Hubby was pretty excited I found this place as he was craving Indian food. He typically gets his fix in Albuquerque when he's home but this particular weekend he were down in LC. We found this place through Yelp and got there shortly after they opened. They didn't have the rice ready which was disappointing. We waited a good 15 minutes for the rice and by the time it came out I was almost full. The food was great and all the food on the buffet were what you would find in your typical indian food buffet line. My only complaint was the rice pudding which is my favorite. I like mine just plain and they put way, WAY too many spices in it. It was so disappointing as this is what I look forward to at the end of my meal. read more

This place has great samosas; they were just about perfect. I also ordered the butter chicken (it's my go-to for Indian restaurants), but it was subpar. I tried ordering from them online via Grub-hub for takeout. The order went through, I called the restaurant to be sure they weren't closed due to Covid-19. And they didn't pickup, but Grubhub indicated the order was being prepared and in the works. So I just waited for pick up time, drove there; and found the restaurant empty. BUT they HAD a sign that indicated they were open for takeout during their regular hours. BUT THEY WERENT OPEN, no one was there. Why would you advertise that your restaurant is open for takeout when it is not open? I don't understand. Wasted 2 hrs of my time. Furthermore I had to contact Grub-hub since my order was processed even though they were closed and not taking orders. Thankfully Grub-hub gave me a refund. Why would you not contact the company that you're closed? An why would you process the order when you are not there? Very upset. Sad this is the only Indian restaurant around here. read more

I was really hopeful to have a good Indian meal after a long time of not having access to Indian food. It was fair at best. The flavors were very limited and all well- very similar. I am guessing the owners are dedicating their time and presence to their El Paso location. Don't get me wrong the food is not bad it's just not authentic at this time. Horrible experience. I was super hungry, two hours past when I should have ate. I was on my way to alanberto's when I noticed the india hut open with a buffet. figuring a buffet is faster I went there. I sit down. No one greets me. No one hands me a menu. Servers wouldn't look at me. The owner tried handing me a bill when I had not even ordered yet. I sit there like an idiot for eight minutes waiting for someone to hand me a menu or offer water. I left. They wasted my time when I was already on a time crunch. People that walked through the door moments before myself already had their drinks and ordered. Had the lunch buffet and tried a little of almost everything. Some of the food doesn't taste very authentic: the lentils tasted like refried beans for example, and the shredded chicken, although delicious, tasted like what you might find inside a taco. Vegetable dishes were really good though, as were the onion pakoras. The rice was fine and there were two kinds of Naan, regular and garlic. The latter was definitely strong enough to ward off vampires. The price ends up being around $13 a person which is not bad for a filling meal with dessert. In sum, the best thing about India Hut is that it isn't the 147th Mexican restaurant in Las Cruces but if you have a real Indian food craving you will still need to drive to El Paso. read more

