Excellent veterinarians and all staff. Timely handling of appointments- efficient and extremely courteous. What a friendly group. The waiting room is very nice and there are lots of parking spaces. We are very pleased with this practice. On several occasions our pup needed care and they were able to see her on the same day or make a recommendation. We are so fortunate to find this office. We called other places and none had openings and we were recommended to take our pup to emergency vet or wait 7 to 10 days for an appointment. (Eeeek!) We are so grateful for this office's accommodation to be able to provide care to our pup. Our pup didn't have to endure any long wait times of discomfort/pain. The cost for care was also extremely reasonable and appropriate- and again we are thankful especially during these current economic times. They have sufficient office hours as well. I wouldn't trust any other place with my baby boy! The staff and doctors are so knowledgeable and caring. We have received calls from the doctor after hours because he said he was going over our boys chart and had some ideas to help him! It feels like they care about my baby as much as we do! If you've recently been there and there was an issue with scheduling etc ITS NOT THEIR FAULT OR THEIR USUAL STANDARD OF CARE! One bad employee mixed up so much that it's taking them weeks to get it all organized. That employee isn't there anymore and they are doing everything to make sure everything is corrected! We had that issue today when we brought our boy in for a visit but that employee didn't actually schedule it so we had to reschedule but I promise you won't be disappointed if you stick it out! you won't find a more passionate and amazing group of doctors and vet techs! read more

The vet itself was very clean and staff was friendly and helpful. However - when I went in for my cats blood test, vaccines, and spay they were unable to administer all the vaccines or take blood (which was fine - we rescheduled to do it all the day of the spay while she was put under). I was given a price for how much the spay and vaccines would cost at the first visit, so I was expecting roughly $100 for the spay and another $100-$200 for the vaccines and blood work. What they failed to mention was that there would be around $600 more I'd be paying on top of everything. I went in completely unprepared to shell out $902.82. They were not upfront with the exact dollar amount and I was taken advantage of by this clinic. read more

Our dogs vet was Dr. Spencer. She was very friendly, very informative and took a lot of time with us. Our dog may possibly have a tumor. This was a hard vet visit. Dr. Spencer was very sweet and seemed very trustworthy. She also printed up a lot of information for us to read on all the possible outtakes. That was going above and beyond for us. It didn't go unnoticed. We really appreciate Dr. Spencer. She has a very nice warmth to her. If our dog does end up needing surgery, I hope she will e able to conduct it. I take my Mastiff mix here and he is a really big boy. I have been to other vets that I can tell that the staff are not used to bigger dogs and are a bit intimidated by them. Not here. The whole staff is very nice and the vet techs are amazing. Most dogs, and their owners, are intimidated just by the site of my big baby (he is 3) and being aware of this they offer us an exam room to wait in. No this doesn't bother me because I don't see it as discrimination or nothing like that. I see is as good customer service to anticipate the needs of the customer and tailor to that. We were so sad when Dr. Kier and Dr. Johnson left Princess Anne, and I finally tracked Dr. Kier down to here (Dr. Johnson is a relief vet at Dog & Cat Hospital in Norfolk, as I accidentally discovered when I took my NACC foster cat in!) Dr. Kier does an amazing job of counseling and offering insight and practical guidance throughout each vet visit. I've taken my dog here for several years, and used to love the care my pet received. However, that vet has since left and the business is now run by the two owners- neither of which I am impressed with. First, they're all about the dental cleanings... Oh, your dog has cancer? You should get her teeth cleaned. Your dog needs a rabies shot? She needs a dental cleaning before we can do that. I was in for a routine physical a few years ago and ended up being held up for 45 minutes while the front desk waited for the vet to write up a dental cleaning estimate- which I never asked for nor wanted. Second, I think they're more about the money than the animal. My dog had a scratched cornea and at a follow up visit, the vet bragged about how well she was doing, did all these tests, and after he was finished I told him he was looking in the wrong eye the whole time. A simple check of her chart would have pointed this out. I refused to pay for the visit, and they sent me bills for months after this. I would always rather support small business and someone in the neighborhood, but I can no longer support this office. read more

Independence Vet hospital, Dr Hastings, Dr Johnston, Kim Hastings, Dustin Hastings, Patty, Christine and anyone else I failed to mention are the most compassionate group I have ever experienced. I have been taking my FURbabies there for years and NEVER EVER did I experience anything even remotely close to the "complaints" listed. Perhaps you should try asking questions!! And regarding dental, not caring for your animals dental needs can result into some serious medical/health issues, just as with people. Yes they do encourage dental cleanings BUT they do not MAKE you!! I highly recommend this Vet Hospital to any, every and all...and as with any place, if you do not understand something..OPEN up you mouth and ask questions, after all that is what being a good and responsible pet owner is about as well. I have been going to these guys for 10 years. They make you and your pets feel like family. I have 4 dogs and occasionally foster 1 and 2 cats. They genuinely care about the wellbeing of your pets. They once let me keep one of their Three rooms busy for like half the business day because my cocker spaniel Roxie was having puppies and I was terrified. And no they didn't charge me extra. Whenever I have pet parent emergencies they fit me in asap and help fix whatever is wrong as best they can. Patti and Dustin are the most amazing people when they handle and care for your pets. I am new to the area and I took my kitty here for her new patient exam and her vaccines that she was due for. ....she has been SICK ever since, sneezing and watery/red/blood shot eyes. Dr. Smith has blamed it on the vaccines ever since! I spoke to another vet, and I was told that the she shouldn't be feeling any symptoms from the vaccines anymore. I've been to several different veterinary hospitals in the past and IVH is my favorite. The staff is super friendly! There are no long waits, the exam was thorough and Dr Johnston spent quality time with my baby. One thing I especially like is that they don't make you feel guilty for anything. I've been to several offices where I felt like I was critiqued when I was only clueless. In terms of pricing, I found it was about average, maybe on the higher end, but you for the service and quality care, it is well worth it. Our family vet for our dogs is here and we can't be more pleased. However, we have a cat who recently started having skin/fur issues and was extremely uncomfortable. I did not have an established relationship with a vet for my cat. I called the office and they listened to me with empathy scheduled me the same day. They took care of my fur baby, didn't make me feel like I had been negligent parent in his care and we all left much happier. Worst vet experience I have ever had. I decided to try a new vet office that is closer to my house and my experience was terrible. The staff didn't seem to care about animals or their job. The vet only examined my pet for 5 minutes and and then tried to convince me to set up a dental appointment (which he absolutely does not need) and never addressed any of my original concerns about me pet. I do not recommend this vet office to anyone. There are tons of more knowledgeable and caring veterinarians in the area. read more

