One of the WORST ERs from Idaho to Provo. Went in with a TBI & spine injury, the ER Dr. said; oh it's just an concussion & sends me home. Didn't scan my brain, neck, spine or do a body scan. Laid in bed with a broken neck, damaged spine, shoulders & hips. I wasn't able to walk or talk. This medical establishment/ hospital (DOES NOT CARE ABOUT PATIENTS)! They are all about the $, not the the patients! Went back asked for an orthopaedic surgeon & was told no. Told them my legs hurt, I cannot walk, so they drug me with sleeping meds against my will sedating me where I couldn't speak or function. Only thing they've ever done is ran bloodwork & do an EKG. If you're injured & seek medical treatment, PLEASE don't go here! More & likely they'll permenantly cripple you or kill you. read more

The review is to comment on the hospital's blatant greed and disregard for decent business manner. This hospital engages in the very despicable practice of Balance Billing. What this means is that even if they accept your insurance and your insurance agrees to pay them the what they consider the "fair rate", they bill you the difference between the fair rate and what they would like to get. This is a practice they extend even to their emergency room where patients even with good insurance may not have a choice in where to go due to emergency circumstance. Being a physician myself, I am well aware of these billing practices and find it unfortunate that Intermountain Hospital conducts business in such a way to patients in need of emergency care. Moreover, to add insult to injury they will send you to collections within 90 days if bill is not paid. Having worked in many hospitals I know very few that actually stoop to using collection agencies to harass patients and destroy their credit due to medical claims, this institution, however, has no qualms with doing such. When a visit to the ER is billed at $5000 but reimbursed at $2500 by the insurance company and a call to the insurance company returns an answer that this hospital is billing far and above the accepted rate, and the hospital goes after a patient with collection agencies for the other $2500, it tells you all you need to know about this hospital's priorities. If your care can at all be provided at another Salt Lake area institution, I would highly recommend it. read more

I would avoid taking anyone I loved to this hospital. My 27 year old son re had an asthma attack and went into cardiac arrest. He was taken to the hospital by a friend who said he was unconscious for 5 minutes. We now know his heart had completely stopped. He was rushed into the emergency room at the mur location where he was put into the cardio/pulm ICU. He was there for about a week then transferred to the neuro ICU. The cardio specialists told me that he had minimal brain damage and that they were waiting for him to wake up. They then sent him to the neuro icu where he stayed for about another two weeks. While there I was told by every neuro doctor that there was no chan of recovery that I should take him home to hospice and take his feeding tube out and let him die. This was several different doctors and social workers at that hospital. We refused to give up and after he had been infected by a blood poisoning and was well enough to be transferred we moved him to a Neuro restorative in Bluffdale where my son woke up out of his vegetative state that they said he had no chance of ever coming out of. My son is still learning to walk, but he can talk, he can now eat real food after 4 months of rehabilitation, and He has min brain damage , none that affec his IQ or personality. He has short term memory loss but he also has been on medication that causes that. So IHC your doctors should stop telling families to let their family members die when that isn't the only outcome. It's scary to think how many families you have led down that path. They pushed me hard everyday telling me he was a veritable and i should think about the quality of life he would have. The reason he was in a coma was partly bc they had him on fentanyl and other narcotics. the social worker was horr she was not working for my son but for what the hospital wanted and she uneth things that I still haven decided what to do about! Do not trust these ICU doctors on the 14th floor! The cardio/pulmonary doctors were the only doctors that told us any truth and gave us any hope, and thank God bc my son is on his way to recovery and I can't wait to watch him walk in that hospital and show them that they were 100% wrong! read more

Air several visits to the ER, I have to say it's a mixed bag, one visit I'm treated with kindness and compassion, ( I have ongoing cardiac issues) and the next visit I'm treated as though I'm an inconvenience. Today, I was taken by ambulance and was seen immediately by a team of professionals, I felt safe, then, like someone flipped a switch, I was ignored, forgotten, and when I eventually saw the doctor working the early hours, I asked questions, as is my right with my care, and he became incensed, almost angry, how dare I question the way they are treating my condition? ( not the first time a doctor in this facility has responded this exact way) then, I waited for a room since they admitted me, 12 hours..... on a thinly padded, extremely uncomfortable gurney, with little to no contact from the ER staff, but then, a room opened up, what a difference, the staff on the floor I was on was great! My procedure was as good as could be expected, but the care upstairs and in the cath lab was beyond my expectations. read more

