Hey hey... this place is really pretty darn good and if I could do 4.5, I would... I really vacillated between the 4 and 5 star rank because there are so many things that are right about this restaurant. But there is something missing...? Maybe it's just a wow factor. The food is solid and I've eaten at a LOT of Indian restaurants. Just mostly before doing any reviews it's pretty much my fave, just not a lot where I reside. I digress! Service was good we only waited a few minutes at the front before someone realized we were there and from that point we have been pretty well attended to. Waiter was attentive and its busy Mother's Day Holiday. The ambiance is nice, clean, comfortable, upscale, decor is mood setting, music is spot on. What is boils down to is the food... it's good, but is it the best Indian food I've ever had? Well, sorry no. The base flavor is great, but something felt like it was missing? The vindaloo spicy could be a LOT hotter, and it's got a lot of tomato. Usually when you have the sauces over time the spices just dance in your mouth and you get different hits of things and I felt like something was muted? The back end complexity I'm used to isn't there. But don't get me wrong-we will likely be back because the food is solid and a close enough drive. Great location. Maybe I'm being too hard? But it's one of my favorite foods. The boys loved the hearty large pieces of meat... I was less of a fan but saw their view point, e.g. more filling, less dry. The chutneys, kinda standard fare until you get to that spicy one and then WOW! That's amazing! We got a mild, medium and spicy leveled sauces. For your average foodie that doesn't eat "spicy" food I would say it's spot on... for someone who is looking for something nuclear, how do they request that?? Need to know how to order something REALLY spicy... bring the pain...!!! Barely broke a sweat on the spicy vindaloo and spicy coconut chicken... but tasty! * we talked about it on the way home and we were thinking maybe because it was Mother's Day weekend. There was high demand so the sauces might be a little young too? Might not have had enough time to really flourish and simmer. Naan was yummy and fresh. Chai super flavorful and rich. Lassi was solid great taste, not really chilled so if you are looking for a chilled lassi, just be aware... The other thing I noticed as far as service goes there was nothing that just came out with the meal. I'm kind of spoiled and that I've gone to Indian restaurants... usually have something served on the house like a papadum or naan bread or raita or rice with meal? Incredible food, amazing ambiance and friendly service! From the moment I walked in I was mesmerized by all of the beautiful decorations. Although it's in a shopping mall, you'll be transported to Indian once you enter the restaurant. We had a wonderful feast here. I was so happy to have aloo mutter which is my favorite dish and it was so comforting and flavorful. The sides of rice are HUGE! What an amazing experience! It was my first time trying food from India and it was an amazing surprise. I loved the flavors and textures. The garlic naan was so good you all have to try it? Soft fresh and with a light crisp. The fish was so delicious with its medium spice and the added sauces it came with. One was tamarin the other mint and they combined well with the fried fish. The coconut curry chicken was my favorite and the butter curry was good as well.. the fluffy rice was a treat with its texture and soft spice that made The service was great and attentive and the restaurant was clean and very well decorated. it so good. I'm back again.. this time for take out. I got cauliflower and potatoes, and lamb curry. I ordered everything "mild". But mild at India Oven doesn't mean tasteless, drab. No sirree. The dishes were flavorful and each had a distinct flavor profile. The cauliflower was cooked to a perfect doneness, not crunchy raw and not mushy. The lamb curry was delicious. The meat was tender and soft. The curry sauce was not boring. The size of the cuts were substantial and the serving had plenty of pieces. The interior dining room is uncommonly beautiful. It has a high end, style decor vibe. Polite, cordial service. Pricing is comparable to other Indian restaurants. The restaurant is beautiful inside with gorgeous lanterns, decor, a full bar, tables and a stunning "half-booth" style seat that runs the entire back wall. The seats are comfortable and plus-size friendly! This is, in my opinion, the best Indian food in the Sacramento area. We dined on a Sunday afternoon, so the place was not busy and we got to enjoy the music without the chatter of a bunch of