Much capital and care has been invested to restore century old buildings to their former glory. Small shops, cafés, bakeries and ice-cream parlors abound. What we're missing here are modern, more metropolitan style, entertainment opportunities, bars and restaurants (like the Cuxhavener Kaffeerösterei or Unikat near the train station) that invite to stay longer and make life and spending money for visitors easier by using modern credit card technolgy (SumUp.de) and WiFi. It comes across as a carelessness or arrogance to stubbornly demand cash from customers as the only means of payment - especially international guests visiting from afar. But it's not just tech that makes customers happy and increase revenue. Open mindedness and friendliness is the real key to attracting and keeping new customers. A social skill many in this town need a crash course on, if they are to step up to the growing demands in our changing world. A slow death can be witnessed by outdated and superfluous shops offering "stuff" nobody needs or can order online. There seems to be a general stubbornness to change and open up to a younger clientele and modern ways of life. What Cuxhaven needs are visionaries (gimme a nudge, I have a ton of ideas). A dream of how you would like to see your city in 25-50 years? Because if you don't have a plan, someone else will and you probably won't like it. So step up. This diamond in the rough has potential. Go for it! Much room for improvement. Therefore only 3 stars.
