They also close occasionally so check the website before coming as they post updates. This is the specific website for this location: https://yogananda.org/locations-international-headquarters#Visiting%20Hours. The website is also wrong here but I've contacted Yelp about making the changes. This is the international headquarters of the Self-Realization Fellowship. The organization was started by Paramahansa Yogananda, a Hindu monk and guru, who was very influential in introducing yoga to the West. The SRF is a spiritual organization that doesn't teach Hinduism but focuses on the specific teachings of Yogananda. They have many locations throughout the world and a few in the Los Angeles area. Their Lake Shrine location in the Pacific Palisades is particularly beautiful. This location is much smaller but it is still lovely and peaceful. Yogananda established the headquarters in 1925 and lived and worked here for more than 20 years. The meditation garden is charming with a variety of little enclaves and multiple benches. It's a nice place to come meditate, read, or just get away and think (or not think). The visitor's center and main building are currently closed. I understand that there are some exhibits relating to Yogananda's life here. I don't know when they intend to reopen this area. I encountered a staff member who was very nice. They do have some rules about not sitting on the grass, FYI. There were plenty of benches though. Ample parking along the road once you enter their gated area. LA is a stressful city so having access to serene places like this is so valuable. Thank you to the SRF for granting that access to the public for free.

I went to Kathryn on a strong recommendation and as promised, she changed everything about my body. Especially my relationship to my body, which I was worried was breaking down and never going to heal. After decades of acupuncture, massage and sacral-cranial work, all of which helped temporarily, Kathryn's 10 session Rolfing series has done wonders. And I'm not even finished. She is so educated, patient, gentle, fun, and clearly loves to teach and help people. She also gives helpful advice about walking, sitting, using my muscles in ways that help support my alignment. I recommend her highly, eagerly and passionately.

Now other people are starting to comment on the positive changes in my appearance, too. Rolfing itself isn't always a pleasant experience (my own sensitive areas include my calves, shins, and ankles), but Kathyrn will always do her best to make you as comfortable as possible. She is a wealth of dietary knowledge as well. At our first appointment, she pointed out that a lot of my symptoms indicated I might have a gluten allergy, and after one month of going gluten-free, I actually feel remarkably better (more energetic, less joint pain and overall tenderness) and I've gone for the first month of my adult life without a migraine. Yay! If you want to feel better, don't wait: schedule an appointment now. Your health is worth the money.

It had a very nice clean vibe feel to it. The place is divided up into several rooms, there's a room for pliates reformer, one for some other kind of pilates torture rack, a room for yoga and some other room to expand your consciousness. The place is well lit lots of natural light feels very relaxing. If you don't have grippy toe socks (they're mandatory for pilates reformer) you can buy them at the counter, so I'd imagine if you've never done it before you're gonna have to buy it here. Anyway I Leonie as my teacher... she was very nice and came by to correct me often, because I didn't really know what I was doing so I appreciated that. The other two people in the class were not newbies so they knew what to do, so they needed less guidance. Overall, I don't believe pliates reformer is for me (truly it's not you, it's me). But I liked my lesson, I thought the teacher was great, the studio was great. I would definitely come back and try some other kind of body lengthening or mind expanding exercises.

Samarasa Center is beautifully designed - bright and clean with new equipment and FREE PARKING (seriously unheard of in LA). The complimentary tea bar is also a nice touch. The staff is warm and inviting. The instructors are attentive, up-beat, and very in-tune with your form, injuries, requests etc. I joined mainly for the pilates but like having the option to take yoga classes too with my monthly membership. The monthly membership also includes a guest pass. Speaking from personal experiences I've had at other studios in LA, Samarasa is really something special. I find myself looking forward to class everyday.

This temple was founded in 1912 and moved to the current location in 1940. This is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in the United States. [Parking]: No designated parking for the temple, but Aiso Parking Garage (101 Judge John Aiso St) is located just one block away. [Waiting line]: The long waiting line is for visitors who want to pray inside of the temple. For anyone who want to buy souvenirs, then they can just walk directly into the front courtyard of the temple as there are separate lines to buy souvenirs. [Hatsumode]: Upon entering the temple, visitor can pay $5 donation for Goma-ki (write your wish and your name on the piece of wood and leave it on the table - it will supposedly be burned during a monthly ceremony Goma Fire Ritual at the last Sunday of each month outside of January). Once each person is done praying, then there's a wooden offering box for donation. No pictures are allowed inside of the temple. [Activities]: Other than hatsumode, the temple had Shusho-e (New Years Day) Service [with Mochi Presentation] on January 1st at 10 AM, New Year's Day Goma Service on January 1st at 2 PM, and Taiko Gohei Blessing Service / Goma Service throughout Jan 1st through Jan 3rd. [Classes]: Outside of hatsumode, the temple offers yoga class, Japanese calligraphy class, dharma class, tea with reverend, etc. throughout the year. [Souvenirs]: They sell omamori (Japanese amulets) , ofuda (talismans), ojuzu (Buddhist prayer beads), incense, arrows, etc. Heck they even sell Hello Kitty and Ultraman omamori. [Admission]: Free admission, but consider paying your respects with a donation in the large wooden offering box. [Conclusion]: This is one of few activities to do on the New Year Day and expect a huge crowd visiting for hatsumode. Our party stayed for approximately 45 minutes (including waiting time) and I definitely appreciate the tradition. Certainly worth a visit for anyone who is free on the New Year Day & would like to experience this annual Japanese cultural event.
