Based on my experience they got me a good deal. They finagled some financing for me with their friend at the bank. The car had a minor issue but they repaired it out of courtesy, no contractual obligation. The car has been a stallion for the past 3 years with routine upkeep, most of which I do myself. Update review. My father in law purchased a car from island auto buyers about a month ago. The car is fine but the follow up by their manager Jim C was non existent. He was supposed to get my father in law another set of keys and a part for the mirror that was missing. After the sale, island auto buyers seemed to have fallen off the face of the earth. Too bad I can't give them a 0. I work for a bank, and this place refuses to give back the deposit that my customer gave them for a car they never delivered. He has been going back and forth with the dealership for over a month; they state they put through the refund, but he never received it. I even called the dealership themselves, and they hung up on me. I finally got through to the manager, who was extremely rude but stated that he refunded the money today. Basically a bait and switch place. Lists cars for low price but the actual description has "with $2k down payment". Then charge $700 for "inspection and repairs" or whatever like you're supposed to do that as a dealer before selling a car which is BS cuz my car had a broken radio and they didn't know about it till I test drove. Rob makes promises and don't fulfill them. I put in a DEPOSIT that when I asked for it to be returned, he's all like "what deposit" . My car was missing a fender liner and Rob said he'd ship one to me. When I inquired about it a few days later he's all like "I'll have to ask my boss". Never heard from him again They didn't do the title reassignment right so my state DMV had to go through hoops just to register my car. At least the car is mechanically all good... Cliché used car sales lot. Claimed online a car was $7999. When I pushed they mentioned their "forgotten" $499 fee. Then later they mentioned that $7999 means $9999 because way at the bottom of their online ad, despite it saying $7999 in the title of the ad, there was an additional amount upfront of $2000 after which it was $7999. I explain that means $9999 and that $7999 means $7999. Not even a convincing scam. Just a sloppy one. I then hung up. It is my recommendation not to bother. May 29, 2021 I walked in to take a look at one of the trucks I saw online. Guy I dealt with. Broad short guy. pissy attitude. We went out to the pick up truck and saw and commented that the tire was flat. I went around to see if the other tire or any other tire was flat and the guy dangles the keys and says "do you want the keys to see the truck?" I Said sure. Took the keys. Went to see the truck and commented to myself flat tire. Guy goes into a rage. Red faced. Loud. Said yelling "you want us to just throw out the truck?" No I replied. Guy utters "you commented on the flat tire TWICE!" I simply said I'm done. Not dealing with this and gave him keys. I Said what's your problem man. His response, do you want us to just throw the truck away said in anger and yelling still beet red. Looking like he's ready to fight. I just laugh it off and move on. I've been to a lot of dealerships over the years buying vehicles with friends, family etc, and for people. I have worked in customer service in a corporate setting as well as a family setting. If anyone on your lot as a customer feels like a salesman, an owner or even the detail guy is going to pick a fight and throw hands with them they need to be fired immediately! It's Not cute, it's not acceptable in anyway shape or form. Man is how he is. This is how he acts in his public life and in his private. This is your guy? I will never go here again obviously I will spread the word as much as I can about this encounter until either the sales trickle in or that guy is sent packing. Here's the funny thing. This is the second time that I've come in and had at least a lukewarm experience. I gave them one star because the place was clean. I bought a 2012 Rogue from them and about a month or two after I bought the car I brought it to good year for a problem with a tire and they said I needed a ton of work then that night I was unable to shut the car off due to an ignition issue. I brought it back and it was fixed but the problem is back again. I have owned several cars and have never had an ignition problem. I find it amazing how they won't fix this again considering it's a defect in the car they sold me. They are rude and very inconsiderate. I had the displeasure of going to this dealership for a second car. I currently own a model year QX60 and need an additional car to commute from the LIRR train station and home. I was looking towards purchasing a 2007 Maxima at their dealership. I went to their dealership yesterday evening. As I entered there was two salesman in the showroom. One was working with a client and another was texting on his phone. After 5 minutes standing in the showroom the salesman texting says, "can I help you". I told him that I was interested in the 2007 Maxima. He asks me if I can wait to see it, as he has to pick up his daughter at her friends house. I found this to be extremely unprofessional. You would think that he was doing me a favor in showing me the vehicle. I then sent a message via Facebook and advised them of my experience. I received a message back apologizing and asking me to come in the following day, which is today. I arrived at the dealership at 3:30PM and asked for John who I spoke with over Facebook. He greets me as I walk in and gets the keys to the 2007 Maxima. Once we are outside he turns on the car and opens the hood. I immediately notice that the engine bay is extremely dirty and does not look like it has been serviced or even in sale condition. So I ask John if they have put it through their service