Before I was admitted to Intermountain Medical Center as a patient, I received vouchers from a low-income clinic allowing me to come here for tests at a reasonable cost. When those tests came back bearing ominous results, I was immediately admitted. I wound up spending 32 days at IMC, and I'm not sure if I would have walked out of any other facility in such good shape. The nursing staff was generally great, with a few real stand-outs. My doctors from the in-house, world class heart failure clinic are fantastic, as are the pharmacists working in the coumadin clinic. When I had an unexpected reaction to my blood thinner, more experts were called, ultimately saving my life and limbs. When three weeks in a hospital bed coupled with a severe vascular wound left me unable to walk more than a handful of steps and I was stable but still needed help with pain management, they sent me upstairs to acute inpatient rehab, where smart and talented therapists, techs, and medical staff worked with me for hours each day. When I left, I wasn't merely stable, but actually ready to leave. Trust me, there's a huge difference. It's largely thanks to the Intermountain Medical Center doctors and staff that I'm going to get better, and I'm eternally grateful. read more

I came here to see a hematologist because my low blood platelet count. My young hematologist was very experienced and knowledgeable. She immediately knew it was a lab error because she has experienced this problem quite a lot. She explained how my blood clotted in the lab tube. Afterwards, she offered a different method to breakdown the blood clots. So they drew my blood and sent it to the lab. Since the hematology/oncology department has its own lab, I received the result less than 15 minutes! In the end blood platelet count result was normal. It was a such relief! Just a note, hematologist and oncologist are in the same department. read more

My children's dad, my ex husband, spent his last week of life on the 8th floor of the patients tower. The staff from house keeping all the way up to the specialized Dr.'s were wonderful people. They made our stay with extremely comfortable. They were all very compassionate, patient and caring. I will never forget the way they treated us all with dignity and respect. Together my wife and I spent 8$ on two made to order breakfast sandwich meals. I also got a kidney transplant here and the doctors are top notch. My only real and personal experience with this hospital was fantastic, given the stressful circumstances that made for the visit and what followed. Over the summer, my husband was involved in a skydiving accident and was transferred to IMC via ambulance from another medical location. He was immediately taken to the trauma unit until they were comfortable with this status and then admitted him to the towers. His trauma surgeon was Dr. Hillyard and was the very best, most comforting and thorough doctor I could have imagined. Unbeknownst to us at the time, he did major surgery on my cousin (his leg was cut off in a motorcycle accident) about 20 years ago and he's had no issues, and has never walked with a limp! Dr. Hillyard did all of his surgeries and follow up appointments, while admittted and once released from the hospital. My husband has no issues and has fully healed and is back to no restrictions, at all! From my experience, everyone at the hospital was kind, supporting and transparent with their communications, they even listened to the concerns we brought up with certain treatments and found alternatives that fit our desires. I am very thankful that we had such an amazing experience here and am confident we had the best care available. read more

Hospital food this one isn't too bad at all it's actually pretty good and it's pretty cheap.... the dining area is really cool and it overlooks the valley. I've had the double cheeseburger with tater tots pretty good and I've also had the turkey cheese on wheat with french fries you could skip that one lol the fries were better than the sandwich. read more

I came into the ER over the weekend and I was given medicine in my IV. I had a terrible side effect to which the nurse failed to mention could happen because "it hardly happens." While that was occurring registration came in. Dave, Instead of coming back a few minutes later while the nurse counter acted the initial medicine I was given in my I.V. with another proceeded to be extremely rude and force me to give him my Insurance information and other personal info. Dave seriously needs to be fired or at least be given some type of training for a better bed side manner. read more

