First of all, the communication ahead of time prior to our arrival was great - Jake asked what we wanted to fish for on which days and we scheduled them with the ability to move around if we needed to in case of bad weather (we lucked out thankfully). Both Jake and Joe worked very hard finding us a variety of fish and taught us different techniques. Their equipment is top of the line and we both ended up catching not only a nice variety of fish, but trophy sized walleye on our second day that shocked the hell out of us (biggest fish we had ever seen!). I highly recommend Jake and his crew; they are professional and fun people to be around. We hope to plan a smallmouth trip sometime in the future

Weather was often uncooperative but Jake is a great guide, the hardest working guy on the water, attuned to conditions and determined to find the fish. He has a fast A-list boat, A-list electronics and his tackle is first rate. (We are seasoned fishermen who brought our own pro-level gear but ended up using his.) I suspect there's not a lure at Cabela's or Bass Pro Shops that Jake doesn't have in his tackle box. We switched lures and techniques often depending on conditions and location and caught fish, even on a day when the wind was 20 mph from the north at our backs. Our best day was about 35 bass and on our final day we probably brought 25 fish to the boat--averaging about 4.5 lbs each. My big one topped the scales at 4 lbs, 14 oz. It was close to epic!

Scientifically this area shows a geological record of forest development and destruction through…read morethousands of years of glacial advances and retreats. This area is 25 acres more or less of old field and a few scrub trees. You find it on State Highway 42, a few miles north of Two Rivers. You can enter it via the parking lot on the east side just south of the junction with County Highway BB. It is a short walk to the east side of the field. There you will stand next to a precipice bluff/cliff. If you suffer from vertigo be careful as it's a long way down. The view of Lake Mishigami (Michigan) is breathtaking as you scan from north to east to south. Even with the lake so high there is a thin beach down there. Although climbing down the bluff is not for the unfit and timid. But if you really, really want to see the layers of forest come and gone you need to see the bluffs; and that means getting down there' Other than this, the old field is a nice place to meander, walk your dog or find a spot to lay out your picnic blanket. Keep in mind there is almost always wind. If you are a geologist or a paleobotanist this place could supply fodder for a Masters' thesis. For the rest of us it's a windswept field with dangerous bluffs on one side. Still, if you appreciate gorgeous views of a beautiful lake, it would behoove you to take the short drive north of "Trivers" and check this area out. Climb down, if you have the cojones.

We learned a few things that I would like to pass on to others who are new to using this guide service. First of all, the equipment, heated ice shacks, transportation on the ice was all top notch. On the website you can "book" your trip using an email link. Be sure to specify the type of guide you are booking in your email, semi guided or fully guided. The email just confirmed the date. There is no payment option on the website for the deposit. There was no other information as to where we were to meet in the morning and at what time. I had to text the person I sent the Zelle deposit to ask when and where we were to meet in the morning. When we loaded in the morning there was no conversation restating the type of guide we selected, I should have asked. I assumed I booked a semi guided trip but at the end of the day I was charged for a fully guided trip. We fished two locations, about two hours for walleye at the first location and then we were transported out to the reef to fish for white fish for the rest of the day. Our day started a little after 6 AM and ended at 2 PM. At each location the bait and lure was explained and how to present the lure. Once those instructions were given the guide was off to pick up his next group. While fishing for white fish the guide did come back twice to check on us. He fished with us for about 10 minutes and then left to transport another customer. At the end of the day we were charged for a fully guided trip. It's hard to understand how two visits during the day is considered a fully guided trip. I'm not sure what the difference is between a semi and fully guided trip? This was our first guided trip, my assumption was that the professional guide is going to put us on fish. If one species or location isn't working then try another, we sat in the same spot for six hours. We did discuss with the guide how the nice weather might be affecting the bit, his response was "That's fishing.". That is a true statement but I don't think the value was there for the price we paid for a fully guided experience. My suggestion is to make sure you know what you are purchasing for the day so that there are no surprises at the end of the day.

Green Bay Sail & Paddle is a nonprofit…read moreorganization that offers opportunities to sail and kayak, no matter your level of experience or ability. They have adaptive sailing classes, kayaking classes for people with autism, sailing options designed just for women, and even camps for kids. On the weekends, the rent out kayaks and sail boats in two-hour time periods. I got to go out on Green Bay with one of the junior sailors (he was in 11th grade, but a great sailor!) We took out a four-person catamaran, and glided through the gentle bay. I was a little nervous at first because water activities aren't really my thing, but they make everyone wear a life vest and explain everything beforehand. Once I was out on the water, I felt perfectly safe and it was a fun experience. Pro tip: You will get wet while sailing! I don't know what I was thinking and wore long linen pants, and they were drenched by the end of my excursion. I suggest wearing shorts or bringing a waterproof poncho. Also: There are no proper restroom facilities, just a port-a-potty, so keep that in mind when planning your day. Everyone at Green Bay Sail & Paddle were extremely kind and patient. Sailing on a catamaran was a fun way to see a different side of Green Bay!
