What a wonderful place for a tasty, hot lunch. The ICCA runs a 'luncheon club' on the ground floor, which is open from 12 midday until 1.30pm.
£3.50 gets you a traditional 'thali' style meal, essentially a few different bits and pieces served in a compartmentalised metal tray. This usually includes a lentil dish, a vegetable / potato / bean curry, basmati rice, some salad, a dessert, 2 chappattis, and water on the tables to serve yourself. Lime pickle, chopped mild onion and fresh chillies are also available.
If you need meat, you can pay 30p more and have a separate bowl with a meat dish in, usually a chicken or lamb dish. If you work in the area, you must give this place a go. Lunchtimes are usually busy, so a queue can form at the food counter where you are served, but it is usually quite fast-moving. The customer base seems to be made up of retired people, the local workforce, students, and Asian people. The food is always fresh and tasty, and although well flavoured, is never too spicy.
The Centre has rooms that companies / organisations can book out for meetings, training courses etc, when this kind of lunch is provided. Needless to say, I love taking part in courses here.
