Always seem to be short staffed, and cannot answer questions over the phone about basic labor practices. This isn't the first time this has happened. They used to have an administrative assistant and it was better, but to be considered to be a premier shop in the area and not be able to answer very simple and basic questions related to your car isn't acceptable. I have taken my car there a few times in the past. The first few times were fine, the next few I got an increasingly agitated response to any legitimate questions I had. Prices are not all that great either. Being able to answer simple questions that anyone can google should be a part of their knowledge. I haven't been back in years and after the last impatient response over the phone where they lost out on about 1500 dollars of work, I won't call them for anything again. I don't even know where to start with how amazing Scott and the guys at In Motion Motors are! I have a rare high-performance Infiniti (M56), so there are no aftermarket parts, I typically need new parts and they take a while to get. I moved to the area 8 years ago and have always taken my 2012 to the Infiniti dealership. Over the last 2 years, dealership service declined. In July 2021, several lights came up on my dashboard. Infiniti charged me $250 to diagnose it and said I needed a part that cost $3k (steering control unit). I agreed. After they "fixed" my car, the same lights came on again, and after probing I learned that the part wasn't actually replaced. As a result, I lost trust in them and will never go back. After some research, I took my car to a neighborhood mechanic. I didn't give them the back story, I just asked them to replace the part . . . which they quoted at $2k. Again, I left the shop and the same lights persisted. I went back, they assured me that the part was replaced and offered to do a discounted diagnostic. They came back with other recommended service items totaling $3k (alternator, abs actuator . . ). I only had another $1k in my budget, so they only replaced the alternator. . . and the lights on my dashboard continued to shine. In November, I went to another neighborhood mechanic, because I wanted a second opinion, that if I spent another $2k, my dashboard problems would be solved. This guy fixed nothing and unfortunately led me around by my nose for 2 months. By January, I was almost in tears. A friend of mine recommended In Motion Motors. I stopped by and poured my heart out to Jonathan. I don't mind paying to have my car fixed (because I need transportation) but "I need someone that can figure out what's actually wrong with it, so that I am only paying to fix that". He said they can help. I took my car in, they diagnosed it and RESEARCHED to find a solution. Turns out the part I needed (rear actuator) cost $8k. Which is prohibitive. Scott determined that he could probably refurbish my existing actuator, and solve the problem. ABSOLUTELY GENIUS! Refurbishing only cost me $650. In addition, Scott saw that I needed an oil change and my inspection had expired, so he got all of that done while he had my car. Saving me time and the headache of finding someone I can trust to do those things. They did all of this in about 3 business days. So, I was only out of pocket about $800 AND all of the light on my dashboard, that were making me anxious, have been resolved. I can't thank them enough for their time, energy, honesty, care, and communication. I went to In Motion Motors for the first time this morning and met Scott and Brian, the two principals and master mechanics there. They did a routine service for my Mercedes Benz 2011 E550 4Matic. They have a well-organized and clean little shop nestled between a limo service and an Aamco transmission franchise just off Business 7 on Ft. Evans road SE. Wow. I was really impressed. I arranged by phone yesterday to drop the car first thing in the morning today and wait for the repair, which they estimated at 1-1/2 hours. I asked them to check the battery too, and it needed replacement. The entire service, including battery installation and computer re-sync, took 1 hour 15 minutes. Nice. These guys are extremely knowledgeable, courteous, interested in getting to know my car, and careful with recommendations about what to fix and what to wait on. I had the rear brakes inspected a few weeks ago by a reliable source and they checked them for me during the service and reported to me the exact same assessment: "Close to ready, but it's OK to wait until the next service to have them done." They gave me a demo with a stack of business cards to show me the exact thickness of the pads and when it would be time for replacement; they had about 4 or 5 cards worth of wear left. This was good theater by Scott, and informative too. They could have told me to get them done right now like most service writers in town would do, but these guys are better than that, and demonstrated genuine honesty and integrity--rare qualities indeed. So glad to find a local shop that knows Mercedes service with factory certified credentials. The prices were very reasonable, but it's the knowledgeable and courteous service that will keep me bringing my baby back for more TLC. -Corey read more

Very disturbing experience. The owner was both arrogant and intolerably attention disordered (ADD) not to mention quoting a job price more than DOUBLE what others did. $90/hr, Really?....not here based on the quote... It's no 7 hour job by the Mercedes manual which tends to be fat padded anyway. Good mechanics can whip these things out twice as fast as the book suggests - depends. I had the parts because you must be careful with "some" shops using cheaper parts. The service manager George was polite however. Also he made it clear he drove a Ford so could not answer my specific Mercedes questions I had regarding one of the jobs which required a part over $2,000 if the part was new. Between the two jobs, potentially looking north of 3K with this guy. This is not to say they don't know what they are doing as I believe some do in the shop. However, grossly over-priced in my case, and the owner Scott about as rude and "full of himself" as I have ever experienced. He's a car mechanic, not a neurosurgeon.... please get off yourself. Few owners have the depth of knowledge of these cars I have, suffice it to say 5 of them over 34 years. I've seen it all, but this guy was the rudest yet- Jack _ _ _ behaved by my standards. I had to call three times to reach him over two days as he was not there each time I called. Finally he called back and stated: "Why are you bugging George?" (Excuse me.... it was George (The Ford owner) who could not answer my "specific" Mercedes questions requesting I speak with the owner Scott.) The owner said right off the bat in a combative tone... " I'm the owner, you're lucky to be speaking with me." (Excuse me your Holy Arrogance!) I don't take condescending guff off you- a common mechanic or anyone who behaves as such... No class whatsoever "in my view" -- gave it right back. He also records his calls so he stated. I told him to go listen to the calls then. My recommendation to anyone with a BMW or Benz is to find a decent mechanic an hour or so away where they don't have the crusty condescending "Tude" and are far more reasonable. I am scheduled to have the same job done including alignment for $325 an hour away... have to drive 30 more minutes... big deal. In Motion's quote just for the part replacement labor was $600. All you folks who own these expensive cars, you may be good at your forte but beware of so many of these "sorts".... and the Dealers, "Highway Robbery." Finding a good, pleasant and refined Benz or BMW mechanic around Wash Metro is tough... save your repairs for your hometown or take a trip 1.5 hours away and you are more likely to be treated fairly and decently. Too much business and too much $ floating around Fairfax and Loudoun. If you want to over-pay and be treated rudely... be my guest but I would not go back to In Motion if Scott got on his knees, washed my feet, bowed, apologized and offered the job for Free. In "my opinion," straight-out, the guy behaved like a true common Tool. Hope it was worth it to treat a potential new customer this way... maybe he'll guard his fidgety festering gob and sit still for a few seconds next time. I paid his $200 diagnostic fee, walked out ticked-off big time as would anyone who experienced this guy. They probably don't want knowledgeable customers anyway... they know too much and the bulk of Benz and BMW owners around here probably are not that knowledgeable to the degree one need be to protect oneself from excessive German car repair charges. Good Luck, but I would look elsewhere... plenty of good shops and customer sensitive professionals if you can find one nearby? read more
