Infinity Foods is the oldest food coop in England, and is a food importer in its own right, though for fresh food it works to cut down as many food miles as possible. The shop itself has recently expanded, and as a result is much more modern and much easier to get round, with more tills as well.
The cash and carry element is really interesting. Neighbours, or any group of people, can get together and place a bulk order, delivered to one particular place. The group who've placed the order then have the responsibility of dividing up the foods delivered, and seeing that its equitable.
When I was a member of a group like this, people took it in turns to do the order. There was always a bit left over at the end, and so the person doing the work was entitled to that.
