At the moment I'm in love with black and white canvas prints, Fusion Loft have a beautiful assortment of famous landmarks and Hollywood glamour prints including Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. Check out the range of chest boxes also. Parisian designs, Audrey Hepburn in black and white and many other themes; they're all just beautiful and a very crafty way of storing away unsightly objects in your home that have no other place to live. Dwell is the younger sibling of Tempted, a lifestyle store about 50m down the road…read more Where Tempted sells smaller more lifestyle oriented products (think photo frames and vases), Dwell stocks bigger household items like couches, floor lamps, armchairs and dining tables. Dwell isn't a high-end furniture store, but it's not competing with Fantastic Furniture either. It's a comfortable mid-range sort of store that is on par with the likes of Freedom (perhaps a little lower) in terms of price, but the stock is available in MUCH smaller numbers. If you want something for your home that isn't from the usual suspects like Freedom, Ikea, Plush, etc. without paying a fortune, Dwell is a great place to start. Oh, and should you see something you like but isn't quite right, make sure you let the staff know. They have catalogues full of things that can be ordered just for you.

I went in a couple of times, and even dropped off wall paper samples to help me match fabrics. I was so very disappointed that the owner never got in touch with me about the samples and helping me to finalise my choices. The staff were great - fantastic actually. They were so wonderful to me, but in the end I felt like the owner was too busy to spend time helping me. Feel sad, cause I was really looking forward to getting a couple of the pieces :)

A retro 70's inspired colour scheme seems to be evident throughout, with the soft geometrical shapes in hues of bright orange, lime green and magenta. The building seems to be some kind of warehouse conversion and offers a range of furniture such as couches, coffee tables and foot stools, as well as funky lighting fixtures, lamps and decorative pieces. Even if not looking to buy something Picci is still worth a look if you have time for a quick browse. The bright colours will give you if nothing else a hit of inspiration to take with you on your day.

At first I was very excited to discover Fanuli opened up in Melbourne. It appears to be a high end…read morefurniture store, but it is far from it. The only thing high end is the price tag. We ordered a bedroom collection and 3 months later when it finally arrived they had sent the wrong furniture! It took a month before anyone could even tell us when we would be receiving the correct furniture. Finally the owner contacted us and was beyond rude and patronizing, had zero empathy, and could care less that we were sent the wrong furniture. So now we have to wait another 3 months to receive the correct furniture and they have already charged us for it. What started as a positive experience at first because the people who work in the showroom were helpful, ended up being the absolute biggest nightmare. Save your money and sanity and go somewhere else.

Living Edge is one of the few places in Australia where you can order originals of the Eames…read morefurniture collection. Thankfully we are not talking about the cheap replicants you find in other shops. These are the real deal, manufactured by Herman Miller in the US. I purchased my Eames soft-padded management chair here. It took about 12 weeks for it to be custom made in the US and then make its way across the Pacific down to Melbourne. The order went smoothly and it was clear that the saleswoman was quite knowledgeable and made some excellent recommendations about selecting the right leather. The chair arrived the other week (just as I was promised), looked exactly as I expected and made my home office all that much comfortable. Living Edge's Richmond shop has a nice range of accessories on display (limited stock though, annoyingly most pieces have to be ordered from Europe or the US which takes a few weeks). The Living Edge is not a cheap store by any means, but they only sell originals. I guess the one advantage of buying in Australia is they source the Eames collection from Herman Miller and not Vitra which is the case in Europe. Luckily Herman Miller is a bit cheaper. Living Edge is a great store for anyone interested in browsing classic designed furniture originals, less so for those seeking newer and trendier collections.

We purchased a Fireclay sink, the external diameters were what we needed, no where on their website…read moredid it explain that there was narrowing inside, the reason we bought this particular sink is because the Fireclay sink that is in the kitchen doesn't narrow, which rendered the item we purchased from Schots useless. The first response we received from Suzanne Karras who is supposed to be their Customer Service Manager was "As you did not seek further information from our staff to find out if this sink would meet your requirements prior to purchase we cannot be held liable for the incorrect purchase made by you". She also included a highlighted section of their website that said "Never construct cabinetry without first measuring your actual purchased sink" to which we responded "we have not constructed cabinetry without measuring the sink. We do not appreciate you making an assumption and find it extremely insulting, and we ask that you refrain from making such claims" After explaining again that it was not advertised to have narrowing, we received from Suzanne Karras "We are at a loss to understand why this sink that you have purchased does not meet your needs." After explaining it AGAIN, we were met again with an insulting assumption "As the internal dimensions of the sink is not listed on our website, it is a shame that you have assumed that it would fit your special requirements of needing to fit a certain size dehydrator tray without consulting and seeking advice from our trained staff that deal with these products to ensure that it would be suitable." After many many failed attempts to contact Suzanne Karras, and even after a request to speak with the owner Neville Schot, we were then met with "I have spoken to the Director Neville Schot and he has asked me to advise you that he will not be contacting you by phone to discuss this any further." The lack of BASIC customer service, tact and kindness from Suzanne Karras and Neville Schot is disgusting. Buyer beware!!!! However, I would like to thank the young woman from their Clifton Hill Head Office and Jeanna from there Moorabbin show room. These ladies certainly know how to give PROPER customer service.

Multiple levels of decisions await you from knobs to knockers, furniture to fireplaces, tubs to tiles, doors to decor and so much more. There were plenty of staff available and importantly they were willing to help, even on a busy Saturday. If all that decision making leaves you needing to quench your thirst or stave of hunger pangs there is an on site cafe. I am yet to try it though.

For Tombo is an incredible Westgarth shop which specialises in 'Asian antique furniture and Japanese fabrics' and sells a truly staggering range of both. An almost warehouse sized space on High Street, Tombo is absolutely packed to the rafters with gorgeous vintage Chinese cabinets and benches and a beautiful range of antique Japanese kimonos. Also incredible? Tombo's exceptional range of textiles numbering some of the most beautiful antique crêpe de Chines I've ever seen. Sure, the staff probably don't have any books on customer service sitting at home but from what I've observed if you show a real interest in Tombo's stock its staff will show an interest in you. At around $1500 for a cabinet the furniture will have to wait, but I'll definitely be returning to Tombo for an antique kimono at some point soon.

The elegant decor of the shop combined with the beautiful display of furniture and furnishings makes the shop itself look like its straight from the pages of Home Living. I just purchased a black and white art deco coromandel screen, some plush, Parisian black and cream cushions and a Victorian lamp. They're making my living room look very sophisticated and elegant indeed.