I was sent to see Dr. James R. Revenaugh at the IMC Cardiology dept at IMC Hospital on 2-22-22. From the moment I went into the appointment which lasted only 10 minutes, I was treated very unprofessionally and as if my concerns were of no importance to the Doctor and his MA. She quickly took my blood pressure which was 166/85 and dismissed it as if it was not a concern. I had called their office the day prior to my visit to make sure they had all my EKG and Bloodwork results from my internist and they said they would make sure to get them. Then doubting that would be the case, I called my talked to my internists PA to give her IMC'S Fax number and send all the results. At my appointment the MA was very short and said no we don't have them, "Your doctor did not send them" and gave me another fax number which I then called my internist to make sure that they sent the results right away to the Cardiology office. The doctor then came back in and gave me a lecture on how my heart could not be the issue due to a ultrasound that I had 2 years ago and said I needed to wear a heart halter monitor for 48 hours and left the room. HIs arrogant MA then came in and handed me a list of 5 hospital to call to get a monitor. I could not believe it, my blood pressure was high, I had had am EKG, Bloodwork and chest Xray at my internist office and my condition was of no real concern to them. I was supposed to find my own heart monitor, go to the hospital that had one and have them teach me how to use it. To top it all off..... When I began called hospitals to find a monitor there were none available until NOVEMBER 15TH. I will never go back to IMC for any reason. My daughter had surgery there last year and it was a very disorganized situation. They insisted on giving her Ketamine post surgery which she told them would interfere with her other medications and had to argue with the anesthesiologist to use another medication. When we left that evening to take her home at 8:00 pm. we were given a pain medication and potassium prescription and told she MUST have them on schedule. But by the way they no longer have out patient pharmacies to fill post surgery medications at during the daytime or after hours. I was told to go to COSTCO. Maybe IMC needs to quit building and expanding and put money into their programs and training. Jolene Shields read more

I had major surgery two weeks ago at Intermountain Healthcare Center in Murray UT. Everything went well except I was only given 6 pain pills to use for the weeks ahead of recovery. I was told to take Tylenol and Ibuprofen to supplement the pain meds. I called the doctor and his nurse told me "tough luck". I have NO DRUG OR ALCOHOL HISTORY OR ADDICTIONS!! My pain was unnecessary, callous and bad medical practice. I hope the hospital rethinks it pain killer policy!! Sharon W. read more

Dr Holmgren was my maternal fetal doctor and refused to plan to come to do my scheduled induction of my baby because she "was a single parent" and couldn't commit Incase her daughter needed anything that week. She didn't even discuss my birth plan or bother to call me when another doctor there who was on call when she was on vacation decided I needed to be induced early. She didn't know that pitocin makes labor pains more intense and frequent and argued about it and refused to let me ask anymore concerns and interrupted me and got offended when I asked her how many babies she had delivered and suggested I find another doctor. Horrible bedside. Then another doctor who kept laughing and yawning recommended a c-section during labor but she didn't seem serious enough about her job so we asked if Dr Richards could do it at 7 am since it was close to shift change. They they didn't show up until 8 am when the nurse pulled out the water balloon ripening thing too hard and caused my baby's heart rate to stop completely and then we had to do an emergency c-section and I lost 12 times as much blood as normal and now my baby won't breastfeed because he was separated from me for 8 hours even though he was stable within an hour and they forgot to allow me to hold him or even touch him but allowed my visitors to see him before I even got to look at him for the first time. The NICU did many things to ruin breastfeeding even more like encouraging using a nipple shield and bottle and binky and they have a main Lactation consultant Rebecca who is rude and unwilling to help much and they have no one else available the rest of the time and no help on weekends or evenings, which is when we needed them most since I was finally allowed to try to breastfeed on Friday night. They just want to get you out of the NICU then leave it up to you to hire a decent lactation specialist who can fix all the problems they created. I want to sue them, but suing a hospital is futile since I can't afford a good lawyer. They denied everything and wrote up false reports about everything they did. read more

I would give zero stars if possible. My son was in an accident and taken to Intermountain Medical Center by ambulance. He was complaining about his back and about his elbow, which was covered in blood, and he couldn't move it. They said he did not need an x ray on his arm, and irrigated the wound, stitched him up, and sent him home. Once home, he was still in excruciating pain. He went for an x-ray, and an MRI and has two broken bones, torn ligaments, shifted cartilage, and received a lovely gift from this place as there was a piece of metal that fell into the wound when they cleaned him up, and stitched inside for safe keeping. For a level 1 trauma center, I am so shocked at the poor quality of care received. read more

They saved my life. I was transferred there for their trauma center after a bad car accident. They made sure I was comfortable and taken care of the entire stay. I was there for 3 days. The nurses were extremely nice, as well as the other staff. After my experience here, I told my family if anything happens to me again, I want to go to this hospital! read more

