Randomly stumbled upon this place as we were searching for breakfast in Santa Monica Pier area. The restaurant looks pretty modern and nice interior. Beware...it gets expensive in the area. We each ordered our own dish, but was able to try each one. - Chilaquiles is what I ordered and I love Mexican food. The dish was delicious. Less sauce than I thought. Very cheesy and filling. - Shashuka - first time trying this. It's like a dip with some toast. Very cheesy. The flavor is kind of like chili. My friend said it's similar to the chilaquiles. The bread was well toasted. -Rib eye steak - meat was tender and juicy. Also comes with eggs, toast, and jam/jelly. Don't forget to check in for a free drip coffee. The food overall was pretty good. Got the chicken katsu and mentaiko pasta and both were honestly flops. The chicken katsu rice was kind of soggy and the curry has nothing in it except for the fried chicken. The pasta was kind of tasteless which was a huge bummer although the spaghetti itself was well cooked. We had a very pleasant brunch at Interstellar. We showed up on Saturday around 10am and put our name down for an outdoor table. We were informed that the wait was about 30 minutes so we walked a few blocks over to the Saturday farmer's market and came back when they texted us that we could be seated. We had the ultimate breakfast burger and the chilaquiles. Both were very impressively sized portions and were fantastic. The burger was super juicy the meat combined with the fried egg made it a multiple-napkin kind of burger. The chilaquiles were nice and crisp and the sauce had a little bit of a kick. $32 for a rice bowl is INSANE, but it's so good... and typical LA. I was vacationing in Santa Monica, so my wallet was already destroyed. My friend wanted to try Interstellar, a fun new breakfast spot next to the pier. Because we arrived close to opening time, we were able to get seated immediately. Can't imagine how busy this place gets. We ordered lattes and food. Ah, the dilemma between actual breakfast food and something more unique. I decided on the Sichuan Chimichurri Prime Rib Bowl, containing Sichuan peppercorn oil infused chimichurri, truffle kombu umami ponzu, garlic stir fried snow peas tendrils, and sesame oil. How can you read that list of ingredients and not want to get it? The flavors were perfect. Everything on the menu sounds amazing. I'd actually love to come back here again. It's pet friendly too, and I had the honor of sitting next to the cutest Goldendoodle puppy. Service is great. There's some food for every hour of the day, from morning to night. Went for the 1st time to have lunch with my daughter. From the moment we arrived we felt so welcomed and taking care off. We started off with the lobster roll which was served on brioche- super delicious! Sorry no picture! I had a cappuccino and my daughter a vanilla late. We both ordered an entree as well, Shakshuka and Katsu Curry . Everything was so tasty, full of flavors. I did not expected this kind of cuisine in a touristy area. Spent a morning in Santa Monica and was genuinely surprised at how good the food is. My friends and I were just looking for a place to eat breakfast and it happened to be right by where we parked. The place is small and has some outdoor seating, much like other restaurants in the area. What makes this place stand out is the wide selection of brunch foods aside from the basic avocado toast -- food selections photographed and captioned. Only complaint might be the price, though unsurprising given the location. $22 for truffle fries is a bit steep, but would overall recommend Interstellar for a good, hearty brunch! Note: There is a bit of construction nearby so can be a little loud, at no fault to the restaurant. Would opt for an indoor table if it's available! This place is damn near perfect. The service is great, coffee is delicious, dog friendly, and food is awesome. Highly highly recommend the breakfast truffle linguini. AMAZING!!!!!!!! I never order creamy pasta generally but it came highly recommended by the waitress who was great btw. I mean, WOW. WOW. Sooooooooo good. It's so rich but not something you get sick of eating. Runny yolk, truffle, creamy linguini, thick chunks of delicious bacon. Ugh. Croissant breakfast sandwich was pretty good too. French toast is overrated (best part was the fruit). It just tasted super bready but not much flavor and kinda dry? Galbi tacos are tasty. Bacon + waffles was spectacular!!! They use almond flour which is great for those looking for a GF option. Or even if you aren't. It was perfectly crispy, bacon was lovely, sweet whipped butter. My mouth is watering. I got it with poached eggs but saw that other people were ordering it with scrambled. I'd go with scrambled. The only drawback of this place in my mind is that both times that I got poached eggs one was perfect but the other was overdone. We got the Super Nachos, the Moroccan Harissa Parpardelle Burrata, and the Truffle Linguini aglio E olio. The food here was so delicious, especially the Truffle Pasta! The menu had a lot of unique options and it took us so long to decide what to order. The only downside was the prices; a bowl of pasta was over $30 (as well as most of the menu)! This restaurant had a pretty casual vibe, so the prices didn't really make sense to me. I heard they increased the prices here by about 40% recently, which was disappointing to hear. OMG, this place is so cute and great! If you are in the Santa Monica area, it is right by the water and the board walk and mall. The only problem you will probably have is finding parking. It seems like a family run small business. We were suprised at the portions! It was pricey but it makes sense because they give a good amount of portions to the point that each of us had to do a take out box!  