IHC was my family's congregation for generations. My great-grandparents were part of the campaign to move the temple up north from 10th Street. My family has history here. That's why I was left so disgusted by my experience when I attended services this past summer. Congregants are only seen as a money source and if one is on a fixed income or poor, then IHC has no interest in including them. The current clergy and temple leadership are some of the most disingenuous people I've ever encountered. They say all the right things, reading from a carefully prepared script, but they don't mean a word of it. No one follows through at all. The "welcome" only extends to those with children to enroll in the ECC and deep pockets to donate financially. The security guard at the front door was the only genuinely nice people I met during my visits - and he's not even Jewish! Oh, and nepotism is alive and well at IHC! It's bad enough that the senior rabbi has toxic narcissistic tendencies, but his non-clergy wife inserts herself into services and various support groups, even though there are members of the congregation who could fill these roles. The pair even scheme to turn official trips, such as taking teens to NYC(?) into family vacations on the synagogue's dime. Your membership dues at work! Honestly, if this happened at any other synagogue or in ANY other organization, there would be legal repercussions. After speaking with people during post-Shabbat Oneg, I learned many people shared my discomfort but they're too afraid of angering the mighty RBK to speak up. My parents and grandparents always talked so highly of IHC. I'm sad to see what it's become and hope there is a clergy/staff turnover soon. I'd love to see it become the welcoming beacon of Reform Judaism I heard about growing up. read more

I don't see a listing for their early learning center but my review is about that! I can't say enough good things about Ihc. Both of my sons have attended their daycare and the staff and facility is top-notch. We had tried another daycare because IHC changed their pick up times after covid to be earlier and we could no longer get there in time. The daycare we switched to, St. Nicholas, had very high turnover in staff and their facility was often dirty. Im so glad to have our youngest back at IHC! read more

IHC has been my family's synagogue in Indy for multiple generations. I moved to Denver a few months ago, and miss IHC and the community I found there all the time. It's a place of community, warmth, and acceptance. The clergy is kind, cares, stands up for their values, and thoughtful. They are searching for a new cantor currently as their dedicated and talented cantor of around 30 years is retiring, and the two Rabbis, Brett Krichiver and Scott Fox, are truly some of the most wonderful Rabbis I've ever known. They know how to thoughtfully and meaningfully engage with people. The current synagogue president brings a mindset of inclusivity to IHC that I loved. My boyfriend is Catholic, and was welcomed and felt comfortable from day one. He enjoyed attending Shabbat services almost as much as I did, and found meaning in sermons and religious conversations with clergy. I was raised in an interfaith household and exposed to both Judaism via IHC and Catholicism. Even as a child and teenager, I felt welcomed and comfortable at IHC. As an adult, I have participated in the women's Passover seder, Friday night Shabbat services (especially Nefesh, it's the best!), IndyChai, the young professionals group, high holidays (FREE for members and non-members), various community services projects, and marched with other IHC and Indy Jewish community members in the Pride Parade. I have made lasting and meaningful friendships at IHC. I believe that no matter who you are and where you are in your life, you will find a place at IHC. read more

The only place of worship that charges families to go there and if they can't afford it, they don't allow them to practice their religion at IHC. All about the money and merely a place to say religion is practiced, but definitely not free. Elderly who can't afford to go are turned away and this is truly unacceptable. I'd give zero stars if possible. read more

Whattttt???? My synagogue only has three stars???? Oh no! One of the reviews advised that you had to pay to go to services, not true! Anyone can go to services! The only time where there may be limited access to services is during the High Holidays where, due to seating restrictions they issue tickets to members. If you aren't a member you just have to sign-in. Most synagogues do this. I signed-in for two years and attended regular programs for a year and a half before joining. The only time membership is required is if you are joining a group, like the temple sisterhood. This is the largest synagogue in the city and they have many programs centered around families. They have recently added an assistant Rabbi (Scott Fox) who is starting to do activities for young professionals too. Like any religious or professional group there are things that aren't perfect but IHC allows you to have as much involvement as you would like. read more