Considering that the hospital couldn't let visitors in or give you any possessions, they did a fair job. Some stand out people like Matt, a Neuro Nurse who came down to our floor did a wonderful job of making me feel cared for with a sense of humor. And Morgan, a wonderful young CNA was also very upbeat. I also felt trapped and uncared for by some of the staff the entire first day I was there, such as Ilhan (spelling). After a good job in the ER, I was transferred to my room on the 11th floor and left in a filthy state for the rest of the day and into the next. No one was available to clean me (I fell hiking and was in the dirt for an hour before rescue). The CNA said he'd come in a "few" hours. They wouldn't let me get up by myself, and no one came for hours to help me go to the bathroom or clean me up. The next day, 19 year old Morgan, a wonderful CNA, helped me get clean before surgery. One nice feature of IMC is at least on the 11th floor, there's a gorgeous view from the room. read more

The people at the information center were less than helpful, and I was denied entry to visit a family member after surgery because I wasn't 18. I understand this is a "company policy" however if your mother or father or brother or sister were in the hospital you would want to see them. My point is if you're young just don't expect to be able to see your family no matter their condition. I went up to see her anyways, they sent two grown men security guards for a small 17 year old girl. At least ONE of the men was compassionate. I would take away stars if i could or give them 0 stars. The one compassionate security guy was the only one who made me feel better about this place, and he probably doesn't have a full medical education. I was here with a friend who was in a car accident, he was in a lot of pain and yet was given no pain medication.. we were here for 3 1/2 hours it took 2 hours to get his eyes flushed from the airbag particals.. definitely horrible customer care.. they advertise quiet room but all you can hear is the staff at the nurses station playing paper rock scissors and laughing.. and yet still no one came I. The billing department dropped the apartment number from my address so I didn't get any bills. They didn't apologize, and all my other mail had the address correct. They sent one bill to collections without so much as 1 phone call. This morning I called to aske about the bill and they informed me that I had another bill close to $900. I was in shock. I called back this afternoon to set up a payment plan and the rep said I my bill was only $200. That is really unacceptable for a hospital as old as IHC, I normally don't take to reviews to post but this rises to that level. Hopefully someone at the "C" level will start to take an interest in bad practices if they are feeling the pain from poor reviews. read more

Love the hospital, but their billing department is a nightmare. I worked for over SIX months to get them to coordinate benefits on two claims. They sent them to collections twice. Finally, they got the first coordinated and it was paid in full. The second? They tried to claim it was our responsibility because of timely filing. They were forced to write it off when I proved that I had told them to file it. Most recently they billed a claim. I called to see if they had coordinated it. I was on hold for 45 minutes. They said they had filed it with the insurance. Called the insurance. They hadn't filed it. Called IHC back. Another 45 minute wait. This time they tell me that they haven't filed it. I have experience in insurance. How do the folks without that experience do it? read more

Every time I have had to come to IMC, I have received terrible care. The ER is enormous--75 beds--and the facility is still quite new. But patient care is horrific there and no better on the floors. Just finished an appointment with one of their urologists and it was a total nightmare of a goat rope. Staff here just don't listen. They have their say and their way and that's just all there is to it. read more

I had open heart surgery here a year ago and was treated very well by the staff. Everyone worked together as a team and I felt like I was in good hands. All of the ICU staff treated me very good, with the exception of one graveyard female nurse and a respiratory specialist on the same shift. This is the worst hospital in all of Utah. It is known in medical circles as the "Death Star". I was in a serious skiing accident and broke my arm and back and was in a body cast. When I was in the ICU there was a crazy nurse named Robin who tormented me and would not give me my pain meds unless I recited all the correct names of the pain killers. I complained to the head nurse there and she ignored me. I was then transfered to the Truama ward and some of them carried on with the gossip of the ICU. One nurse started stealing my pain killer called Daylatdat. I am not sure if that is spelled right. I complained to the top people at that hospital and they ignored my complaints. Being at this hospital was like living in an TV episode of "Sister Wives" It was a nightmare. Pretty hospital decorations can't cover the uglyness of what goes on the inside. Go to St. Marks hospital or Utah University hospital, you'll probaly get better treatment. read more

My wife is a cronic pain patient. We visit the ER at least every other month. Last night in her visit Dr. Whitaker deterined there was nothing they could do for her and said as he turned to leave the room "I would hate to have your life." GREAT bedside manner, my wife yelled at me all night because of it and I had nothing to do with his comment. THANKS IMC! read more