people. The food came out fast, the portions were generous and our server was very friendly. Here's what we ordered: Vegetable Samosas: 5/5, very tasty and served with 3 types of dipping sauces. So with considerable deliberation, the best, convenient restaurant eating Indian Cuisine enroute to Placerville would be none other than India Oven located in El Dorado Hills CA via Latrobe and Highway 50. Please keep in mind, I have eaten at the India Oven Restaurant located in Vacaville CA via Highway 80, Arco Gas Station, and the Nut Tree/Vacaville Shopping Outlets, i.e., I'm quite familiar with India Oven's menu and Indian Cuisine. Plus, it's wonderful I have my daughters' personal friend, Guri who was born and raised in India who stayed with me at my SF Bay Area Townhome who cooked his wonderful Indian Cuisine nightly. I was truly spoiled and took for granted Guri would stay, hanging around my daughters for a few more years; however, the world needs Guri . . . My husband, in-laws, and I came to India Oven for lunch on a Saturday. My husband and I were planning to get the buffet and my in-laws were looking to order a dish on the side. After reading some reviews, I made sure to come on a weekend for the lunch buffet but I didn't know that they ONLY offered the lunch buffet during lunch hours on the weekend so my in-laws had to get the buffet too. The prices were a little higher than we expected for the buffet but overall the food was pretty good. We enjoyed the warm dishes but found that the finger foods were a little cold from just sitting out. They still had good taste but it would have been nice if they were a little warmer. The interior is beautiful without being 'too much'- really tasteful touches that all gave a nod to Indian cultures. We were there near close, so it may be that the food and service is better during busier hours (although I don't think being near close is an excuse for not great service or food). There were only several tables with patrons, but also several staff. All seemed to be doing closing tasks or hanging around the front of the restaurant. We placed our order, and the food came out relatively quickly (great!) Unfortunately, it was lukewarm, the rice was stale (dry), and we asked for 'spicy' on one dish and no cilantro and got mild and cilantro in it - totally fine if not having cilantro in it was not possible, but we would have preferred they just told us that instead of just giving us the dish with cilantro in it so we could have ordered something else. They forgot our garlic naan order so we waited for them to come by again to ask for it, but they were busy cleaning - so one of us got up to go ask for it and when we told them it had not come out, they just placed the order as if we had just placed an additional order (no apology and were petty dismissive of us). In terms of the flavor of the food - we were not impressed, but it was hard to tell as the food was not fresh or hot so hard to say if it was actually not flavorful or just... room temperature food. I've never been inside the restaurant so I can't attest to the indoor ambiance, however I have ordered online on a few occasions. After my last order, I won't be coming back. We ordered the tandoori chicken, for $20, we got four pieces of chicken and about five cups of onions. For the order of Naan, at $5, we got one piece cut in half. Not a basket of naan, but literally one piece. We also ordered the aloo gobi, while good, it was $20 for essentially cauliflower and potato in sauce. In addition, we ordered the lamb curry, which came in a very small container. The lamb meat was very tough and chewy, and should have been slow simmered for hours until tender as with any braised meat. The total cost of the meal after tip was $83. The cost was outrageous for a scant amount of food, I've been to many Indian restaurants in my day, typically a price that high would feed my family with huge portions and served family style with many condiments, with leftovers for the following day. The only thing that wasn't scant in serving was the rice, which I can make at home for free. The food tasted ok, but I definitely regretted the impulsivity of my decision to get Indian for dinner. The wait time for these scant proportions was over an hour, and we picked the order up ourselves. Based on the price and time waiting, the value was low. I understand that rents and inflation are high, but I felt the cost was not worth the purchase. I'm noticing a trend in EDH where the food is subpar in quality and scant serving size with a high cost. If business owners like at India Oven don't start to realize that people will stop coming altogether unless the value matches the cost, then they will likely go out of business. read more

