It sat majestically at the top of the hill, at the end of its long driveway. Not knowing much about the history, I stopped at the end and read the plaque outlining its origins. You can tell a bit about an accommodation's character by its guests, and the George House Heritage B&B is no different. As I drove up the driveway and parked, 4 guests were sitting, perched at the outdoor firepit, and warmly greeted me with snacks and drinks. The owner came out, and before I even checked in, we had spent hours laughing and talking. Once inside, the detailed attention to the house and the warm atmosphere was incredibly welcoming. My room was perfectly appointed in the period pieces of the house's history. For breakfast, Todd provided homemade pastries, as well as eggs, yogurt, and fresh fruit. The breakfast today was great, very fluffy, flavorful french toast, eggs, ham, fruit., juice, coffee. Viola says the french toast is extra good, because she makes the bread. She's now branched out into the canteen on signal hill, and it shows the same kind of care and deliciousity you find in cupids.

They were just finishing up two reservations, but they let us in. Right away, they treated us like family stopping by often to say hi and check in on us. Since they were about to close shop, they gave us what they had left- fishcakes, steak, soup, Caesar salad, and cheesecakes. To drink, we each got white wine. I had enjoyed a filling lunch at Ferryland Lighthouse so I chose to stay in that evening. Chris came home and warmly greeted me with news from the "Cape" where he works as a park interpreter. Cape St.Mary's Ecological Reserve is the big draw in this area and they are perfectly situated. The village of Branch is tiny and meals need to be taken elsewhere. Priscilla and Chris built the house to accommodate guests - their quarters are upstairs so they are true B&B operators. That evening I had my bottle of red and books and the other guests did not join me, but Priscilla and Chris did and we shared stories of travel and birds and I truly felt at home, comfortable. They make every effort to enhance your visit to NL. Chris was off to the Cape early the next morning and Priscilla served a healthy, buffet style meal with fresh coffee and juices. If it had not been solidly fogged in the next day i would have enjoyed the stunning view from that point above the Atlantic. The others checked out and I lingered to talk to her. It was Saturday, her day off as a social worker in Placentia, and she was relaxing with her coffee so we talked books, etc. If I had not been on a schedule, I would have stayed another night ... yet she and Chris take days off from the B&B business for themselves and the weekend was just for the two of them. So I visited the Cape and walked that long path to the edge .. it was raining, blowing and still foggy. I could see the gannets and hear them and I took photos without knowing what images I was capturing. I posted just two .. the experience was memorable for the weather, the number of us in the pouring rain listening to the guide in yellow slicker nearly shouting to be heard above the birds and wind and sea, gift shop with wonderful books, foodstuffs, postcards and Chris. He allowed us to change clothes, dry ourselves a bit then showed us the film about the site and it's history and importance. Not to be missed!

The home is built on 1800's, and such great touches of history is found in this home but with modern conveniences (e.g. Free WIFI, full ensuite private washrooms, fully liquor licensed) We stayed in Harbour Grace for the night as part of our Newfoundland road trip. The home is ocean front, great to sit on the porch, have some wine and watch and listen to the waves coming in and watch wildlife. We opted to stay for dinner where Lynne cooked us a delicious meal that included blissful apple& root vegetable soup, fresh warm bread, tender pork loin, salt water cod with a crumble of feta and some kind of amazing dressing, vegetable and potato side. Desert what hot sticky toffee pudding that was delicious as well. Everything is made from scratch and you get a great individualized experience. We reserved dinner late and they were able to accommodate us. We also had breakfast which was a mushroom and cheese omelette with bruschetta topping. Homemade granola fruit and yoghurt and she also had on the table homemade honey made with cloves and rose water, homemade raspberry jam & fresh baked muffins. All in all we had a wonderful experience and so happy that we stopped in Harbour Grace to visit this authentic and unique B&B.

I took the non refundable booking, never expecting a worldwide pandemic to hit. Although NO tourists from outside the Atlantic provinces were allowed to stay in hotels, this establishment still billed me the full amount for 4 nights and refused to provide a refund based on the fact that they could not legally provide the service they were charging me for. VERY Dishonest. DO not book this establishment. They obviously are too inflexible to provide a good stay. Also found out the "breakfast" part of the B&B is continental style left in a common room. This was our first time staying in a Bed & Breakfast. We had room 4 which was described as a regular room with queen size bed. The bed was more like a double & the bathroom is quite small but given this is a 130 year old Victorian house it's understandable. There's a ceiling fan & AC unit in the window to keep the room cool. Wifi & breakfast are included in the room cost which was totally reasonable. Chain hotels were asking for much more & don't even include breakfast nor were they close to downtown. Hubby & I enjoyed our stay at the Balmoral Inn. If we ever come back to St. John's we would stay here.

Also it was really great to have the free wi-fi. I had a great stay, keep up the good work!