department and he assured me that it will be put through service prior to a sale. This is extremely uncommon in my opinion and experience in purchasing vehicles. So he then tells me that he was going into the showroom and I should meet him there. Again this type of behavior is extremely disappointing. So once I am done viewing the car I go into the showroom and sit down with John. At this point I tell John that at the dealership the car is stickered at $6995, but on the internet it's listed at $3,995. So he tells me he will honor the internet price but then goes through all of these inflation charges for the vehicle that add up to an additional $3,500. I ask John, why would I pay all these charges when typically you are responsible for tax, title and tags. John then tells me, "we buy these cars wholesale so we charge you for picking up the car etc." Another asinine exclusive from this dealership. The last straw for me was when I asked to test drive the vehicle and was told, "if your serious then we will need you to put down $100-$250" when I told John that I have never payed to test drive a vehicle in the past. He tells me, "that's how we know a person is serious and if you don't like the car we can put the money towards another vehicle" Which tells me if I put money down I would never get it back. My review is based on my experience buying a car at IAB. First, I found IAB by searching online for a specific car I wanted and they had it in stock. I have read all of the negative reviews of people bashing IAB and its staff. I don't think it's all valid based on my research and buying experience at IAB. I learned that a previous manager created a lot of problems with the public and I was told that he has since been fired for his unsavory practices. Second, Are the salesmen a little rough around the edges? Yeah probably to some, but to me, these are knowledgable guys who know and understand the car business. They buy and sell used cars, that's what they do, they are not here to hold your hand! It is up to you to come in prepared to buy. Have all your research complete before you come in and negotiate a price. I really enjoyed working with Rich and Joe, two smart car guys who have been in this business for a long time. Third, I'm pretty savvy as a buyer in general and I understand that buying or selling a used car is a bit of a chess game, it's not for the weak or faint of heart! This dealership buys used cars from other dealerships and from the public, no emotion. I'm sure they know about as much as you know about the history of the car with CarFax and Auto Check. It is up to the buyer to perform his or her due diligence. My best advice is if you know the car you want and IAB has it, then research what comparable cars in the area are selling for, and you will get a great deal here. If you want to go to a used car lot and expect to get that warm and fuzzy white glove service, then this isn't the place for you. read more

My mother and i went to look at a vehicle she loved for a long time now. On Monday veterans day. Was told we would drive home with it that day. After we arrived later monday i overheard on of the men say its not done with the drive cycle that they have to clear some codes. So that was suspicious. So the next day i took my boyfriend who is a mechanic for many years. He hooked up his diagnostics to the car. The result was it needed a new cam sensor and he said a battery being they had to jump the car for us to test drive it. Also it had a creaking sound when turning the wheel which he all pointed out to jimmy. Now when my mom was signing the paperwork he said to our face it passed inspection and everything was fine. So lied so us. He told my boyfriend and i all would he taken care of. So wednesday comes and we still dont have the car. When the gentleman finally said it was ready. My boyfriend then took his diagnostics machine and the cam sensor was never changed he even looked under the hood. Nothing was done for her like they said NOTHING. Plus the clips to hold on the bumper were missing yes they claimed they would take care of that too. They are not men of their word i wish i did some more info on this dealership beforehand. After a pretty heated argument by my boyfriend and the gentleman nothing was accomplished. So now we have to spend more time and money fixing the things they said they would take care of no problem yet did not. I was very disappointed. This dealership really needs to be looked into. My mom went to this dealership to purchase a car for my daughter. She wanted the X5 2004 with 85k miles on it. I went there to review the car and to talk with the dealer. Mike was my salesman and he was a true snake. He swore that he would have the deal sealed and done by that Monday (it was Saturday). He said "but you MUST leave the deposit in cash"! Well that should have been a red flag but I agreed. So I left $100 in cash. Monday passes, Tuesday, Wednesday, and then Thursday. So I called my mother and asked her did she hear anything she said no. So I call mike again and ask what happened. He said oh I'm working on it. So I gave him a few more days. Not a word! So I call Mike back the FOLLOWING Saturday and said please send me my refund. He said yea ok then hung up. In the mean time I went to a local dealer and I purchased a Mercedes and gave my daughter my old car. I almost forgot about my deposit. So I call Mike AGAIN he says "oh you can only get a refund once you return the yellow slip"! I said you never said that and he said well it's policy. So I bring the yellow slip that Wednesday (now 3weeks after my original visit). According to the paper work my refund should have gone out the next day Thursday. No refund. Then Jim (so called finance manager) sends me a message. He says we have an X3 for your daughter 2006 84k miles. I say ok is it the same down payment of $1,500. No response. Then when I asked Jim for a refund