We just walked into this place on a weekday. They were fully staffed with well mannered waitstaff ready to take care of us. The staff was pleasant & friendly. They even gave some complimentary Lassi to my 2-year old and were super nice to her. Food was good to taste. Quantities were sufficient. We overall loved the Goat Curry & Biriyani. I was standing outside in the parking lot, waiting for my date to arrive and we were planning to have sushi. Then, I got a whiff of Indian food in the air and it smelled soooooooooo good!! As much as my hunger was tempting me to be adventurous, I had to dial it back. In my opinion, when dining at a new restaurant that's known for packing the punch of spice and flavors, I gotta take it slow. App: Aloo Tikki Chat 3 wonderfully seasoned and spiced potato patties. I really liked this dish and it hit the flavor meter hard! As usual, really good Indian food packs the flavors and spices that I am still unfamiliar with, but that I absolutely love! Excellent start to our meal. Entrees: Classic Butter Chicken An absolute must when trying an Indian restaurant for the first time. This dish, over rice, is absolutely delicious! So much intense flavor! Baingan Bhurta: Tandoor roasted eggplant and wow. This is a new one for me and it was so well-seasoned. Visually, not all that sexy. But, the flavors are really intense and I really liked the switch up from meat to veggie. Jhinga Malai Curry: Not amazing, but really good. I would say, the shrimp could be seared and served on the side or atop, to keep the crispy exterior we all LOVE when eating shrimp. But, nobody asked me to help with the menu, right? The sauce was really creamy and has a nice sweetness, some sour, and of course, it's curry. It has a really nice spice to it as well. Butter Naan: Yo! Can I just order this and wrap myself in it? I mean, not the slices of Naan, but like, the entire Naan? I just wanna have a bath robe made of Butter Naan and eat it throughout the course of the day! Asked sister-in-law- to find Indian restaurant which had indoor dining, when we passed through June 12, three days before June 15, when all masking requirements phased out. Wife and I fully vaccinated March 19. Came here at their stated 11am opening time, only to find they weren't ready to open until 11:30am. Dined outside, as we were still taking precautions against dining indoors with lower vaccination rates in the Central Valley and higher new covid case rates than the SF Bay Area. Some central valley counties, including Sacramento, still in the red tier, let alone the orange tier, compared to yellow tier in the Bay Area. Ordered the $16.95 Baingan Bhurtha (eggplant), the $14.95 Dal Makhani (lentil), $17.95 chicken curry, and two $3.50 butter naan. Takes a good 20 minutes before our orders arrive. The egg plant dish is tandoor roasted eggplant together with English peas masala, the eggplants pulverized into a pulp. Lots of flavor and texture. The chicken curry is boneless chicken thigh meat in a creamy tomato sauce. Good amount of chicken, with the gravy mixing well with the naan. The dal is black lentils cooked in a garlic tomato sauce. Much more liquid like than the regular lentils I've had in dals in the past. The black lentils were also considerably smaller than regular lentils. Serving sizes were larger than normal for Indian food, but so were the prices. White basmati rice comes with the dishes. $70 after tip and tax added to the $57 lunch for three, very pricey considering two of the three dishes were vegetarian, and that naan didn't come with the meals, but cost extra. The outdoor roofing let in slants of sunlight. Safely outdoor dining, whiIe wearing a sun hat and long sleeve shirt. They grow enough raisins in the hot Central Valley sun, without me turning into one. Would I come here again? The high temperature was only 89 degrees. One week later when we pass through El Dorado Hills, waiting 30 minutes outside in the sun for them to open in 107 weather would cause me to go elsewhere. read more

We have been here a couple of times because of the easy location in the town center. We went in thinking we could do the lunch buffet, but that was only available on the weekends :( So we decided to just order dishes anyway. We got an order of butter chicken, fish pakora (YUMMMM) for appetizer, butter naan and goat curry. All of this came with rice too. Their quantity is very good for 2 people, in fact it was enough for us to take it home AND have it again for another meal. The taste of the food is very authentic Indian food and they ask you about the spice level which we told them we wanted medium.
