Soooo today is was first time visiting Iron Age. I am a KPOT girly in all forms. However, I wanted to try Iron Age because everyone glows about their food. Sadly to say I wasn't all that impressed. I went around 11:30 am no wait! Great! However, it took the waiter 10 min to come and take my order and there were only 2 other tables occupied at the time. The waiter finally came over and didn't ask if I've been there before. He never explained the sauces or how this dining experience worked. I am used to an iPad to order from. Did I mention I was a KPOT girly lol. So once I was able to figure out how it was suppose to flow the dining experience went smoothly. I orders the bulogi pork and chicken with rice and a salad. The meat was very delicious and tender. The rice and the salad were good sides. I did not enjoy the sauces as much. And I still don't know what the sauces were. Place gets really crowded and no reservations are taken, but waitlist moves quickly. Music is loud, vibe is fun. The menu format is all you can eat, no special tiers. They offer several types of chicken, different pork and beef cuts, various marinades. They also have vegetable sides (grillable veggies, kimchi, japchae, rice cake, cheese corn, potato salad, steamed egg and green salad. Vegetarians can order all the vegetable sides and grill able veggies for $14.50 instead of the complete $35 AYCE meat menu. Table also came with pickled radish dishes and a plate of 4 sauces (sesame oil with salt, sweet soy, spicy and creamy orange). Ordered veggies to grill first. Portion cane with onions, peppers, and squash. Squash slices were thin, bell pepper chunks were wide. For meat, had the soy steak, regular bulgogi, spicy chicken thigh and Hawaiian bulgogi. The chicken was one big thigh piece. Our server cut it up into pieces for us, did the same with the steak (and asked how we like the latter). Hawaiian bulgogi was sweeter and marinated with an additional pineapple chunks for a different flavor. Both types were good. Hard to pick a favorite meat (maybe the Hawaiian bulgogi). Protein Paradise! Iron Age was fantastic. For about $28-$29, it's basically an all-you-can-eat meat festival for an hour and a half. They bring out everything you ask for--steaks, Korean-cut meats, all the good stuff--and keep it coming. The ambiance is dark and cool, and yes, it can get a little smoky, but the fans do a solid job. They even change out the grill every other round, so you're not dealing with leftovers from your last dish. Nice touch. This spot has never let me down. Good meat quality and selection. This location can have longer than usual wait times. They do a good job organizing it. If you are unfamiliar with Korean BBQ, the server brings you out raw meat and you cook it on the grill in front of you. Iron Age has a variety of meat options including pork belly (my personal favorite), varieties of beef (steak, bulgogi), chicken, shrimp and squid. They also have side dishes (banchan) that you can order such as japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), kimchi, salad, rice cakes, pickled radishes, steamed egg etc. Our server was very attentive and offered to help us cook the meat if we needed. He also was very timely with changing our grill without having to be asked. The restaurant plays K-pop and Korean rap music so it's a little loud (which I don't mind). Visited on a late weekday afternoon for a friend's birthday lunch. The place is dark and smoky. The service was friendly but extremely slow. The portion size was very small and coupled that with the time limit, it made for a very lousy experience. We would frequently run out of something to eat but the server nowhere to be found. The food quality didn't make up for the lousy experience. The taste of meat with and without the marinades were not the best. Either too sweet, too salty, or tasting like something is missing. Many of the meat was tough and not well seasoned or just plain old bad. It didn't help that most everything was burnt due to negligence. The server hardly ever came by to flip the meat or cut it up and that doesn't help. I ended up doing most of the job. And the server would forget items asked for and the meat would get not only burnt but start smoking. I also didn't care for how salty the salad was or the rubbery and watery egg. The whole experience was underwhelming. Once the check arrived after the server declared our time is up and we had hardly had anything to even eat, we were surprised by the bill. The tip pre-printed on the receipt was grossly more than the actual percentage amount that should have been for the bill. I am glad I calculated it on my own as I always do.
