I've lived in the neighborhood for over 10 years, and came to this place well before finally moving across town. The food used to be great. Now it's fine. But that's not my issue. My wife and I started a tradition of coming here on Valentine's Day three years ago. It started as kind of a joke, but when we discovered they give you a rose, we thought it was cute and would make it our thing. They've always given me an issue when I show up with my service dog, but they relent in the end. In fact, they convinced me to get a Los Angeles Service Animal tag (which I'm still waiting for even though it's been months). This Valentine's Day fell on a Saturday and the restaurant (as usual) wasn't very crowded. To my horror, the host/waiter refused to seat us. He recognized me as a regular AND in spite of that, went on to tell a tall tale that last time we ate there, customers complained and left. This is insane for numerous reasons. 1. The dog was under the table hidden from other patrons, so few if any people would've noticed. Unless they happened to enter or exit when we did (which is slim to none considering, this restaurant is never full). 2. She has never made a sound at this (or any) restaurant to alert others of her presence. 3. She is 25 pounds and black. She blends in pretty well with her surroundings. If this is how they treat long time customers, then I have no need to ever return. The silver lining: we were forced to step out of our Indian comfort zone and found a much better replacement: Star of India on Vine. Can we walk there? No. Is the food better? Yes. Is it more expensive? Technically yes, but we had so much left over from the 2 person Vegan dinner that it made for two meals, so yes. It was. What a shame. The express dinner for 2 is the best deal in town for two folk who love Indian food and are too hungry to delve into the very expansive menu they offer. For dinner time, we got seated immediately and the server gave his best recommendations for our express dinner. Food came out fast and so hot. Despite the restaurant having all tables busy, we always got phenomenal service. Our server anticipated that we would have leftovers and was so quick to predict what box we needed. We almost forgot to bring our food home but he made sure to catch us in the parking lot to reunite us with our leftover box. Incredible! We ordered a variety of items to share. My faves were the Mango Lassi, Matar Paneer, and Garlic Naan. The Mango Lassi was thick, sweet, and refreshing. The mild Matar Paneer was aromatic and creamy with a hint of spice. The fragrant and lightly-toasted Garlic Naan was good as is, but also made a great vehicle for the Matar Paneer. Before I started reviewing on Yelp, I had dined at India's Restaurant a couple of times already. I'm glad that their food's still yummy & consistent with my recent visit! I came back during my business trip to try their weekend buffet. I came on a Sunday and the buffet starts at 11am-4pm. I was sad the 1st time I came I missed the buffet so I'm glad I was able to try it this time. And it didn't disappoint. The restaurant was full with many patrons enjoying the buffet. They offer a great variety of meat and vegetarian options. There was tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala and 2 lamb dishes. The vegetarian dishes included aloo gobi, Chana masala, and about 6 different dishes. All the dishes were cooked mild but certain dishes definitely had more of a spicy kick that seemed to slowly increase in a good way. A basket of garlic Naan came fresh to the table and drinks were included. I think I was also offered champagne. All this for $19.95. Food and service was so great. Great deal, I always love an Indian lunch buffet. It was fine enough. I'm not super picky about Indian food, usually am quite happy. That being said, there are many other places around town where I have had better Indian. The Tandoori chicken and Tikka Masala were good enough. I didn't love the naan. Too thin and was fairly tasteless, not that I ever expect it to be packed with flavor, this was particularly bland. I couldn't eat the lamb curry either, way too gamey. Parking can be hard to find because the lot is pretty small, but there's street parking too. First, I love the variety you get here! There are a ton of vegan/vegetarian options, and a few meat options. When we went, there was chicken tikka masala, goat curry, and chicken korma (I think). Everything is so full of flavor and tastes great. You also get a basket of garlic naan. Service is also nice and efficient. My experience has been that Westside buffets have fairly mild flavored food, tasty enough, but nothing vaguely spicy. This place serves Punjabi cuisine. It was a mix of spicy and not at all. Kick but no burn. My friends liked the whole spectrum and one agreed it was the best one she had been to. The appetizers were excellent, a cold chickpea and red onion salad, the samosas were succulent, the fried paneer patties were something I had not had before. There were 2 different chicken tandoori dishes, a chicken tikka masala, a ground lamb dish I did not care for, And an excellent lean goat curry. The shahi paneer was so good, I had some for dessert too. There were at least 6 vegan dishes, including saag, aloo Gobi, black lentil dal and more. I ordered my favorite dish, Chicken Makhani (aka butter chicken) and it was pretty delicious. I am trying to do paleo right now so didn't have a chance to try the naan or rice. Though, I was dreaming about it! I like that the place keeps late hours. I mean, I wrapped up a night of dancing nearby with my friends at El Cid. Curry was really good. Very tasty and buttery. Meat is chewy and soft to dissolve in your mouth. Salad was fresh but the only thing was the stale rice. Tasted crispy. Also for the price of $20 they offered a lot of food for buffet. They also had dessert section of two different kinds along with the free naan, which by the way was so fresh out of oven and doughy.
