Don't part with any money before taking up the offer of a trial class with this organisation. I…read morefoolishly paid an upfront registration fee for my child during the summer holidays when the "Club" offices were closed with nobody available to ask for a trial class. Immediately they reopened I phoned and said that I wished only to do a trial class at this stage. They banked my registration cheque the day AFTER I informed them of this, and then refused to refund it to me the day after the trial class proved unsuitable, on the grounds that it had already been paid in to their bank. Their responses to my emails seeking a refund were tardy and surly. As to the class. It was unsuitable due to distance travelling. But it was just "OK" and no more. It was amateurish and set up in a makeshift way in a church hall. There was little attempt to welcome or put the children( at ease about 15 in a class) and of the one hour about 15 minutes were "freeplay" and a bit of a waste in such a short time frame. An expensive "solution" to exposing your child to french and nit really much fun. Getting together with francophile friends if you have them probably better! And then why not buy some of the great french language song tapes available online and watch Pepper Pig in french online!

Having witnessed Stella´s immersion method through attending her weekly lessons and through the results, I would thoroughly recommend CPP. Stella really cares about her students and is a hands-on experienced business founder. I would also like to highlight that CPP´s method works for non-native french speakers as much as for native families. There is so much originality in the teaching content, that continually has the children´s attention. For my children, French is a third language and is not spoken at home. Hence their progress is noteworthy and very much to CPP´s credit.

The place is nice in the kind weather, but seems like such a grey campus for being so close to several nice squares (especially Russell Square). The quad area outside of the main building is a nice place to dodge errant tennis balls being thrown around and take a seat on the green grass. Eat a sandwich if you want to. No one's pressuring you to not eat your sandwich wherever you want to eat it. You can eat your sandwich standing or sitting, no judgement here. Speaking of food, outside SOAS there is a vegetarian krishna food table that gives away lots of food for free every day. You can just stroll on up to it (or the que) and they give you a huge plate of food. Based on every single person telling me they didn't like it, though, I'm staying away from there. To some people, free is free so you might want to try it. The area around the aforementioned Russell Square is my favorite part of Birkbeck rather than the area around the main building. My classes are 3 hours long, so when there is a 20 minute break in the class, we all stroll out into the square and grab some grub at the Russell Square Cafe. It's incredibly peaceful. I like donuts. Birkbeck's main building has a cafe on the ground floor, but the prices aren't so good. So I'd recommend bringing food onto campus (Russell Squ cafe is also a bit pricey). There are many coffee shops leading up to the school. That's another thing, Birkbeck is in the center of London, easily accessible via underground by way of the Russell Square and Goodge Street tube stations. So if you're looking for a centrally located school, LOOK NO FURTHER. Stop looking. I take classes at both London Met and Birkbeck; and everything at Birkbeck is so much nicer. BUNAC was the only way I could possibly move and work in the UK at that time. I got myself a 'proper' job and started to work at a PR agency. For those looking for casual or fun jobs, I know BUNAC's job finding services were great. A lot of people I met during my time there found jobs through the job posting boards, etc. One of my favourite things about BUNAC was the pub meets; it's where I ended up meeting some of my friend - who I still keep in touch with now, nearly 4 years later. They were truly the best! It was great to visit little pubs that you might not otherwise visit, and to meet others abroad who are in the same situation as you. BUNAC has great programs and I highly recommend them for working abroad... (I know the requirements have since changed, and the exact program I went on is sadly, no longer available) - but do look into them if you'd like to go to the UK, Ireland, Australia, etc....

For a fee of a few hundred dollars ($300 in 2004, appears to be $400 now), BUNAC secures a work visa which allows Americans 6 months of unrestricted work in the UK, and provides assistance with setting up bank accounts (shockingly difficult compared to the American system!), finding flats and jobs, etc. I found the office employees to be tremendously helpful, and I've recommended the Bunac visa program to dozens. Go forth, and work abroad, Americans. The minimum wage in London is way higher than ours and you get VACATION TIME!
