A great place to have a drink and relax. There is always a crowd, which seems to be a nice mix of…read morelocals, travelers, and students. We came every night during our four night stay, and it was always a great atmosphere inside and out. The downstairs bar has a great beer selection. If you look behind the bar, they have shelves with all the bottles, labeled by style. We tried a few new barrel aged stouts we had never come across, some of which were solid 10/10 beers. The food puts them over the top. The cheddar burger is a tasty burger, but the fries. Oh these fries. They are so crispy, so salty, and almost pinched in the middle so they have a little curl. They are so delicious, a real treat to end a long day's wanderin'. Bonus points because all the staff we interacted with was lovely every time we visited.

It's a little out of the city center, so the parking's a bit better, but only a bit. We both ordered the BrewDog Punk IPA, a standard West Coast IPA, which was decent. I even ordered another. I got the Salmon LT sandwich, a club with salmon as opposed to bacon. Toasted, which is common in this region of Italy. Tasty, although I might have enjoyed it with a little less cream cheese. My buddy ordered the hamburger with guacamole. The burger bordered on raw, but je enjoyed it. Staff was friendly and helpful, letting us sample some of the beers before we ordered. It's a good-sized place with tons of tables, inside and out. We arrived about 6:30, and the place was mostly empty. But it filled quickly after 7 with many folks stopping for a beer and snack after work.

I got to Parma around noon and while walking around stumbled onto this beautiful masterpiece of a…read morerestaurant. If you come to Parma you have to have prosciutto and you have to have Parmesan and that is exactly what I did. I ordered a warm panini with a huge amount of prosciutto and melted Parmesan. It was so simple yet so perfect. I accompanied it with a excellent glass of glass of the local sweet 'Malvasia Dolce. This was probably one of the best lunches I had in my entire Italy trip and also one of the cheapest. I finished it off with a tiramisu and an espresso. My favourite part of not only the restaurant but Parma is the lack of tourists. I was the only none Italian in the restaurant and there were practically no tourists in the city. A very welcome change from more touristic areas like Venice and Florence.

Hours here are also very sporadic so best to call ahead (call Umberto) to see if they are open. IIRC, we arrived there on a weekday (Wednesday or Thursday) and it was open from 8pm or so until whenever you're ready to go home. Goblin Pub is very much the traditional beer dive with a very homely feel and small but impressive tap list. There are about six rotating Italian micros on tap with 6+ static macros like some English bitters, Guinness, and run-of-the-mill stuff. The beer cellar is quite impressive with everything from 1970's Chimay to one-off Cantillon lambics. We had a fabulous time with Umberto and really fell in love with the place. Food here was prepared by Umberto especially for us and the meal was one of the best I've had in a long time. Five courses, all prepared with beer as an ingredient in some way: antipasti, grapefruit/bell pepper salad, pot roasted short ribs, cheese platters, wild dessert. Really was an amazing experience.
