Sounds like an odd combo when you write it like that but these guys have combined the two (or several) arms of their business and seem to be making it work. This is a beautifully decorated salon - and yes they do have a red door! Walk into the shabby chic interior and not only can you have a hair cut or colour but you can also pick up a new cupboard, piece of furniture or a vintage bike. I like to think of them as sellers of beautiful things. Their range of costume jewellery is just stunning and they have a beautiful selection of leather bags. Now while I admit, I've never used their hairdressing services, I am forever peering through their front window to see what they have on offer in terms of quirky pieces. This place is definitely worth a visit if you like unusual and one off things - or if you just need a haircut!

Staff at the The Palladeum specialise in head massage (which let's face it, is half the fun of a salon visit). Your visit begins with a chat and consultation, then it's onto a quick shoulder rub which sets the scene for relaxing and 'me time'. Be prepared. If you weren't aware of the shoulder rub, it could be awkward! Owner Meshelle is great at what she does and often takes part in fashion week shows; also this is a Redke salon. The Palladeum's soundtrack is always outstanding, as they invest in specialist recordings. It ranges from reworked dance classics to somewhat ambient music that again encourages relaxtion. Open from Wednesday through to Saturday, with weekends being super-busy.

I went on a Saturday afternoon, and they were going full tilt with at least four stylists occupied, and people busy everywhere. I went for a wax, and had to wait 15 minutes past my appointed time, it would have been good to be notified in advance that they were running late. The therapist was cheerful, and went about her business professionally. I was impressed with the no-nonsense approach that saw the whole thing over and done with in under 15 minutes, and with far less pain than I have experienced in the past. So at the end of the day, I was in and out and in less time (including the 15 minute wait) than I would have been if I had of went to my regular salon. The waxing room is private, and is not an afterthought dog box like other salons tend to be. The table is positioned well in the centre of the room, with easy access for the therapist from every direction. It is nicely decorated, so clearly this is a central part of their business. I think they have just gained a new customer.

They saw my hair, took pity on me and within a couple hours, George and team had corrected the horror on my head and replaced it with everything I originally had wanted from the first hairdresser. I felt welcomed, I felt important and was treated like a queen. I walked out of the salon feeling like a million bucks.
