HM's representatives were great and very accommodating; they showed up on time and kept us comprised of the progress at each point along the way. Plus, the workmanship was excellent, and we are extremely happy with the result. But what distinguishes Hamish Murray from other good contractors is his honesty and integrity. About a year after the end of the project, I contacted them about leakage through a new retaining wall. Hamish himself came out to take a look. He decided it needed to be excavated and waterproofed, and that a drainage pipe should be installed. Moreover, he is doing all this new work for free, because he believed it was a mistake on their part not to do it during the construction period. Now THAT'S integrity! I would give them 10 stars if I could.

Fast forward 20 years and we reached a point in life where we could afford to turn our place into what we always knew it could be. Hamish Murray was extremely flexible when it came to the bidding process and the various hoops we had to jump through to for the bank to finance our construction loan (check out Clackamas County Bank.) With Hamish Murray the price they quoted you is the price you're going to pay. While we made them suffer through countless change orders as we added mid-project upgrades, never did I hear that something was going to cost more than was originally quoted. I grew up working on wooden boats and old houses on the east coast, so often when I look at modern construction it doesn't feel like it has the same craftsman attention to detail as you'd see in early 20th century work. That's not the case with Hamish Murray. The subs they used cared deeply about their craft and you can tell in every corner. If something looked at all sloppy, it was redone without question or cost to me. Concrete was re-poured, cabinets were repainted - the level of quality assurance was what you'd expect out of a builder making their own home. Every morning as I have my coffee I feel like I'm on vacation in a fancy boutique hotel, but its my kitchen! Every night as tuck in the kids and lock up, I feel like I'm already in a dream. Hamish Murray made it happen, and we're deeply thankful.

We Recently had dry wall repairs done in our home prior to painting. Out of 10 dry wall repairs 1…read morewas overlooked. It was marked to be repaired but just painted and not repaired. The two Workman were nice and very polite. Usually on time However they did not pay attention to details and preparation before painting. Furniture was covered but areas that should be protected from the ceiling and wall paint were not sufficiently masked off or protected from paint splatter. Two areas on the living room carpeting had good size paint drops and looked as if the workers tried to clean the area but what ever they used, left the carpet discolored . There should have been better protection while painting. Also some ceiling paint splatter on pleated shades. Again they did not protect the area. One hard wood floor vent had paint drips in between the grates. Home owner was able to remove it with efforts. Business owner apologized for the incomplete dry wall repair and said he would send a different crew to fix. He Apologized for the carpet spots with no solution. Our advice is to instruct his crew to pay more attention to protecting the home owners areas that aren't part of the work they are hired for and to detail work around moldings, doorways , windows and fixtures. We had only one area of white woodwork that was painted, the stair railing. Result was satisfactory but not as well done as previous areas in the past. Homeowner chose not to have any other woodwork painted and is satisfied with that choice. The home owner was very prepared prior for the job to start, having moved furniture, light fixtures, wall electrical plates, drapes and obvious obstructions before the workers arrived. This handyman was chosen because he could provide both dry wall repair and painting. His bid for the job was fair but the completed overall work by his crew was below average more due to the painting including lack of care in the preparation and detailing. We are left to do lots of touch up areas around moldings, window and door casings, in the rooms that were painted.

He claimed to have fixed the deck support but all he did was place one of our landscaping rocks under one corner which we could have done ourselves. Attached photos show the end result that he left us with. It seems like it was due to bad materials more than lack of skill but it should not have been what we were left with. We reached out that night to let him know we were not satisfied with the work and and after some difficult and delayed communications, he did agree come back and make it right. two weeks later he replaced the deck boards again. This time it was done right, as it should have in the first place. We really appreciate his willingness to come back and correct the mistakes. We're happy with the re-do but probably will not hire him again due to this negative experience overall.

Without any kind of response one way or another I had to assume they were coming, and sit around all day waiting for it to happen. Edit: I was finally contacted six days later and after posting this review. The business owner was very upset because of this review. They claimed I was lying, they threatened me with using slander laws against me. In the interest of full disclosure I will reprint all the relevant details of our communication and you can decide. Regardless, I am within my rights to write a bad review of a business that I feel treated me poorly. Even if I'm wrong. NOT FAIR that you have posted such things Business: We thhink it wise for you to delete the slander upon our company who are not your personal servants but a simple Service that you called for help but your schedule did did not match with the OPTIONS we only had available to you. I believe if you look at my original review and the communication there was not a single falsehood. I mentioned they said "tentative", but I also think their communication implied an appointment. You be the judge. They never refused me service, but honestly that would have been preferable. I never treated them like they were my "servants". I've worked with enough handymen and contractors to know that sometimes jobs aren't a fit. But setting an appointment, even tentatively, then never communicating again is unprofessional, and I will write a review for that.
