Investment Planning Counsel - John Soutsos and Gus Gianias

My late Mother was John Soutsos' second customer when he started out in 1986. She did not know him…read morebut he was recommended to her by John's first customer whom I believe also did not know him. My husband and I began investing with John about 15 years ago. John Soutsos has taken the time to educate us about investing and explains everything that he recommends in patient detail. He keeps in regular contact with us without overdoing it. By reading the pulse of each of his clients, he determines how much contact the individual wants and does his best to fulfil that need. At times during the past decade of serious declines, he has encouraged us to not panic and he advised us to fight the urge to sell when values were low and others were selling. We have been very satisfied with his advice and have recovered all of the declines and our portfolio has been growing. I am retired and my husband is on the verge of retirement. We are well-positioned financially due in large part to following John's advice in both dollar cost averaging and in diversification. I have recommended John Soutsos to friends without hesitation. He is the consummate professional. Yes, I am a fan.

He doesn't charge any meeting and consulting fees, which I love, and his costs are embedded in the investments so that we don't have to directly pay out of pocket for his services. There's really no reason why all families shouldn't have a financial advisor. We met with a few different ones, but Gianluca seemed to know and understand far more, especially on the investments side. You can tell he really loves what he does - which makes me feel all the more comfortable with him. Would definitely put him on your list of advisors to meet with before you make a final choice with any other advisor!

Parama is the best kept secret in banking in Toronto!!…read more Why would you continue banking with one of the big banks when you can get all this from Parama for free, on a clear conscience? It's a small, community based credit union, and of course you have a say in how it's run. And also you get returned a share of the profits! In 2013, they returned something like $250,000 to their members. I originally signed up to this bank because I saw a sign that said they offer free chequing while passing by on the Bloor night bus. I think one of the reasons that this place is a secret is because the hundreds of thousands of people passing underneath it every day don't see this sign. Here are some of the things you get for free that you don't get anywhere else: -Free certified cheques and Money Orders (!) -Free regular cheques -Free pretty much everything else! -Teller service, if you want it -Free use of The Exchange ATMs across the country; you probably have one around the corner and you don't even know it yet... -Only $2 to use Mastercard ATMs in any other country in the world - that's cheaper than they advertise! Potential barriers: -Both branches are in Etobicoke along the Bloor subway line. I live in Vancouver now, though, and that hasn't really stopped me from enjoying their services. -You have to buy a $40 share to join. But you would get the money back if you wanted to leave.
