All the staffs are friendly, can speak english very well and trust me, it's a very different experience compared to VHS, i'm talking about the registration part.. Goethe Institut is definitely the place to go if you have more money to invest on your german language skill!

Most of the students were PhD students and postdocs with fellowships to study or carry out research in Germany. The teachers genuinely care that you learn to speak and communicate in German. They really took an interest in each student and helped the entire group to make progress. In the class time alone I learned a ton and the homework really was just extra practice for what we had done in class. I was in between levels when I took the placement test and teachers were willing to let me attend the higher class. At other schools, I've had to return to the lower level which is really boring when one uses the same book a second time. It was great to have my wish to try the higher level respected (if I hadn't been able to catch up, I could have easily dropped back).

Highly recommended. The area is exactly as described on their website: peaceful but still in an urban area of Frankfurt. Great environment for anyone wanting a high quality & inexpensive language course. Staff are also helpful & friendly. Their custom-made "course-books" are the best out of all the language books I've had to use so far. I would love to go back and continue with the next course, but am now living in Berlin. For some reason their partner, Tandem Berlin, in Friedrichshain, charge nearly double of what this Frankfurt branch charges.... (thought it should be the other way around). Looks like I'll be enrolling in a mediocre VHS course....

When I was looking into a language school, only the Volkshochschule had lower prices per hour and most reviews of these courses are pretty negative. One of my instructors explained that, although the prices are student-friendly, the instructors are also paid better than in many schools because the goal of the school isn't to make a huge profit for the owner. The morning classes are 5 days a week and the afternoon classes are 4 days a week. Each day is split up into two 1,5 hour sections with a 30 minute break in between. Typically, a different instructor teaches each session. I found the classes to be a nice balance between speaking and written assignments and, if you start from the beginning, their system for learning grammar and building vocabulary splits the process into managable steps. In my opinion, the teachers are excellent. They try to make the class interesting and enjoyable and are sincerely interested in helping you to learn the language. They are patient unless you make a habit of coming to class unprepared or unwilling to participate. Many also set aside time to come to the parties hosted by the school every couple of months or meetings outside of class in order to spend more time socializing with the students. Each week on Wednesdays and some Saturdays, there is a cultural program. On Wednesday, this is typically a visit to a museum or an afternoon exploring downtown Frankfurt or the Christmas markets. The Saturday trip is typically a day trip using Schönes Wochenende tickets. The only cost for this is admission to the museum or a share of the ticket price. I didn't find these particularly informative (it is not like a guided tour). However, it is a nice opportunity/excuse to visit a place you might not go on your own and an opportunity to meet people and practice casually speaking German outside of class.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR $$$…read more I am a certified teacher of over 12 years with a credential to teach English language learners in multiple subjects. This review is from a professional and personal perspective. This is literally the most DISORGANIZED system I've ever experienced. It is a business. Teachers change often. Students get placed into courses at random points of content sequence. So, you may be starting a new course but the instructor is already halfway through the booklet. They blend levels, so you may not even be placed at an appropriate learning level. New people will be placed into a 4 week course at any point. The office is likely unresponsive and when they finally respond you get responses from different departments and different people, so the conversation is never fluid. Please DO NOT take this course if you are sincerely trying to learn a new language. Most students have issues with the course content and their concerns are never addressed, online and in person. How it is structured (for online intensive courses): You are randomly placed in a small group of up to 16 people There are at least 2 teachers for each course The teachers can and most likely will be changed without notice You may join the course at any point in their content New people join courses randomly, even in the last week! After 4 weeks of fruitless class instruction, due to the office placing me in a A2/B1 hybrid course after only 4 weeks of A1 instruction, and several emails to the various personnel that respond, I will most likely look into legal options to get back my ~600 euros. They do not provide refunds even when there is documented evidence of their wrong-doing.
