I am a senior and love independent health. I have never been refused anything and have always gotten an answer on approvals quickly. People complaining and expecting a 24hr turnaround time are being unrealistic, and running to the ER instead of waiting for approval is what drives up costs. This company boasts about its Red Shirt treatment relating to customer service. The implication is that their red shirt is the equivalent of the red carpet. Trust me, it's not. I suspect that, from its board to its executives to its customer service reps, no one truly knows what he or she is doing (I personally know someone in a director position there who is wholely unqualified for his job) or cares about customers. Sometimes, the problem is not the insurance company. All too often it's the provider of service. I have Independent Health (IHA) and have enjoyed good service most of the time. Recently, I got a bill from Catholic Health for services from one their " bottom of class" providers. The service was 7 months ago and CHS is just sending the bill. This billing tardiness caused distortion in my deductible costing me money. I called IHA and connected with a gracious lady named Molly. I explained my situation and she responded quickly to search for a solution. She went through all the elements of the bill, coverage, co-plays, deductibles, etc. Then her supervisor, Sharon, reviewed her conclusion. They spent 45 minutes helping me. It's hard to find that level of service these days and I'm truly thankful for their' effort. read more

Horrible! We have had this since January and I am still trying to get my prescriptions filled. I used Express Scripts for years and never had any problems but they do not use them! So I had to sign up with one of the 2 companies they do use. This morning I get a text saying one is being delayed because they need more information from my doctor? It is not anything special nor new. But as I have already had to wait months for them to activate my account I am getting very low now and delaying it has me stressed out. A health care company with a goal to reject your claim. Recently they a rejected claim for a costly medicine. They first rejected the claim with a reason that they don't cover the medication. I spoke with a rep and he gave me a name of a medication with they cover. I requested my doctor and he wrote a prescription for that. They rejected again under technical ground. I was a bit curious. I have created an account online and checked how much this plan is paying for me. I regularly take 3 medications. I found the plan paid nothing towards those medications. Since they are generic, those are around $10 anyway. So this plan is doing nothing for me other than ripping me off. I am not sure who monitors fraudulent companies like this. I hope someone will read this review and investigate this company. read more

My primary care physician ordered a stress test . This after having ongoing chest pains . My PCP further informed me , The stress test has to be approved by your health insurance . Upon arrival at my residence , I immediately phoned Independent health . At this time I requested the status of the above ordered stress test . The representative stated to me , you will have an answer in 24 hours ( business days ) . That was on Friday . Not having a response , on Monday I phoned Independent Health again . This time the representative Informed me my doctors request is under review. The rep. further stated Independent Health has up to fourteen days to answer , If the doctor ordered stress test is approved . I have been advised by a friend who is a RN , to have my wife drive me to the ER . To say the least , I am very disappointed with Independent Health .
