I've played Highland Springs a few times when back in town visiting. I like the course, the staff is always friendly and good. However, with the weather they have had in the area this spring, record rain and flooding, it's just not playable right now. They cannot get equipment on the course to maintain it. It would tear it up. The fairways are what the rough should look like. The rough it what out of bounds should be. I can't count the number of balls our foursome lost that should have been easy to find. Gnats, OMG. You open your mouth they fly in. Breathe through your nose and you suck them in. I have ringing in my ears and with the buzzing it was pretty distracting. 8 hours later when trying to go to sleep my wife and I both felt like we were still being swarmed. Our skin was crawling. It needs at least a month of normal to no rain to recover. It will be a good course again. It just needs time. I can say a complaint we had is they should not be charging full price with the course in this condition. There should be a significant discount right now.

That's too bad because this is a very nice place and my room was comfortable and well-appointed without being ostentatious. This eight story Art Deco building was erected in 1929. It served as a home for many businesses throughout the years. At one time, it supposedly featured one of the finest indoor mini golf courses in the country. Really? That was a thing? While you can't play golf here anymore, you can get a good night's sleep. Yeah, trains slowly rumble through town but they didn't wake me up. Ear plugs are provided just in case.

The bed was comfortable, the pillows were great, and there is a pleasant - enough restaurant and bar downstairs. Unfortunately, I would not stay here again because of the bathroom and housekeeping issues. The water pressure in the shower was so poor that it was difficult to properly rinse off, which became frustrating over a three-day stay. In addition, despite asking housekeeping twice, an empty shower gel dispenser and empty lotion dispenser were never refilled. Towels were replaced, but a Q-tip remained on the bathroom floor for all three days, which raised concerns about how thoroughly the rooms are actually being cleaned. Overall: lovely staff and a comfortable bed, but basic room maintenance and shower functionality need improvement.