I had the mahi mahi tacos - SO GOOD. I would order again. My friend ordered a waffle and she said it was fluffy. My friend ordered the bulogi burger and very huge portion. And my other friend ordered the chicken sandwich, and also very big and good! We had truffle fries to share around the table. My friend ordered this orange expresso - pls order it. This was a star gem drink! We got mimosas and Sangria. Nestled just around the corner off Ocean Ave and a few blocks away from the Santa Monica Pier, is this place. I was tempted by Blue Plate Taco a few steps away but I'm glad we stopped here. Also I think Tina would've slit my throat if I had us ingest another Mexican meal on this trip. It was unassuming at first and almost hard to spot. We waited at the host stand outside and were tended to quickly. There are tables outside that provide a view of the beach "area" off in the distance. They have an impressive cocktail and caffeinated beverages section. Matcha is a must whenever it's on the menu so I ordered an iced matcha latte which was standard fare. Tina ordered a mimosa which she describes as "fine, a normal mimosa". Further review of the drink menu now reveals a strawberry mint cocktail with strawberries, mint, lime, and soju and it has been AGES since I've had soju and it's probably for the best that I didn't notice that at the time. The time of our visit was around 2-3pm so I was interested in the brunch section however breakfast, brunch, and dinner are all served all day. I was a little strapped for vegetarian options on the menu which contains really explosive shit like breakfast truffle linguini, truffle grilled cheese and marinara (not convinced that was on the menu I was given at the time because I probably would've ordered that..), katsu burgers, bulgogi burgers, korean galbi tacos, and moroccan harissa pappardelle and burrata. Mic drop. I settled on the $22 avocado toast and I'll put it this way: expectations were high. After talking a big game about how hungry she was, Tina ordered just an order of black truffle fries. Expectations were more than met with this fucking avocado toast. It was INCREDIBLE. Easily one of the best avocado toasts I have ever had. The toast is on a thick slice of bed topped with avocado mash, burrata, arugula, cucumbers, and a citrus honey vinaigrette. NEXT LEVEL. I gave half of it to Tina because it was so gigantic. And because I'm a generous person. The black truffle fries were also probably the best truffle fries I've ever had. The fries are thin and crisp and packing with delicious truffle flavor. They're topped with a hefty portion of parmesan and parsley and absolutely exquisite. This is a really special place and would be dangerous if I lived in the same time zone. read more

We loved our lunch at interstellar! It has a fun menu with a little bit for everyone. We had an Orange + Maple Latte, Sweet and Spicy Katsu Burger, Korean galbi bowl, and Parmesan fries. The Katsu burger was our favorite- incredible flavors, large and served on a croissant! The Galbi bowl was good but had a ton of melted cheese all mixed in, just a little too much for us! I get this order often because I work near by, the fries are delicious however I've been noticing over time the amount of fries in the order is just not adding up to the dollar amount of the food and the even container they put it in. This location is conveniently located across the way from Santa Monica Pier* (very close proximity, can't really see the pier however) There is outdoor seating and indoor seating, you can choose between high top tables/high chairs or regular chair tables. The menu is quite extensive, you can find it online either google, Yelp or their website. Roughly 5 pages to go through. I would highly recommend the drip coffee, the barista here is superb. Not sure what to get for food? Just ask and they can tell you their favorites. Some items are on the spicier side, please check before ordering. They also have space themed merch, near the restroom in the back. This place provides high quality food and great service, it would've been a 5 star however the price is definitely on the pricier side for the same kind of breakfast brunch food you can get elsewhere, almost 1.5-2 the amount. We loved this little spot near the beach! The interior design is a vibe: modern, clean, creative & sophisticated just like the food. Great wine list as well. Service was very friendly, too. We ordered the popcorn chicken as a starter - very delicious, loved the presentation. And for entrees we ordered the black truffle fried rice & the branzino. The fried rice was out of this world. We could not stop talking about how good it was after every bite. Would go back just for that! The branzino was delicious but it did leave something to be desired. Felt like it was missing something but still delicious no less. We will go back for sure to try some of their other creative dishes. Prices were very fair for the quality in LA - not cheap by any means but fair for this expensive city. Have been here twice now and wow, what a great spot! Both times I came within acceptable brunch hours, and was blown away by the food. Located just off Ocean in Santa Monica, it's a great place to grab a bite pre- or post-Third Street shopping. An interesting menu with Korean influence, Interstellar has not disappointed. Every item I've ordered has been full of flavor. Of note has been the shakshuka (of which I would consider myself a connoisseur of sorts), which just explodes in your mouth, especially with that jalapeño sauce drizzled over the top. The lobster roll and smoked salmon toast also loved on my taste buds. Third Street is always a great way to spend your day, so I encourage you to make a res at Interstellar to warm up for a glorious day. Parking is a-plenty in SaMo (here, I usually park in the structure off 2nd and Colorado), so you have no excuses. Check our Resy to make a reservation, or walk-in (like I did). I was in SM to grab brunch with a friend and had heard good things about Interstellar so I wanted to try it out. It was quite busy on a Sat morning but the wait was pretty quick - 25-35 mins. The food was decent but the