My father…read moreis a retired insurance agent, so 4 years ago, I asked if he could help with my policies (home and car) after my previous agency relocated too far away. He found that I was way over insured in some areas (car) and underinsured in others (home, umbrella, etc). Since he was retired and now out of state, he didn't have the ability to handle it all himself. My father recommended Steve Palenscar (a contact he made in the past as an insurance agent) SPECIFICALLY because he knew he would personally work with me to get properly insured, not use a preset default from a computer program. Long story short: Through a discussion over the phone about my finances, assets, family, etc, we were able to personalize my coverage to suit my family personally, and I am now adequately covered in case someone makes a claim against anyone in my immediate family (umbrella policy). I'm not an insurance expert, but I am paying less from my combined policies and am actually better protected. Below is part of my Google review related to customer service received so far. Since change to this agency, I have purchased 3 cars and Steve Palenscar has handled just about all of the painful RMV tasks that I have normally had to deal with. That includes having one of his guys wait in line at the RMV to get my plate for me! The 3rd and most recent vehicle purchase is what prompted me to write this review. I purchased a salvage (aka. totalled) car from an auction in Georgia, and soon learned that getting an out of state salvage car legally registered in MA is quite an ordeal. As always, I have been able to email Steve for help and advice and typically get all my complex questions answered in a day. I was given a simple set of tasks to complete, and he will handle all the rest. I cannot recommend this agency enough.

Kimmi at Cavanaugh Insurance gave me the best insurance experience I have had so far. Kimmi went through my existing car coverage and gave me a quote that as 33% less than my existing agent with better deductibles and lower premiums. She held my hand and explained what each part of the coverage actually covered and what I would be paying out of pocket if anything happens. She gave me a choice to choose alternative premiums and fine tune my car insurance to my liking. She answered all my questions by email within an hour or so and we got everything squared away in ~2 days (with canceling of the old insurance company and signing the new one). This was all done by email, I never had to step foot in the office. This is one of the best car insurance experiences I've had so far and I strongly suggest giving them a try for a quote!

Without even asking the person I was working with (Stacy) reviewed my policy and looked into the rest of my coverages and she made suggestions to me that saved me money. I thought that was really cool. I won't go into the several things we did and as of this writing, I am not sure of the final total $$$ I will be saving over the 5 autos, but it is estimated at $300 to $400 for the year.

I switched to Progressive in April after being referred by my fiancé because they quoted me a rate…read moreof around $110/month. I was told it might increase slightly after underwriting, but with a clean driving record for nearly 10 years, I wasn't concerned. Instead, my premium jumped to $673. The increase happened because Progressive automatically added my parents to my policy simply because they live in my household--even though I clearly stated during the application that no one else drives my car, the vehicle is solely in my name, and my parents each have their own vehicles and insurance. What frustrated me most wasn't just the increase--it was the lack of communication. Progressive withdrew nearly $700 from my account without ever calling me or sending a clear notice by mail. They claim they notified me through emails and my online portal, but important changes like this shouldn't be buried among dozens of routine notifications. When I called, the underwriting representative was dismissive and even disconnected the call when I asked for a supervisor. Thankfully, the supervisor I eventually reached was kind and helped correct the issue. I'll keep my policy through September since I've already paid for it, but I won't be renewing. A company shouldn't automatically make changes that increase someone's bill by hundreds of dollars without making every effort to ensure the customer is aware. My previous insurer may have cost a little more, but they were transparent, professional, and much easier to work with.

***Consumer Fraud Company*** Just scroll down these Google…read morereviews to read all these 1 star comments about this large scale fraud operation called Progressive. They engage in "steering" consumers to their "Progressive approved body shops" aka Direct repair shops so that the shop will do the exact sub-standard repair Progressive requests them to do. My son vehicle was struck from behind on an off ramp, the other driver admitted fault and was covered by Progressive. The very first adjuster quickly went out to look at damage to the rear of the vehicle, and stated they would have a body shop "just fill in the hole" on the plastic bumper. I advised that we would not do that, and we would take it to a body shop to have it properly inspected. We took vehicle to a wonderful, honest body shop, who is also an independent body shop, not a Progressive approved kickback business. The body shop inspected and confirmed the vehicle needed a new bumper and the exhaust repaired. A second Progressive adjuster then goes to the body shop, and requested the professionals to "just heat up the bumper, so it melts a little bit and then reshape it" because she once saw it done on a video. The body shop, Thank God... thought she was crazy and denied that request stating they would not ruin their reputation by doing such as substandard repair. Numerous phone calls and texts between myself and the adjusters and supervisors, half the time no response back, and Progressive agreed to replace the bumper, but refused to fix the exhaust, saying there was no evidence of the exhaust being damaged in the accident. My evidence was the exhaust was fine before the accident, and then the exhaust was rattling after the accident. The professionals as the body shop agreed it was damaged in accident, but Progressive still refused. In fact, stated that if we want to argue this point, they will just stop paying for the rental car we have. I have already filed a formal complaint with the NH Department of Insurance and will also be filing a complaint with the Attorney Generals office reference the substandard repair tactics that violate state law that states repairs must be done to "pre-loss" conditions. Hopefully, state regulators can get a hold of this bully run business.
