I just have so many mixed feelings here…read more.. The good: Staff are friendly and accommodating! Location is incredible, walk to everything! Prices are fantastic. The not-so-good: - Room service is only once a week. This isn't really a huge deal for me, but this place is just not setup and organized around this idea. For example: I was staying for 9 days but I only got 3 pouches of coffee? So I had to go down to the counter and ask for more every 3 days? You should have supplies for your entire stay. - You get to choose which day room service will come. I chose Monday and then...Monday came and went and...they didn't come. I told the front desk, and they came on Tuesday and did a great job, but this was right before I left so I didn't get to bask in the pristineness of it all. - Pillows are horrible. They are WAY WAY WAY too plump. See my photos. They are almost like cubes of pillow. Just as fat as they are wide as they are long. They hurt my neck so bad that I slept without a pillow most nights. No, I am not exaggerating. I asked the front desk about this and they were eager to give me different or more pillows, but this doesn't solve the problem as all the pillows in the whole facility are the same chonker-shaped plumpboiz. (that sentence ain't gonna age well...) They need to get some slimmer/flatter pillows! All pillows in in the whole dang facility are carbon copies of each other, so this issue is unfixable. - Parking is overrun. If you're lucky there will be one spot left. If you're not, you're going to have to use street parking somewhere. - There was a steak in my fridge from the previous guest. - Wi-Fi is slow and constantly boots you off. It's the type that has a pop-up window that makes you type the password, rather than saving the password in your Wi-Fi settings. I sometimes had to reboot my computer multiple times to trick this pop-up window into coming up so that I could re-type the exact same password I had typed dozens of times before. If you need to get work done, go to the library. The Wi-Fi here is too spotty and obnoxious. If you like thick, springy, plump pillows, I can recommend this place without uh...reservation. If you don't, bring your own pillow. Seriously.

The driver responded quickly and transported us from the Raptor Center to Fortress of the Bear. Along the way, he made several scenic stops so we could hop out, take pictures, and enjoy the views. You are picked up from the airport, taken to the lodge we're you are fitted for your overalls and rain boots, during this time your luggage is taken to your room. First night they will take you to town for dinner and will go and pick you up when you're done. They have a chef who prepares all the meals, believe me you will not be disappointed. We have fished with several captains and no one has disappointed us. We have always came home with a great deal of fish. The fish is filet and seal package there. When your trip is over, they drive you to the airport, your tickets are printed, your frozen fish is there, all you have to do is show ID and you're on your way. Using Martin's Taxi & Tours was the right choice for us for many reasons. We arrived by cruise…read moreship, Michelle picked us up from the cruise port, which meant we didn't have to wait for a crowded bus ride to town. Since we got off in the morning hours, this also put us in front of all the crowds to visit Fortress of the Bear. Michelle also took us to places that the cruise line tours don't go. Since she lives in Sitka, she can show you and tell you many things that those big bus driver's cannot. She took us to places where we could get great photos and see areas that were clear of people, showed us different neighborhoods and areas of town, this made for such a nice relaxing morning. Michelle then dropped us off downtown so we could walk around and do a little shopping. We wound up taking the bus back to the cruse port. Michelle can take you back to the cruise port though, if you choose. She is very flexible and will work with you to provide the type of tour that will work for you. What I liked most about this tour is that my dollars when to support the local economy and Michelle also gave us some tips on who we could purchase items from that would also support the local economy and people. If you are on the fence about booking, it's worth every penny to book Michelle for your own private tour of the island. You won't regret it.

As foodies the food was incredible! They were also very helpful for other guests with food intolerances/preferences. The bald eagles that visit were icing on the cake. We had a great time fishing and brought back a nice load of fish. The local processor did a very professional job. The driver,Rob. was so friendly and funny. He did a great job telling us information as we traveled, pointing things out along the way, slowing down so we could get pictures of some things on our way to the Eagle place and then the bear place. He stopped at Silverlake where we were able to see a whale in the water and get some pictures. In addition, he just kept us entertained all the way throughout and really moved us through each of the activities quickly and in a way that we learned a lot and enjoyed ourselves the entire time. If you are coming in on a cruise, I highly recommend booking an excursion through bumble.
