The more I thought about it, I would be upset if my experience happened to another couple. I'll be honest, if I could give them a negative review, I would. Let me just start by saying that I was super excited to use this company to get married. Like everyone else, Covid19 changed our wedding plans, so we opted to get married on the canal and only have a few family members there. We booked our date (5/20/20), paid our fee (on 5/4) and received our confirmation email and text. Due to the courthouse being closed, we had difficulty getting our license, we called & text IWD several times (5/14), but never received a response. In the end, we were able to get our license, we called and text again to give an update, but no answer, no reply. The day was getting closer, but we had not heard a single word from IWD since the initial call when we booked everything. We started getting nervous that something had happened and we started looking at other options and started calling/texting IWD again. After the seventh or eighth call, we finally got a hold of someone, on 5/19. The office manager, Shelby and the owner, Angel, assured us that someone would be there, as planned, on 5/20 at the spot they set up to meet us at. The owner, Angel, personally assured us that someone else would be there since she was supposed to do the ceremony but was dealing with some personal issues. We were given an apology for the lack of communication and a family emergency excuse. No worries, we would still be able to get married. Family flew in from out of state and showed up...we drove to the canal and waited, and waited, and waited. We called, text, emailed - but no one bothered to reply. We all waited on the side of the road, dressed up, family waiting in cars and on the street, but no one from IWD bothered to tell us that they weren't coming. Eventually IWD did reply to a text, advising that they were still trying to find someone to show up, but that the "best they could do" is marry us the following week. I requested a refund, but they told me that they have a "no refund policy" - I explained that their policy is if we do not show - not that the company doesn't show up. I'm not sure if they understand the concept of getting married, you know, planning a day, having family there, etc. - it's not like we placed an order for food and they lost the order, it was meant to be a special day and their lack of professionalism was icing on the cake. We ended up using SAME DAY WEDDINGS - who, at the last minute, came to their office to perform our ceremony. We did not have the canal wedding that we planned for, but SAME DAY WEDDINGS saved the day and got us officially married. They apologized for the OTHER company not doing their job and potentially ruining our day. After several weeks, on 6/8, the owner answered the phone and gave me her family emergency story again, apologized and stated that she would issue a refund. A week later (6/15), still no refund and they still don't answer calls, texts or emails. I had to go through my bank to get my money back. If you're even remotely considering using IWD for your special day, run the other way and use someone else!

Because I and the several dozen other people attending the wedding plus the staff got to visit the basement because there was a tornado warning in the area, and we all had to seek shelter. Whee! The staff at Black Iris were pros, though, and made sure everyone was safe and calm. They made a stressful situation into a (kinda) fun situation that everyone will remember forever. Anyway, the basement is large, but so is the rest of the space! And it's beautiful and tastefully decorated, with lots of antiques and mirrors. We never really got to go outside because the wedding was happening during severe weather, but from that little I saw, the grounds were beautiful too. Also, the food here was some of the best food I've had at a wedding. I'm not sure if the food was from an outside caterer or what, but I want to say that it was in-house. And the open bar was nice, too, and the bartenders were quick and generous. I enjoyed myself as a wedding guest at this place. It was classy but comfortable!

I recently got married here and was unfortunately disappointed with the experience…read more The day of the ceremony, it was raining. the venue had umbrellas and told me there would be no problem setting up in the rain. however 1 hour before the ceremony, my coordinator told me that my DJ wanted to move the ceremony inside. On the flip side the DJ was pointing fingers at the venue- all of this causing unnecessary confusion and frustration to my family and I. I did use the venue's preferred DJ vendor. To make matters worse, I had paid for the prosecco truck to provide prosecco to my guests prior to the ceremony and this was not able to be moved to the front of the building to accommodate the new plans. My guests were still served the prosecco, but it felt like the cost of the truck ($1000) went completely to waste. During the ceremony, as I was about to walk out with my dad, the music stopped entirely. My guests reported that my DJ was being verbally unprofessional, using profanity. He ran out to my dad and I apologized, however I did not get to walk down the aisle with my chosen song, as his laptop froze... and had no back up. When we got to the dinner, the plated food was not the same meal from the tasting. I ordered the chicken with whiskey sauce, which was supposed to come with their "famous" carrot soufle, and it was not on the plate. This was annoying, but the food was still good. As far as the bar goes, I let my coordinator know that many of the guests enjoy vodka and tequila soda and to prioritize that on the bar. Twice, the bar ran out of club soda. The pricing was also very odd for special bottles. We were charged about 3x the normal price for the bottles, which I had assumed to be the case (similar to ordering at restaurants etc) however my dad was charged an additional 30% service fee for his bottles, that my mom was not charged for her bottles. we also did a late snack, and wanted order from chick-fil-a. Price transparency here and honestly for the alcohol were just absent. They make you place your order through them and they charge about 400% increase in price. I got 4 large trays of chicken nuggets and it was $3,300. When I went to chick-fil-a website to order, it was around $800 for the nuggets and sauces. Barf. I felt like this should have been disclosed when I brought up the idea. it was not. but it's their job to make money off you. I sent them an email with constructive feedback and kindly asked for money back regarding the issues above, namely the ceremony as this was the most important part of the day, and have not received anything back from my coordinator. As a bride, I am frustrated with the amount of money I spent here for the day to go perfectly, and it did not. Therefore, I simply cannot recommend this venue.

My husband and I are "go with the flow" type people, which can be great, but isn't always the best when planning a wedding. We tend to procrastinate and put things off. Megan was our saving grace with keeping us on track with the tasks we needed to accomplish, as well as taking stuff off of our plate and handling it herself. Through the entire year of planning our wedding, she went ABOVE and BEYOND what was asked of her. She made the planning process much easier and my husband and I did not have to worry about a single thing on our wedding day.
