Casually checked out the store wow I was on vacation in Carbondale. This place was a casual grocery store they had a good selection of various ethnic food items. This store is definitely a lot larger than it appears. And the last dial I don't know if the freezers are brand new or is that a new area they may have acquired but they do have a lot of stuff that is in the freezers. Stores prices were actually pretty fair too and the staff was pretty friendly as well. Not the cleanest Place either since it feels a bit outdated but it's worth checking out for a hard to find food items especially if the grocery store next door doesn't have it. read more

The only market in this area with anything remotely resembling Asian food! I'm very grateful. Even though it's really small, it has basically everything I need to survive. I found aloe vera juice, spring roll wrappers, pho noodles, etc. You would never be able to find that at a Kroger's. The man who works here is very nice and accommodating. If there is something you need, he will try to get it for you (even if it's out of stock). The only downside is that they have no fresh seafood, but that is something I can live without. This place is heaven sent for people from other parts of the world! read more

This place is awesome! I found dried boba (the kind I picked up cooks in just 5 minutes!). I picked up Roasted Green Peas by Kabuto--amazing. I loved these. They were crunchy and delicious (a great chip replacement). I saw durian popsicles, too. Crazy. There were great cheeses I never find at the regular grocery store, including Kashkawan (or Kashkaval) cheese...one of my favorites. I also found Thai tea, tahini, horchata mix, and many many other delicious fabulous things for me to experiment with. The guy running the place was super helpful and friendly. I think the prices are reasonable. I saw some of the same international items at the grocery store for a higher price. There was plenty of parking. read more

It is easy to drive right by this gem. It is small but it sure packs in the products. You can probably find almost whatever you need from any culture. The aisles are very narrow and the store can feel claustrophobic. The owner is very nice and knows just about where anything is, so if you're looking for something in particular you should definitely ask. When moving to souther IL, it can be hard to find products I am used to finding in larger cities, so I am glad I can come here to round out my pantry and fridge. read more

I go here because I need things I can't get everywhere. Although I don't mind coming here for necessities like dals and spices- my only advice is to check expiration dates on everything. All the Gitz premade dosa/idli etc food packets are expired by months, I once got Eno that was expired from a year ago but the guy at checkout gave it to me for free (I ended up using it for cleaning), and I bought some tea that I found was expired once I returned home. I'm certain in a place like this the turnover is low .... but just please check your expiration dates! read more

This is more than a grocery store. It's an awesome place where many diverse people from all cultures meet each other and appreciate our common interests. The guys who run the place are very friendly and always helpful however they can be. The inventory is so diverse that you can find almost anything you expect to and more than that. They have sandalwood powder and many different kinds of incense and personal care items behind the cash registers. There are also cooking utensils from many countries around the world in the back of the store. I buy whole wheat pita bread, split mung dal and green salsa here, and occasionally a package of cookies. Huge bags of rice and dal are also available and the prices are reasonable. Local businesses are welcome to post flyers at the front door. I'm so grateful to have this store here and in such a convenient location. It would be nice to have small packages of fresh betel leaves. If more people would buy these we could have them here. read more

Alright, firstly, if you are Asian this is grocery heaven for you, if you are arab you'll find something here that might remind you of home, if you are someone who wants to experiment with Indian/pakistani/arab/chinese/vietnamese delicacies you are going to overwhelm your selves with possibilities. Its not the cleanest place in the world, but at the same time the products are well maintained and preserved. The dude at the check out seems like he could use a hot shower, and the counter is utterly cluttered! there's usually only 1 guy there and only sometimes knows what you're looking for, so its a hit and trial method, but for someone who knows exactly what they're looking for you might find it easily. It is a little overpriced for the material, and doesn't have Halal meat except sometimes they have chicken! hope this helps :) read more

The store is small, but tightly packed. It seems to have a wide variety of international groceries. Picked up a few items and went to the front check out. Greeted the cashier, no response. Instead of checking out my items, she just let me stand there waiting and watching her sorting the plastic bags. To be polite, I still said thank you after I paid for the groceries, she did respond this time, but with an "en" from her nose! Rudest cashier I ever encountered! Only after I got home I realized that the tofu spaghetti I got from this store smelt really bad because it expired a couple of months ago! About a quarter of the bag of veggie I got was also rotten. Only later I realized that there is a vegetable and fruit store in the same shopping center also sells Asian greens, but with better quality. And a lot of Asian cooking essentials can be found in Walmart. I'd like to support local small business, but not with that kind of customer service and product quality. The cashier probably has that kind of attitude because she thinks they're the only international store in town, people have no other options. I'll never go back again. read more

How amazing is this place, seriously. If you're looking for South American, Asia, and European foods to snack, cook, prepare, or sample, this is so it. We drive 3hrs twice a year to get to this place. Prices are respectable, the employees are considerate and so the other shoppers. If you have questions, the employees and sometimes other shoppers will give you lots of ideas and opinions. A wonderful place to visit. read more

They will not allow service dog in! I came inside with my service dog and immediately was chased down in the Isle and told they don't allow dogs I tried to explain but they or she wasn't having none of it.. The minute I opened the door she called the owner of the business and told him that I had a pet!l My dog had a vest clearly showing that I need him for my day to day activities. If foreigners want to live here and have a business they should learn the laws. I was embarrassed in front of other customers needless to say I will be buying my groceries on line from now on. Or I may just take them to court they can then be embarrassed and pay 1000$ fine and tell the judge why they are better than any other business and don't have to fallow the law. This place is my favorite to shop. They have a great variety of stuff. They have foods from India , China, Malaysia, Thailand, Korea and even some Arabic stuff. This is one of best stores to have in Southern Illinois. I love this place and the people who work here are very helpful and friendly too. Only drawback is its a little bit congested and the isle are too narrow, wide enough for only 1 person. read more

This place has everything! I was able to find all of my needs to cool Indian food. I have definitely become a repeat customer.

While the store isn't huge, they actually had some different things I haven't seen even while living in South Florida. I've visited St Louis as well since moving to Southern Illinois and this store carried some items I was used to finding in Florida that I didn't see there. Thank goodness for the International Grocery store!!! I was spoiled by having a Korean grocer around the corner from me in Chicago and living 20 minutes from Super H Mart. I didn't know how I was going to survive back in Carbondale. I can, for the most part, find all the things I would truly miss. I just wish they would stock more Korean items. Like different pan chan and kimchi. But I can't really complain that much. At least we have this store in Southern IL! read more

This is a really great place. I just love how many different things they pack into this little store. The ONLY downside to this place is that sometimes things can be expensive (completely understandable) and that I have no idea what most of the items are. I wish more things had at least a label in english because I want to try all these new things and still know what I'm eating. This place is super awesome if you are a fan of foreign foods or just wanting a taste of home! I am a big fan of the oriental, and I just started taking a bento for lunch. It is so difficult to find real, authentic Japanese food that you can use to cook with or use to pack a bento, but this store is so helpful! It's small, but I feel like I can find things more easily because of that! They have a very wide variety of different foods, even Umeboshi and Mochi! Although they do not have konpeito, and I urge that they buy some, and some of their stuff is a little overpriced (like their pocky is almost a dollar more than the pocky at walmart...) I am thankful to even have a great store like this around here! All they need is konpeito and fresh fish!~ read more

This place used to be a nice place but don't know suddenly what happened with the owner. He increased prices like 3 dollars in a month. Not only that recently he started selling different things under the name of different brands. For example recently I bought basmati rice from him and when I cooked , it was not basmati rice at al,.. instead of that he mixed some kind of lower quality rice with the traditional basmati. I think its better to stay away from this shop. read more