Wow! These people are awesome! I took both my dogs in for their updated vaccinations and was greeted pleasantly from the front staff to the technicians to the dr. (the doctor is the quite the comedian - you can tell he loves the pets and his job!) My dog even got a little overly excited over the attention and tinkled a bit on the tech but they acted like it was no big deal even though I'm sure they must keep a closet full of spare scrubs! Independence Veterinary Hospital = The most compassionate team of medical professionals I have ever encountered. Dr. Smith was very thorough to explain exactly what was happening as my Allie (dog) was treated. Dusten Keith -medical technician who gave exceptional care to my Allie and took immediate action to make sure Allie would be seen on Wednesday when I called for help. My Allie has an infected liver. "Treatable with antibiotics" - magic words from Dr. Smith. He took a lot of time to carefully explain, in detail, what was happening and the medical actions needed to be taken. Only what was necessary - one step at a time. We still have a long road to go, but I know I can put my Allie's health in such capable hands. It's so good to know that there is a place to take your pet where compassion and genuine concern comes first. Dr. Hastings is also amazing there at IVH and has always been so good with Allie. She loves it there - everyone there. A dog knows when it is loved and cared for, especially when not feeling well. FYI - Allie had been sick for a couple weeks (I thought was tainted dog food), but when she took a turn for the worse Tuesday night (2 AM Wed.), I called the emergency vet place nearby - their first response - "How will you be paying if you bring her in"...I couldn't believe it - how shallow and insensitive - not even wishing us the best as we said goodbye. Allie and I made it through that night - very scary. I am so thankful and pleased that we waited, because I know Allie was in better hands and care with Independence Vet Hospital - Dr. Smith, Dr. Hastings, and Dusten. Allie's tummy is so bloated and distended, not in pain, just very uncomfortable. All due to her liver not functioning properly - infection. Further tests will be done to see what the cause is, but treatment first. The Doc's at Independence Veterinary Hospital will only do what is absolutely needed. I love that confidence in them. I wanted to give them a shout out, because every animal should have that kind of care. And please keep my Allie in your prayers. She's my best friend. read more

We just moved here and was in need of a vet and after much research decided upon Independence Vet. Hospital! I went there this morning for an annual shot appt and was greeted with friendly staff! I went back with the techs and they were friendly as well as the Dr. I do have to come back with my two Yorkies to have the rest of their shots given to them because they are small and the vet didn't want to give them everything in one day. This seemed very strange because I have never had to do this before ever (they are 11 & 10) so at the front desk I asked the lady checking me out if I would have to pay for a "wellness visit" again I was told no just the shots, so I am hoping that this holds true because like I said I have never had an issue nor had to bring my dogs in twice, this is their policy I guess and I'll go with it but better not have to pay another $102 just to walk in the door for shots! I will see how it goes and adjust my review based on that! read more

Absolute worst service. Will not recommend. Animals misdiagnosed, mistreated and owners lied to about the whole thing. My cats on his last leg, to the independence veterinary hospital he's fine he's getting better. All symptoms worsened, he went from slightly ripping his skin open, to shredding himself like a zombie cat. Because instead on doing a culture on my animal, the way any doctor would human or pet.. they did it the easiest way for them. They eyeballed his symptoms and prescribed him drugs that worsened his condition. Now after spending the whole night in the emergency vet, spending $530 I find out, the surgery he needs could be anywhere from $2,000-$6,000. But he was getting better ? The emergency vet gave me so many instructions to not letting him have the cone off till it's completely healed. "Never recommended from independence vet." To no kitty litter only paper because of that the chemicals could do to irritate the open wound. None of these suggestions or actually any suggestions were given by these doctors. They just handed me the wrong set of antibiotics not only once but TWICE. Without any medical diagnoses on the type of infection. Bacterial? Fungal? Neurological? I guess when you put your life into saving animals life's, one doesn't matter to you. Well don't worry, when I get the results back, and have substantial proof I will be following through with veterinary malpractice suit. Hope this really helps everyone, I love my kitties puppies reptiles and so fourth. And I'd hate to see someone else's animal end up like mine, because someone had to take there lunch break early. If I started chewing my rib cage open, I'm sure any sane doctor would test the tissue. Don't let idiots work on your animals, they are your family.