prices were insane. $20 for just a breakfast burrito and it does not come even with a side. I think for similar price range, I will probably eat elsewhere next time. My friends and I LOVED interstellar and it's officially one of my most favourite brunch places ever. I love that they use the Ginza Nishikawa shokupan and it was a Game Changer in their katsu sando. Above an average Shakshuka (and if you've never tried one before, you should definitely try it now!) The waiter was so nice to us, accommodating, gave us a bunch of suggestions as well. The food was delicious! Made with high quality ingredients and cooked to perfection. We split the Greek salad (LOVE the castelvetrano olives in this salad, more than the traditional kalamata), had a breakfast burrito, and the chicken katsu curry as our mains. The service was very kind and polite and there is a handy call button to summon someone as needed. It is a family-run, local restaurant that we like to support and is one of the most reasonably priced and flavorful meals you can find in downtown Santa Monica. One of the best steak frites I've ever had! (Personal opinion). It was nice and tender and easy to chew! The katsu sandwich would be a solid 6/10. Just a basic katsu sandwich. The ricotta toast was a 7/10. It was a sourdough bread with a nice smooth ricotta spread and blueberry and strawberry jam. The food and service was overall exceptional. Something I appreciated was when our table was too small to fit all our food so someone combined 2 tables together so we can eat comfortably without feeling crammed. read more

Me and my boyfriend found this place by coincidence. We were deciding where to eat in Santa Monica and the reviews looked nice so we thought we'd give it a try and we are so glad we did! Type of dining: we ended up doing takeout but the outdoor seating area is so cute for interstellar! Food: We ordered the truffle pasta, blta panini, and a caramel latte. In our experience, outdoor dining (especially for nicer places) can be a lot nicer than takeout simply because by the time u take the food home it gets cold and isn't that great anymore. We were so pleasantly surprised! Their truffle pasta is LOADED with truffle! If you like truffle this pasta will satisfy your truffle needs! We quickly sauteed it to reheat but it was so amazing (even cold). If it was so good as takeout we can only imagine how amazing it is freshly off the pan! The panini was also amazing! The quality of ingredients is superior and made the overall experience very pleasing! But my favorite part about interstellar is they didn't start making my coffee until we got there to pick up our order. They said that they wanted to make sure the latte was fresh and I appreciated that so much because it really sucks when you order for pick up and the latte gets cold!! Their caramel latte is to die for!! My boyfriend isn't a big coffee drinker (I'm forsure the coffee queen) but even he really liked it! Overall their service and food is amazing! Price: it definitely does run on the pricier side of things but it's for sure worth it! Their portions are great size as well. Yeah it's great. I mean you can tell just by looking at all of the pictures and seeing most of the reactions to Interstellar. While it's always been full every time I've visited throughout the last few years I kind of wonder why it isn't even more booked solid for days given what a delightful experience it is. It's funny to say but I kind of have lowered expectations walking into a place located in the tourist-y area of Santa Monica despite what an amazing location it is so I've always been pleased to have my expectations defied here. After you walk into the space you can tell there is special attention paid to presentation. Every little detail of the space is cute, well-designed, and carefully considered for making you feel delighted. I've had many things on the menu here and I can't think of one that has disappointed in some way. I would say that some meals have been extremely delicious (the Bugolgi Burger is a knock out!) and some have been merely good (the Chicken Katsu Sando shows off well but I've had better) but you really can't go wrong here. I even once had the ribeye (Steak Frites) which came out all big, ostentatious and seemingly inappropriate for such a cute space, and even it was delicious and cooked to perfection. Wow I absolutely loved getting brunch here! They have 4-5 tables set up outside for outdoor dining. I came at 12 for lunch on a Friday and was seated immediately. All of the food was delicious. I'm impressed the small restaurant is able to serve such a diverse menu, and do everything so well. I ordered the shakshuka which really hit the spot. This quaint little restaurant in Santa Monica was a quiet place to dine after a long day. The restaurant interior can only seat about 20 people and there was only one other couple seated, so service was friendly and quick. We started with a mango cocktail. While the drink was a little too sweet for my taste, the Tajin rim helped! We ordered the ganjang gaeren, a soy sauce marinated egg and the lobster roll. The egg was perfectly soft boiled, a perfect little nosh nestled on top rice with Thai chilis. I thought it would be served warm but it was served cold, including the rice. The lobster roll was just ok, a little too dry. Katsu chicken curry with egg and the Branzino Okazuke were our entrees. Boy - the portion on the Katsu is no joke. The Katsu could feed two people, curry rich and flavorful but thought it could use a few vegetables like carrots, onions or potatoes. Enjoyed the pickled red daikon. The Branzino was perfectly cooked with a crispy outer and flakey inside meat. I loved the presentation, with the rice at the bottom and nori covering it - the broth was equally as tasty too. Desert was the pink guava basque cheesecake. It was good but it hardly tasted like guava at all. I felt like there was a little bit of the guava sauce but not enough to warrant the name.