he said oh I have a deal for you. Welp to date I still don't have my refund and I'm taking them to small claims court. I'm not only seeking my refund but an additional $500 for the back and forth they sent me through. I urge anyone who has any issues with them to do the same and, report them to the better business bureau. If enough of us complain we can get a class action lawsuit going. They were your typical car salesman staff full of guys who are pushy on selling cars. The buying process with them was wonderful. The problem is it took them over 2 months to register my car. They kept dragging their feet every time I called to get it taken care. I was in an accident & the car ended up being totaled by the insurance co. They only responded to me screaming about the hunk of junk that was totaled & not registered or titled to me to get their ass in gear. Within the month of purchasing the car I took the car back in total 5 times to get the piece fixed that was supposed to be done before driving off the lot. Every time they made me go to a machanic of theirs they glued the bumper instead of replacing the clip. When I called the dealership asking why glue is being put on my car and not being clipped they told me to take it home they'll call their other mechanic to fix it. At this point, I finally mentioned the NYS Lemon Law - they claimed the piece was in they'd take the glue off and it'll be fixed. Another 2 days no car and when I finally did pick up my car - two more bumper clips we're missing. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE! If you do make sure you use your own mechanic to check the car and find out everything possible about the car and not what they/or their machanic tell you. I've never dealt with anything like this. Bought a beautiful Cadillac Escalade about 2 months ago. Had to deal with unnecessary headaches to get a faulty headlamp replaced a few days after getting the truck...3 weeks of back and forth, time lost and always having to keep on top of Jim, just to get a headlamp, that was probably purchased at a junkyard and the clip that holds the light in place was busted so it's still not sitting properly.. and to constantly be told that a headlamp is not covered when that's a safety feature and a necessity to drive the vehicle and it happened a few days after I get the vehicle when I was told that there was a problem with the right headlamp by the salesman after I had purchased it... after the comments Jim the manager left of "Good Deeds" unnoticed I felt I should explain what took place and the reason for me being annoyed, but it is what it is read more

I bought a car from Island Auto Buyers six months ago. (I wanted to hold off on reviewing them until I paid off the auto loan I took out.) I guess the biggest pro is that the car hasn't broken down on me yet. That being said, when my friends ask me if I know any good used car dealerships, I tell them I don't know any, but I know one that they shouldn't buy from - Island Auto Buyers. I remember when the dealer sat me down to talk pricing, he told me he was going to write down an all-inclusive price. He explained that he was going to take care of the repair costs - give the car new brakes and change the oil; he would also pay for the DMV fees to change the plates, etc. He wrote down a number which was around $500 lower than the sticker price. I agreed. Later, as we sat down to sign the paperwork, it was mentioned that Chase charges a financing few which I would have to pay for. That financing fee I believe was a little more than $200, like $230. That's all the additional fees I agreed to pay to. When I checked how much my loan is for (after all the paperwork had been signed), however, the price, between what I paid upfront and the loan I took out, came to only $100 cheaper than the sticker price. There are two things that really stick out to me regarding the day I came to pick up my car. The first thing is that the guy who sold me the car told me that he was wrong, the brakes didn't need to be replaced after all. (Fair enough, six months in and I haven't had a problem with them.) that the salesman then told me that his mechanic replaced the oil and gave the car a passing inspection. The second thing is that the dealership gave me the car with essentially zero gas left. I had to fill it up at the station down the street to avoid getting stuck on the side of the road. That just left a bad taste in my mouth. Exactly one month after I bought the car, my check engine light came on. I called up Island Auto Buyers to ask them if there's anything they could do. (They didn't pick up so I left a message.) They never called back. When I went to my mechanic, he told me the oil hadn't been changed in a while and that's what made the engine light come on. I won't say definitely do not buy from this dealership, just know that they aren't standup, honest salesmen. You're going to want to get things in writing and when you have it in writing, take pictures if you're not leaving the dealership with that piece of paper. read more

Horrible. NO STARS at all, but had to give one to post this review. They are great for taking your money but forget it if you have an issue. When we bought the car they promised to fix the problems with it. We got home and realized the problem wasn't fixed and the car shouldn't have even passed the New York State Inspection so we brought it back to be fixed. They said they fixed it, so we picked it up again. It still wasn't fixed, so we brought it back again. This time they held on to it for days without calling us. We happened to pass the dealership and saw our car sitting out front. We called and were told they couldn't fix it and we were going to have to just pick it up. When we went to pick it they told us we had to pay to have it fixed the right way (even though we were promised it would be fixed BEFORE we agreed to buy it and we had a warranty).