My husband and I have been waiting patiently for this little restaurant to open. By chance, we drove by this evening and found that they were! SO glad we went in. The garlic naan bread was amazing and some of the best we have ever had. We both ordered Chicken Tikka Masala which was marinated and prepared perfectly. The sauce was creamy and just a hint of sweetness to make this a 5 star meal for us. The Basmati rice again was cooked to perfection and the mint chutney has just the perfect dash of lemon!! This is NOT a fast food restaurant and the ambience is not the best but the staff is friendly and the food is excellent quality, everything will work out in time. We are so happy to have you in Las Cruces and hope you are here to stay. To rate this restaurant on anything else prior to a grand opening is just silly! Placed an order via DoorDash on a Saturday afternoon. Had an estimated delivery time of 6:10pm. At approx 5:45 (after waiting 41 minutes)..I received an email that my order was canceled. Good thing I got a phone call from a friend because that's when I saw the email notification. A phone call from DoorDash would have been nice considering the situation. For some reason, India Hut is accepting orders on DoorDash despite being Closed..WHY ARE THEY ACCEPTING ORDERS IF THEY ARE CLOSED? Google says OPEN until 9pm. Called the restaurant and it rang and rang. Now we have to wait another hour for delivery from a different restaurant (NOT using DoorDash). If India Hut doesn't have the sense to notify DoorDash they are Closed, or to have an outgoing message they are Closed, which is something so simple to do, then how do I know they take time to do other simple things, like washing their hands before they prepare my food? BTW..if you call DoorDash you get an outsourced customer service rep who continually reads from a script and talks over you. It's like running on a hamster wheel. I will NEVER order from another restaurant that uses DoorDash. So unprofessional. Good thing we cook more than we order. I will not visit India Hut and I certainly will never attempt ordering from them again. Especially after reading reviews (sadly I didn't do this until now) that it is lacking in flavor. Indian food is all about flavor and warm spices! Really sad to continually see "good for Las Cruces" and not simply GOOD! I also don't like that your only lunch option is a Buffet. I've ordered delivery from here twice now and it's ok if you're having a craving and don't want to cook. I recommend the chicken biryani and the samosas. I have also tried the chicken tikka masala, palak paneer, and lamb vindaloo. If you like your chicken tikka masala on the sweet and very creamy side, you'll like it. I wasn't bowled over by the latter two dishes either, but the lamb was well cooked and very tender. Overall, however, the spices in everything except the samosas are very muted and could do with being amped up. I haven't had a problem with the timing issue other people have had. Really, really fantastic food! Service is slow, but I suspect it will improve after they have more time to adjust to the demand and hire some more help. In the meanwhile, unless you are going in for the buffet, give yourself a couple of hours and bring some quality company to enjoy this delicious food, that way you won't get frustrated with the wait. The young woman who works there is very helpful and happy to make recommendations or give you advice on the best way to eat new foods you might not have tried before. We had the samosas, which were wonderfully crispy on the outside and that were served with a spicy chutney that I wish they canned so that I could take some home with me. We also got the chicken tikka masala and the kadai chicken (per the server's suggestion) as well as some regular naan and butter naan. The two main courses were served family style, and my boyfriend and I shared them. We had tons of leftovers by the time we were finished. We could have easily split one of the main courses and walked away perfectly content. The main course was served with complimentary rice. We will probably need to make a little more at home to get through our leftovers, but it is cooked well and tastes delicious. We will definitely be returning (we especially want to try out the buffet). We both have high hopes for this place and have been enthusiastically waiting for it to open. read more

Got the buffet, which by itself doesn't warrant a 1 star rating, but it was nothing to ride home about. The reason for my rating is due to the service. The buffet was out of naan when we arrive and we asked if more would be served before we sat down and the hostess assured us it would. Mid way through the meal I asked when the naan would come out and she said they were having problems with the stove. After the meal, which we ate slowly intentionally, there still was no naan served on the buffet, however a Uber eats delivery checked out before us and had a large order of garlic naan. This was pretty good, especially for the price. Their menu looks pretty diverse, with veggie options, and my friend and I enjoyed the non-veg sampler from the front of the menu. Perhaps the worst thing was the wait. We were seated immediately but waited fifteen minutes for beverages. We received those and had to ask for a refill. Then we ordered the food and waited another 20-30 minutes, and when it arrived, it was given to two older men behind us who hadn't even ordered yet. Otherwise, the different curries were good, as was the naan. The chai was also pretty tasty, although it IS pre-sweetened and a bit weak. (This suited me as I often have problems with chai.) The sampler also included a small dish of rice pudding and some fried veggies which were excellent. They have a lunch buffet that might be a better bargain to attend. The restaurant, like the Korean and Soul Food restaurants before it, is a small building so it may feel cramped when there are a lot of people. Parking looks limited. They do seem to do carry-out/take-away. It wasn't super spicy, and I don't know if you can order it that way. read more

The waitress Cindy was very cool, polite, communicative, positive attitude she tried to accommodate for people as well, as she could and that's exactly what you want from a waiter. They are the best Indian restaurant for miles around and we have eaten in dozens across the country. Service can be a bit uneven however they are very friendly. Food is well presented and spiced good, not overwhelming. The Curry is different according to the dish (many Indian restaurants use same Curry in vegatables and meats). The condiment bar is lacking many items normally available in Indian restaurants, Indian pickles, Tamarand sauce, chili powder, and others. India Hut is a true treasure trove to Las Cruces. In the afternoons they have $10 buffets, with a wide variety of food. The buffet is GREAT for vegans and vegetarians and if you wondering what the dishes ingredients are, the employees are happy to inform you. The garlic naan bread is the gem of this treasure. They make it from scratch and that is definitely shown in the taste. Sometimes after they make some, they'll bring it to your table fresh and hot. Eat it alone or use it to soak up all your lentils, it goes great with everything they serve. There's no awkwardness or pressure or stares that you might feel at other buffets. The food is amazing but the customer service is what always brings me back. They are more than welcoming, they make you feel at home.
