skin tightening and peels at amazing prices. The "give" is that you have to put your fate and your face into the hands of students but all procedures are supervised by qualified aesthetics instructors. The "take" is that with a membership, you get a month's worth of treatments for the price of one treatment at some upscale med spas. The school is tucked in a strip mall just west of Scottsdale Road and is much bigger inside than it looks from the outside. The reception area has a modern, minimalist vibe with comfy leather couches in the waiting area and a trickling water fountain. Clinical services are performed downstairs in spacious, private treatment rooms. And yes, you will have a small audience of students for most treatments. Upstairs are several classrooms where you can get facials and waxing if you don't mind that treatments are not done in a private environment. These are students after all, who have to get their hands wet before they're let loose on the world. Treatments upstairs are also supervised by an instructor. IMAj (pronounced "image") is a great place to go if you're on a budget but still want to keep up with the Scottsdale Joneses. read more

I visited Imaj for the first time last week for cellulite reduction. I was treated by 2 amazing students, overseen by an instructor. The treatment lasted for 60 minutes, and the entire time the students were extremely attentive to my comfort level and advising me on what to do afterwards. Do NOT waste your money! As a client, Imaj is way too overpriced for a school because the owner wants to be "competitive" with other Scottsdale spas. Their lasers do not receive the level of maintenance they should, and as a result are not even nearly creating results like they should be. If you look closely, they are held together by electrical tape, super glue and zip ties. Really safe for you and their students, right? The tattoo removal treatments, especially, haven't been working like they should.. but Imaj still raised their prices on the service at the end of 2011. As a student, you'll start off enjoying your Imaj experience. Until about 3 months in when you meet the Sulptor. Gary Begley's baby. The majority of your training for the last few months will consist of performing a ridiculous amount of 2 hour treatments that DON'T WORK! Your arms will hurt, you'll burn clients and you won't get tips very often. But don't worry! If you don't have time to finish the rest of your quotas.. They'll cut back on how many facials, peels, etc. you were suppose to do so that you can be a "Sculptor slave." Jason and Gary Begley are VERY charismatic. They will make you believe you are getting your money's worth as a student and as a client. I am a former Graduate of IMAJ, current Day Spa business owner. I brought 3 of my employees here. My staff had an assignment to review the facial and tell me how I as an esthetician and business owner can improve. To critic, review, and experience. One employee.. ( my daughter) was to consider the school as a training facility for herself. In defense to the school It at one time was an amazing school! However time has passed since I graduated of class there 2010. Now it is not just about teaching students (as it was in my day there) My experience was all about the MONEY collected. My esthetician I rate about a 3 average, friendly and knowledgeable. When it came time to check out, I used a coupon which I myself had purchased (as a student.) I bought these with the intent to visit my school to receive great well trained skin care. When I bought the coupon book I was exiting the school and spoke to Jason who assured me I would never have any issue with them. He also assured me as a student it would be no issue. The book does not have an expiration date.. except 6 months from the day my treatment begins. My books were bought my me and they were logged in to the school system. Well as we are leaving, not getting our Vitamin C facials but a different treatment we didn't complain. We were relaxed and smiling amazed with the results and pretty happy. We tipped all our estheticians cash. As I checked us out. I was told that my services were not covered and IMAJ will not honor my books. I was given every reason from a school security issue which involved fraud and fake books, unauthorized sales, I was told it was expired, I was told I graduated too long ago. I felt like I was being punished for something that had nothing to do with me. They were pretty upfront about YOU NEED TO PAY ... It is clearly about $$$$$$$. I was in complete shock that they would treat a former student graduate this way. I alumni and paid for my coupon book which the school has recorded. The person in charge repetitively told me there was "fraud" I defended myself and said I did not steal or cheat or do those things. She admitted my books were originals but it would be a loss to accept them. I felt she could not say it any clearer that I was being treated like a thief. My book had over $5000 in savings and I was only there to use probably 3 facials. They came up with every excuse of why I could not use the coupon. BOTTOM LINE PAY!!!!!! I felt horrible. It was not worth the 30 mile trip I made. After all I was embarrassed of my school to be treated this way in front of my two employees. I would never send my daughter there. My feelings were hurt. I spent about 35 additional min discussing the whole thing with the school on top of half a day taken off work. I believed in IMAJ so much I even closed down my business for this event. I would never return there ever.. Completely disgusted. Clients walking by were surprised to hear this as they paid for their services. They were also in shock... " YOU ATTENENED SCHOOL HERE??... and you are being treated this way??? We used this experience of what not to do to our clients. It killed the entire experience.
